Mylo vs
RiskCube
Compare Mylo and RiskCube when early hiring creates both employee-benefit needs and startup insurance requirements.
Introduction
A small startup making its first hires may need employee benefits at the same time an enterprise customer asks for liability insurance. Mylo markets small-business brokerage and group benefits. RiskCube markets startup commercial coverage and vendor-requirement support. These needs can be coordinated, but a benefits enrollment and a liability placement are separate decisions with different documents and eligibility questions. 1 14 26 25

Key Differences Between Mylo and RiskCube
Benefits Enrollment Is Not Key Person Coverage
Mylo markets small-group benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, accident and critical-illness options. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and help from a licensed benefits advisor. 14
RiskCube markets key person life for founders and critical employees, but its reviewed P&C license disclosure does not establish the life-licensed producer or California route. Key person protection for a business is not an employee health-benefit program. Conversely, the life option in a benefits menu does not establish a policy satisfying a lender's key-person requirement. Keep those requests separate in the quote brief. 29 30 22 14
A Broker's Backer Is Not the Policy's Insurer
Mylo's history begins within Lockton, but its current materials identify Group 1001 backing, and the recorded ownership reporting describes the later change. It should not be evaluated as a current Lockton-owned channel on the strength of that history. RiskCube identifies a brokerage subsidiary and platform parent. In both cases the commercial quote must name the issuing insurer; ownership does not answer that question. 2 16 17 23
Shopping and Ongoing Administration
Mylo offers online or phone shopping and says an advisor finalizes most policies. RiskCube describes broker-reviewed comparison after intake and a platform for policies, certificates and renewal reminders. For a founder delegating insurance to a new operations hire, ask for separate handovers: benefits enrollment and employee changes on one side, commercial-policy documents and customer certificates on the other. 1 14 21
Mylo's carrier directory supplies service and claim contacts, while its reviewed materials do not establish a single commercial servicing workflow across insurers. Its benefits HR portal should not be assumed to handle every commercial policy change. RiskCube's platform description likewise does not establish that every requested endorsement is self-service or automatically approved. 4 14 24
Ask Which Transactions Carry a Fee
Mylo says guided shopping is free and that a minority of purchases involve an administrative fee, without publishing the account-specific amount. RiskCube's no-added-broker-fee language coexists with possible agreed service and payment charges. Neither statement establishes the total cost of handling benefits and several business policies together. Request the fees and service scope for each transaction. 2 21 23
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Which employees and locations qualify for the proposed benefits plans, and who handles enrollment changes? 14
- Is any requested life coverage an employee benefit or a business-owned key person placement, and who is licensed to arrange it? 14 30 22
- Who handles commercial certificates, carrier claims and renewals independently of the benefits portal? 4 21
- What service or administrative fees apply to the selected policies and billing methods? 2 23
Service Comparison
Mylo vs RiskCube: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Mylo | RiskCube |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 1,2 Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 2,16,17 Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 1,3,18,19 Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 15,16 | RiskCube offers startup insurance brokerage through RiskCube Insurance Services, LLC. Its parent, RiskCube, Inc., supplies the platform and operational support; third-party insurers issue coverage. 24,23 |
| Application process | A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 1,3 Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 3 | RiskCube describes one digital intake followed by AI-assisted and broker-reviewed quote comparison and digital purchase. The public application URL reviewed displayed a contact form rather than a complete underwriting flow. 21,31 For technology E&O, RiskCube asks for product, customer, revenue and contract details, plus prior claims or known incidents. It qualifies its advertised quote timing by risk profile and underwriting complexity. 27 RiskCube’s terms say quotes are not binders: written confirmation from the insurer or its authorized representative and required conditions must be satisfied before coverage is bound. 24 |
| Servicing and renewals | The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 1,4,14 | RiskCube describes platform access for policy management, certificate generation and renewal notifications. A certificate does not change coverage under its terms. 21,24 RiskCube says it reviews vendor insurance requirements and checks requested endorsements, including additional insured and waiver-of-subrogation language. Its terms warn that AI-assisted output can be incomplete or inaccurate. 26,24 |
| Fees and compensation | Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 2 | RiskCube’s homepage and FAQ advertise no added broker fees, but its compensation disclosure allows agreed service fees and payment-processing charges. It also describes insurer or intermediary commissions and possible performance incentives. The scope of the fee-free claim needs written clarification for the requested services. 21,26,23 |
