Armilla vs Mylo

Compare small-business insurance and benefits shopping with a focused inquiry into AI liability and performance.

Introduction

A small AI company hiring its first team may be shopping for ordinary business insurance and employee benefits while an enterprise customer asks for a performance guarantee. Mylo markets small-business insurance shopping and a separate small-group benefits service. Armilla offers AI liability, assessment and warranty products. These address different purchasing decisions, even when one finance person manages them all. 9 22 6

Key Differences Between Armilla and Mylo

Separate the Employer Program from the Customer Promise

Mylo’s benefits offering targets employers with 2–99 employees and describes advisor support and an HR portal. Its commercial catalogue includes professional liability, cyber and workers’ compensation. Armilla’s warranty concerns agreed AI performance metrics, while its liability product addresses AI-related claims. Do not count a warranty as employee coverage or assume that professional-liability shopping has already settled the customer’s performance requirement. 22 9 2

The records do not establish that Mylo cannot arrange additional AI protection. Ask the advisor for the proposed form and market access before deciding whether a separate specialist engagement is needed. 9 11

Advisor Shopping and Assessment Have Different Inputs

Mylo describes online or phone intake, available quote comparisons and agent finalization for most policies. Armilla describes an assessment before tailoring its plan. Business and payroll information can support the agency purchase while model behavior, intended use and performance commitments frame the technical work; ask each party to define its required materials rather than assuming one application satisfies both. 9 2 5

Mylo’s historical Lockton origin should not be used to identify the current owner or insurer. Its record describes later Group 1001 backing, and its carrier directory spans multiple insurers. The backing relationship does not tell you who issues the policy or whether a particular AI activity is eligible. 10 24 12

Compare Actual Charges, Not the Shopping Invitation

Mylo says most customers do not pay it a purchase fee, but describes exceptions and does not give the account-specific amount. Armilla’s assessment and policy costs likewise require a proposal. Compare the cost of the services actually requested, including benefits administration where relevant, instead of assuming a free shopping service means every subsequent engagement is free. 10 7 6

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Identify the policy that addresses your AI service and the separate contract, if any, that backs a customer performance promise. 18 2
  • Confirm benefits eligibility, who handles commercial renewals, and the responsible insurer rather than assuming the benefits portal services every policy. 22 12
  • Obtain California placement and an itemized total for insurance, any agency fee, assessment and warranty. 9 10 1 7

Service Comparison

Armilla vs Mylo: documented services and availability

CriteriaArmillaMylo
Business role

Armilla markets AI liability insurance, performance warranties and model assessments. It describes its insurance operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with underwriting responsibilities, and names Armilla Insurance Services as a Lloyd’s coverholder. These descriptions do not make Armilla the risk-bearing insurer. 3,1,6

Florida’s corporate registry lists Armilla Insurance Services Inc., a Delaware corporation. This establishes a corporate identity, not an insurance license or authority to place a California risk. 8

Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 9,10

Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 10,24,25

Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 9,11,26,27

Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 23,24

Application process

Armilla’s insurance FAQ says to begin with an AI risk assessment, followed by a tailored insurance or warranty plan. The site directs buyers to contact its team; coverage requires written confirmation and completion of underwriting requirements. 2,1

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 9,11

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 11

Fees and compensation

Armilla advertises commissions to brokers without publishing rates on the reviewed broker page. Its website terms allow service fees but do not provide an insurance-specific fee schedule. Premiums, assessment costs and any broker or policy charges need an itemized quote. 6,7

Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 10

Servicing and renewals

Armilla Verified evaluates model performance, fairness, security and robustness. Armilla describes scoping, testing, remediation support and an internal report, with a badge conditional on meeting benchmarks. Optional monitoring and retesting are offered as models change. 5

The reviewed assessment and insurance pages do not disclose insurance renewal procedures or whether ongoing model monitoring is included in the premium. Optional assessment support should be priced and scoped separately in the proposal. 5,2

The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 9,12,22
