CFC vs Mylo

Compare CFC’s eHealth product with Mylo’s malpractice, cyber and benefits brokerage for a digital-health company beginning to hire.

Introduction

A digital-health startup hiring clinicians and launching a remote-care service needs to separate clinical liability, technology failure, data incidents and employee benefits. CFC’s eHealth product is built around the healthcare/technology intersection. Mylo offers malpractice and cyber shopping through its brokerage, plus small-group benefits. The question is whether a combined specialty policy or coordinated separate placements better matches the actual activities—not which catalogue has more entries. 19 38 43

Where Each Provider Shines

Where CFC Shines

  • Technology E&O, cyber and media in a package 2
  • Cyber threat monitoring and 24/7 incident support 7

Where Mylo Shines

  • Buyers can shop online or with a licensed advisor; Mylo says it compares available quotes, with an agent finalizing most policies. 30,32
  • Employers with 2–99 employees can explore group benefits with a licensed advisor and a year-round HR portal. 43

Key Differences Between CFC and Mylo

Clinical and Software Exposures Must Be Matched Explicitly

CFC’s eHealth description includes technology E&O and bodily injury arising from cyber events and system outages. Mylo’s malpractice page distinguishes claims-made and occurrence options and describes cyber as separate protection to add. Ask each proposal to address a missed treatment caused by software or a service outage, rather than assuming a malpractice label answers the technology question. 19 38

For a clinician bringing earlier work into the business, the Mylo page’s discussion of tail coverage raises a separate continuity question. Compare the treatment of previous services and reporting dates in the actual offered forms. CFC’s package description is not evidence that all earlier clinical work is included, and Mylo’s explanation does not identify the tail available for this specialty or state. 38 19

Hiring Adds a Different Kind of Insurance Purchase

Mylo markets group benefits for employers with 2–99 employees and describes advisor support and an HR portal. Those plans serve the workforce; they do not replace professional or cyber liability for patient-facing operations. CFC’s eHealth proposition should likewise not be mistaken for employee health coverage. Assign separate budgets and evaluation criteria to the benefits and liability decisions. 43 19

Mylo allows online questions or phone advice and says an agent finalizes most policies. CFC is a specialty underwriting provider working through brokers. Mylo might be evaluated as the coordinator of several placements, but the reviewed carrier panel does not establish Mylo access to CFC eHealth. 30 5 6

Ownership and Claims Contacts Do Not Identify the Same Party

Mylo’s origins within Lockton should not be used to describe current ownership: the reviewed public documentation identifies later Group 1001 backing and a 2023 report of majority investment. Neither relationship establishes the insurer for a malpractice or benefits proposal. CFC’s brand similarly does not identify every contracting insurer. 31 45 46 4

Mylo directs customers to carrier-specific service and claims contacts, with a Mylo fallback. CFC publishes general claims and urgent cyber channels. For an event involving both patient harm and data compromise, obtain instructions for all potentially affected policies and the party coordinating notifications; one telephone call should not be assumed to satisfy every policy. 33 8

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Match clinical services, telemedicine, software and outage-related injury to the exact insuring agreements, including earlier-work and reporting provisions. 19 38
  • Separate employee-benefit plan eligibility and administration from the company’s malpractice and cyber policies. 43
  • Identify each legal insurer, California availability, any Mylo billing fee and the multi-policy incident contact plan. Mylo’s statement that most customers pay no fee is not a quote-specific waiver. 31 33 4

Service Comparison

CFC vs Mylo: documented services and availability

CriteriaCFCMylo
Business role

CFC is a specialist insurance provider operating an MGA model: a managing general agent performs underwriting functions for insurance capacity providers. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and the U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand should not be treated as the name of every policy’s insurer. 5,4

Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 30,31

Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 31,45,46

Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 30,32,47,48

Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 44,45

Access to insurers

CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. 4,2,3

Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 30,33

Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 30,33,32

Application process

The U.S. technology application asks a senior staff member to complete it and return it to the company’s insurance broker. It requests revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, major contracts, security controls, IP procedures and claims history. CFC’s Connect portal separately supports broker trading and describes a broker appointment process. 3,6

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 30,32

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 32

Servicing and renewals

CFC says its cyber service includes threat monitoring and alerts, a response app and round-the-clock technical incident support. These are company-described services; access, scope and any conditions should be checked against the proposed policy. 7

The reviewed Connect and technology application pages do not specify a customer-facing renewal timetable, certificate turnaround or dedicated account-management commitment for California technology buyers. Confirm those arrangements with the placing broker. 6,3

The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 30,33,43

Claims assistance

CFC’s U.S. claims page provides a general claim-reporting form, email and telephone route, plus a separate cyber-incident phone route and app reporting. These channels establish how CFC invites notifications, not claims payment speed or the outcome of a coverage decision. 8

Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts and directs customers to the insurer for many service needs. If a carrier is not listed, the page gives a Mylo Service Professional number; it does not promise that Mylo decides or pays claims. 33
