Key Differences Between Founder Shield and Mylo
Clinical Practice and the Business Platform
a medical practice adding a digital service and outside investors. Founder Shield markets virtual-care and telehealth coverage alongside directors and officers (D&O), cyber and professional liability. Mylo markets medical malpractice and treats cyber as separate coverage to consider. Both therefore have relevant starting points, but neither label answers which entity, practitioners or technology activities a particular policy insures. 11 37
Send both brokers a description of the practice’s clinical work, digital services and corporate structure. Ask for a map separating clinical negligence, technology or professional-service allegations, data incidents and investor claims. Founder Shield’s D&O guidance supplies a specific shareholder-exclusion question; Mylo’s malpractice page supplies a specific claims-made-versus-occurrence question. These are different coverage decisions within one business, not substitute names for the same policy. 13 11 37
If the practice changes malpractice insurers, Mylo’s discussion of tail coverage provides a useful prompt: request the old and new trigger, prior-acts treatment and any extended reporting option. Tail coverage concerns reporting under a claims-made arrangement; it should not be assumed included in a new policy. Ask Founder Shield to address the same continuity question if its program would replace that coverage. 37 12
Benefits as a Separate Administrative Workstream
Mylo describes online or phone enrollment, an HR portal and licensed benefits-advisor support for businesses with 2–99 employees. Founder Shield also markets health and benefits within its broader catalogue. Do not assume that a growth-focused commercial broker excludes benefits, or that Mylo’s small-business positioning means only basic liability shopping. 42 11
For the practice’s new hires, confirm plan eligibility within that employee range and the enrollment responsibilities, then compare plan networks, contributions and how additions or departures are processed. Confirm whether the benefits and commercial teams share one contact or separate agreements. Mylo’s documented HR portal is useful to evaluate for benefits; it does not establish one universal service workflow for every commercial carrier. 42 32 11
Multi-Carrier Quotes and Insurer Identity
Founder Shield describes choosing insurer markets for industry fit and capacity to support growth. Mylo describes coverage recommendations and comparing available carrier quotes, with an agent finalizing most purchases. The relevant deliverable is a comparison of forms and unresolved conditions across the actual offers. Neither a network total nor starting online establishes how many insurers will quote this particular combination of risks. 10 29
Both firms have corporate group relationships, but the group owner is not automatically the policy insurer. Founder Shield operates within Baldwin; Mylo identifies Group 1001 as its backer. Obtain the producer and issuing insurer for each commercial and benefits placement. Ownership should not be used to assign one insurer across the whole account. 3 2 30 32
Program Cost and Ongoing Work
Mylo says guided shopping is free and 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a purchase fee. It generally earns carrier commissions, with a billing-related fee in fewer than 5% of transactions. Founder Shield permits commissions, fees and other compensation and describes separate financing options. Request the same coverage assumptions and policy period, then itemize brokerage charges, taxes and payment costs. Confirm whether the proposed placement falls within Mylo’s billing-fee exception and obtain the amount. 30 2 22
After purchase, Founder Shield describes coordinating operational changes and providing claims advocacy. Mylo publishes carrier-specific service and claims contacts with a service-professional fallback. For a practice with several policies, ask who maintains the contact list and reviews changes across the program. The directory approach and broker advocacy describe different published service arrangements; they do not establish that one insurer will resolve a claim more favorably. 19 21 32
What to Confirm in Quotes
- A coverage map by entity and activity: Separate malpractice, digital services, cyber and investor requirements, and identify any need outside the offered package. 37 11
- A malpractice continuity comparison: Request policy triggers, prior-acts terms and the cost and duration of any reporting extension. 37 12
- A benefits service schedule: Name the enrollment and eligibility contacts, confirm portal access and specify the separate benefits agreement. 42 11
- An insurer and billing directory: Record the issuer, claims route, billing party and all buyer-paid charges for each policy, including any premium financing. 32 30 22
Service Comparison
Founder Shield vs Mylo: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Founder Shield | Mylo |
|---|---|---|
| Application process | The Get a Quote link opens a portal with Create Account and Sign In options. Registration offers Google, Microsoft, or an email address and password. 7,8 Founder Shield advertises an application that takes under 15 minutes. That is an application-time claim, not a guaranteed time to receive insurer terms or put coverage in force. 6 To buy coverage, Founder Shield’s FAQ says you approve a proposal, select a payment method and choose the desired start date. Its team then follows up on documents needing electronic signatures and handles the insurer’s paperwork. 9 | A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 29,31 Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 31 |
| Access to insurers | Founder Shield advertises access to more than 200 carriers. Its placement FAQ says it selects markets first by their willingness to insure the industry and risk, then considers growth capacity, service and claims handling. The network size does not establish how many insurers will quote your account. 6,10 The placement FAQ says Founder Shield works exclusively with AM Best A-rated carriers. This is the broker’s stated selection standard; the reviewed sources do not independently establish the current rating of every insurer it uses. 10 Founder Shield identifies itself as the distributor of the AI product and names Testudo as its underwriter. Testudo describes Lloyd’s-backed capacity and says its US entity places insurance without bearing the risk. The insurer or syndicates responsible for a particular quote still need to be identified. 14,16,17 | Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 29,32 Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 29,32,31 |
| Servicing and renewals | Founder Shield’s certificate FAQ directs customers to email the team. For a request tied to a contract, it asks for the other party’s legal name and address, required wording, and the insurance requirements from the contract so the team can assess endorsement needs. 18 Founder Shield asks clients to report changes such as a new product, a different business model, a new office or entry into another territory. Its team says it will evaluate those changes and adjust coverage. 19 Founder Shield describes a platform for applications and renewals, with ongoing advisor support. Its renewal guide suggests starting 60–90 days before expiration and preparing updated business information and claims history. That is planning guidance, not a promised renewal-service deadline. 1,20 Founder Shield’s terms direct cancellation requests to client support and warn that some insurers retain a minimum earned premium—a portion you cannot recover by cancelling early. Check the proposal’s cancellation terms. 2 | The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 29,32,42 |
| Fees and compensation | Founder Shield’s pricing FAQ says quotes generally cover one year, unless stated otherwise, and include the fees and charges for that policy period. It describes full payment, carrier installments and financing through premium-finance companies, depending on the policy and payment arrangement. 22 Founder Shield discloses compensation through commissions, fees or interest and invites questions about the amount and nature of that compensation. Its terms say customer charges will be disclosed in advance. 2 The Baldwin Group’s January 2026 disclosure also describes client fees, commissions tied to volume or profitability, compensation for affiliated placement services, and referral fees from providers such as premium-finance companies. These are possible group arrangements, not a finding that each applies to your Founder Shield policy. 23 | Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 30 |
| Claims assistance | Founder Shield describes claims advocacy that includes reporting guidance, help with disputes and policy review when defense counsel is needed. Its claims page says you can report through the portal at any time or directly to the insurer using the notice details in the policy. 21 Founder Shield says its app offers claim updates, progress tracking and requests for information from the insurer. The insurer’s coverage decision remains separate from the broker’s assistance. 21,2 | Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts and directs customers to the insurer for many service needs. If a carrier is not listed, the page gives a Mylo Service Professional number; it does not promise that Mylo decides or pays claims. 32 |
