Coterie Insurance vs Mylo

How Coterie’s agent-led small-business programs and Mylo’s multi-carrier brokerage differ when coordinating business coverage and employee benefits.

Introduction

Coterie Insurance supplies agents with small-business liability and property programs. Mylo is an insurance broker that compares available commercial options and separately offers small-group employee benefits. A small employer adding staff can keep a focused business-insurance program and add other placements, or coordinate more of the shopping through Mylo’s advisors. 6 2 24 37

Key Differences Between Coterie Insurance and Mylo

Workers’ Compensation and Employee Benefits

A small design firm with office insurance that is now hiring its first team still needs eligible property and liability coverage. Coterie’s BOP can address those needs, but Coterie says it does not write workers’ compensation. Mylo markets workers’ compensation and, separately, employee health and other benefits. These are distinct purchases: the employee-benefits offering should not be mistaken for the workplace-injury policy, or vice versa. 4 11 36 37

Mylo’s benefits page describes licensed-advisor help, enrollment and an HR portal for groups with 2–99 employees. That gives the employer a concrete service to assess beyond buying a policy. Ask about eligible employees, plan networks, employer contributions and who handles later enrollment changes. Do not assume the commercial insurance account uses the same portal or service team. 37

The design firm may still retain Coterie for its existing coverage. Its current agent may also arrange the additional employee policies elsewhere; Coterie’s narrow catalogue is a program boundary, not a limit on everything that agent can do. Ask both intermediaries for the complete proposal and division of duties before moving existing policies solely to gain another shopping starting point. 6 24

Program Quotes, Market Responses and Professional Liability

Coterie describes its own small-business program workflow and publishes BOP and professional-liability guides. Mylo says it recommends coverages and compares available insurer quotes. The latter can provide choices across insurers, but a public panel count does not tell the buyer which insurers considered the design firm or returned comparable terms. Request a list of responses and an explanation of the proposed forms. 13 14 24

For a design firm’s professional work, compare the insured-services wording and protection for earlier work before switching. Coterie’s miscellaneous professional liability guide describes claims-made coverage, where reporting provisions and the retroactive date matter. Mylo’s professional-liability product description does not identify one standard insurer form for every buyer. Ask for the actual replacement terms; a shared professional-liability label cannot establish continuity. 14 33 26

Application Paths and Issuing Insurers

Coterie’s agent verifies business details and customizes coverage in the program dashboard. Mylo lets buyers begin online or by phone, but says an agent finalizes most policies; online completion depends on the product and carrier. A founder who prefers online intake should still identify the advisor responsible for resolving outstanding insurer questions and confirming the effective date. 5 24

The legal roles remain separate. Coterie carrier partners issue its policies, while Mylo arranges policies from insurers. Mylo’s Group 1001 backing does not identify a policy issuer, just as Allianz X’s investment in Coterie is not proof of an Allianz policy. Put the insurer’s legal name beside each commercial and benefits proposal. 8 19 25 39

Certificates, Renewals and Claims Contacts

Coterie documents policyholder tools and directs coverage questions to the agent. Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts, with a Mylo service-professional fallback. For a business trying to reduce administration, ask who handles each certificate, endorsement and renewal instead of assuming that buying several products through one broker creates a single universal workflow. 10 27

Claims should follow the issued policy’s notice instructions. Coterie’s intake and Mylo’s carrier directory are ways to find help; neither shows superior claim payment or overrides the relevant insurer’s obligations. Keep the business-policy contacts separate from employee-benefits support so a workplace injury is not routed to a routine enrollment channel. 11 27 37

Shopping Fees and Policy Charges

Mylo says guided shopping is free, generally earns carrier commissions and charges a customer fee in some transactions where it handles billing. Coterie discloses policy, installment and possible risk-program charges. Compare the total cost of the design firm’s proposed policies and service, including any separate benefits terms. Mylo’s company-wide fee-incidence claim does not establish that this buyer pays no fee. 25 8

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Separate employee policies: Which proposal is workers’ compensation and which is employee benefits, and who handles payroll information versus enrollment? 36 37
  • Retained professional coverage: If replacing Coterie, what changes in the insured services, prior-work date and reporting conditions? 14 33
  • Market and service schedule: Which insurers actually offered terms, and which contacts handle certificates, changes, claims and renewals for each? 24 27
  • Billing responsibility: Does a Mylo fee apply because it handles billing, and what Coterie or other product charges remain in the annual total? 25 8

