What Is Mylo Insurance?

How Mylo shops small-business insurance, what it offers, when fees can apply, and which policy details still require a quote.

Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 1,2

You can begin through Mylo’s website or speak with an advisor. The broker and the insurance company have different jobs: Mylo helps arrange the policy, while the insurer named in the policy takes on the covered risk. 1 2

Pros And Cons

Pros

  • A choice between digital and advisor-assisted shopping. Mylo describes the same recommendation-led starting point online and by phone. That can help a buyer who wants to begin independently without giving up access to a licensed advisor when the application or policy needs discussion. 1
  • A multi-carrier commercial panel. Mylo says it works with more than 40 commercial carrier partners and names several examples. Comparing available responses can be useful, provided the buyer also asks which markets were actually approached and which insurer appears on the proposed policy. 1 4
  • Standard and specialist needs can start in one place. The current catalogue includes everyday small-business policies as well as medical malpractice, surety bonds and employee benefits for groups of 2–99. That breadth can reduce the number of starting points a growing business must find, although each product keeps its own eligibility and terms. 9 11 14
  • The compensation explanation identifies both commissions and possible buyer fees. Mylo says it usually earns a carrier commission and discloses the narrower circumstance in which it may charge the customer because it handles billing. That gives a buyer a concrete fee question to resolve before purchase. 2

Cons

  • Online shopping does not guarantee an online purchase. Mylo says an agent finalizes the policy in most cases; fully online purchasing depends on the coverage and carrier. A buyer with an urgent deadline should not assume the first digital recommendation is bindable. 1 3
  • The insurer and policy wording remain quote-specific. The public carrier names do not establish who will issue a particular policy, and the reviewed product pages do not publish a complete current form library. Buyers need the proposed insurer, forms, endorsements, exclusions and state variations before deciding. 1 4 3
  • A minority of transactions can carry a Mylo fee. Mylo says fewer than 5% involve a customer fee when it handles billing, but the public disclosure does not state the amount. Ask for the fee, premium, taxes and any financing or installment charges as separate figures. 2
  • The public service path varies by carrier. Mylo’s directory sends customers to different insurer support and claims channels and provides its own fallback when a carrier is missing. Confirm who handles certificates, changes, renewals and claim notice for the specific policy instead of expecting one universal portal. 4

How It Works

Starting The Application

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 1,3

Mylo’s public small-business insurance starting point

The image shows the public marketing page, not a quote result or an account we created. A recommendation is still not a policy: Mylo’s terms say the applicant’s answers and the policy wording form the basis of the insurance contract if a policy is issued. 3

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 3

The Broker, The Insurer And The Owner

Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 1,3,18,19

Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 1,4,3

Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 2,16,17

Group 1001’s investment is a corporate relationship, not proof that a Group 1001 insurance company will issue a Mylo-arranged policy. Check the legal insurer on each proposal separately. 16 17

Partner Experiences

Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 15,16

This distinction matters when the Mylo workflow appears inside another company’s website: the visible partner brand alone does not tell you who is acting as producer or insurer. 15

Coverage And Availability

The Current Catalogue

Mylo’s current commercial catalogue lists business owner’s policies, commercial auto, general liability, cyber, medical malpractice, professional liability, surety bonds, commercial umbrella and workers’ compensation. 1,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13

These are separately marketed starting points, not protections bundled into every policy. Mylo presents commercial property inside a BOP and hired and non-owned auto as a possible commercial-auto component. 1 6

Mylo describes a business owner’s policy as combining general liability, commercial property and business-interruption coverage. The actual causes of loss, property, locations, limits and interruption period depend on the offered policy. 1,5

Mylo’s commercial-auto page describes bodily-injury and property-damage liability, with collision, comprehensive and non-owned-auto coverage as possible components depending on the business and vehicles. 6

Medical Practices And Employee Benefits

For medical professionals, Mylo markets claims-made and occurrence malpractice policies and says tail coverage can extend reporting under a claims-made policy. Its page treats cyber liability as separate coverage to add rather than a protection supplied by malpractice insurance alone. 9

Claims-made coverage generally makes the reporting date and prior-acts terms important; occurrence coverage uses a different trigger. Obtain the proposed form and any tail option rather than relying on the product-page summary. 9

Mylo markets small-group benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, accident and critical-illness options. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and help from a licensed benefits advisor. 14

Benefits are not one undifferentiated policy. Compare the medical network, employer and employee contributions, enrollment rules, renewal terms and the separate life, disability or voluntary-benefit contracts offered to the group. 14

States, Insurers And Forms

Mylo says it has agents licensed in all 50 states. Current Massachusetts regulator lists independently show Mylo, LLC under NPN 18590034 for property-and-casualty and surplus-lines authority in that state, but the reviewed sources do not establish every product’s availability in every state. 1,19,20

Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 1,4

The reviewed public product pages do not provide current specimen policies, endorsements or a complete schedule of limits, deductibles, exclusions and state variations. Those terms must be checked in the actual quote and policy forms. 1,9,3

Service And Compensation

Policy And Claims Contacts

Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts and directs customers to the insurer for many service needs. If a carrier is not listed, the page gives a Mylo Service Professional number; it does not promise that Mylo decides or pays claims. 4

Keep the insurer’s reporting instructions with the policy. A broker or service professional can help route a notice, but only the policy and insurer determine whether a loss is covered and what deadlines apply. 4

The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 1,4,14

For group benefits, Mylo separately describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and licensed-advisor support. Confirm which of those tools and services are included in the offered plan and who handles ongoing eligibility changes. 14

Commissions And Fees

Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 2

The percentages describe how often Mylo says a customer fee occurs; they do not state the commission or fee on your placement. Request a written, itemized compensation and cost explanation before authorizing payment. 2

What To Confirm In A Quote

  • Who performs each legal role? Confirm the licensed producer, the issuing insurer for every policy or layer, and whether a partner-branded journey changes either identity. Verify the producer’s authority in your state. 1 15 19
  • Which markets actually considered the business? Ask which insurers received the submission, which responded, and why the presented quote was selected from the available panel. A carrier logo or service-directory entry is not an account-specific offer. 1 4
  • What does the proposed policy cover? Review forms and endorsements, limits, deductibles or retentions, exclusions, defense costs, covered locations and state amendments. For a BOP, identify the property and interruption terms; for medical malpractice, check the trigger, prior-acts date and tail option. 1 9
  • What is the full cost? Separate premium, taxes, Mylo fees and any installment or financing charges. Ask Mylo to identify its commission and explain whether it or the insurer will handle billing. 2
  • How will service work after purchase? Get the exact routes and response expectations for certificates, policy changes, billing, renewal, cancellation and claims. Confirm which notices must go directly to the insurer and keep proof of timely delivery. 4 3