Service Comparison

Coterie Insurance vs Mylo: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoterie InsuranceMylo
Coverage lines

Coterie's current core catalogue consists of a business owner's policy (BOP), standalone general liability and miscellaneous professional liability (MPL/E&O). A BOP combines liability with property coverage; the other two are distinct policies. 2,4,3,14

Coterie's December 2025 BOP guide states eligibility of up to $10 million in revenue and 50 employees, reduced to $5 million and 15 employees for contractors. It lists up to $1 million in building value and $500,000 in business personal property, with limits and availability still varying by state, industry and quote. 13,8

Coterie currently markets cyber, workplace violence, employment practices liability, restaurant, liquor liability and contractors equipment endorsements. Its BOP guide also lists optional hired and non-owned auto liability, equipment breakdown, drone liability and other property extensions. These are optional additions, not evidence of separate standalone policies. 12,13,15,16

Coterie's MPL is a claims-made professional liability policy for listed service professions. Its current guide says the basic policy includes a 60-day extended reporting period and offers longer periods for purchase; retroactive coverage and limits depend on the selected terms and eligibility. 14,8

Coterie's claims page expressly says it does not write workers' compensation or automobile policies. Hired and non-owned auto appears only as an optional liability endorsement in the BOP guide and should not be read as commercial auto physical-damage coverage. 11,13

Mylo’s current commercial catalogue lists business owner’s policies, commercial auto, general liability, cyber, medical malpractice, professional liability, surety bonds, commercial umbrella and workers’ compensation. 24,28,29,30,31,32,33,34,35,36

Mylo describes a business owner’s policy as combining general liability, commercial property and business-interruption coverage. The actual causes of loss, property, locations, limits and interruption period depend on the offered policy. 24,28

Mylo’s commercial-auto page describes bodily-injury and property-damage liability, with collision, comprehensive and non-owned-auto coverage as possible components depending on the business and vehicles. 29

For medical professionals, Mylo markets claims-made and occurrence malpractice policies and says tail coverage can extend reporting under a claims-made policy. Its page treats cyber liability as separate coverage to add rather than a protection supplied by malpractice insurance alone. 32

Mylo markets small-group benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, accident and critical-illness options. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and help from a licensed benefits advisor. 37

The reviewed public product pages do not provide current specimen policies, endorsements or a complete schedule of limits, deductibles, exclusions and state variations. Those terms must be checked in the actual quote and policy forms. 24,32,26

Application process

A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2

Coterie advertises bindable quotes in under two minutes for eligible standard risks. Its terms qualify that claim: a quote or estimate is not an insurance contract, and coverage remains subject to underwriting approval, eligibility verification and formal policy issuance. 6,8

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 24,26

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 26

Access to insurers

Coterie's terms say carrier partners underwrite and issue its policies. Its claims page identifies a separate Spinnaker Specialty route for surplus-lines policies beginning CSE, while its current coastal guide names Spinnaker Insurance Company only for eligible coastal Texas BOP risks. The issuing insurer therefore needs to be checked on each quote and policy. 8,11,17

Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 24,27

Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 24,27,26

Servicing and renewals

Policyholders can use My Policy Center, request policy changes, generate certificates and start a claim online. Coterie tells policyholders to use their agent or broker first for coverage questions and provides public sample BOP, general liability and professional liability forms for orientation. 10,8

Coterie's policyholder FAQ says each business location must have its own policy rather than listing several operating addresses on one Coterie policy. 10

Unless a policy says otherwise, Coterie's terms describe a 12-month policy that may renew automatically. Renewal charges may use the payment method on file, and the policyholder can contact Coterie or use account tools to change renewal preferences. 8

The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 24,27,37

Fees and compensation

Coterie's terms say new and renewal policies have a one-time policy fee whose amount varies, successful installments carry a $7 fee, late fees can be up to $10 and insufficient-funds fees up to $35. Fees vary by state and line, can be nonrefundable, and additional charges must be disclosed before bind or renewal. 8

A Coterie policy can include a separate Manage My Risk Program fee that the terms call fully earned on payment and nonrefundable after midterm cancellation. The terms say participation, or an accepted outside risk program, affects the insurance premium but do not publish the program fee amount. 8

Coterie's privacy policy says it may pay commissions to certain agents through a third-party processor. The reviewed public sources do not state the commission rate or whether additional producer compensation applies to a particular buyer's policy. 9,8

Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 25
