Embroker vs Mylo

Compare Embroker’s specialty commercial programs with Mylo’s commercial shopping and small-group benefits service as a professional business hires staff.

Introduction

Embroker is a commercial broker and insurance platform with proprietary programs for technology, management and lawyers’ liability. Mylo is a broker that compares insurance from multiple carriers and offers commercial coverage alongside small-group benefits. A professional business expanding its team should treat protection for its work, protection as an employer and employee benefits as separate decisions. 10 9 27 40

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Embroker Shines

  • Its Management Insurance Suite brings several management coverages into one application, with technology E&O/cyber for eligible technology businesses. 9
  • Separate technology and law-firm packages group coverage around those businesses’ activities, subject to the offered policy terms. 17,16

Where Mylo Shines

  • Buyers can shop online or with a licensed advisor; Mylo says it compares available quotes, with an agent finalizing most policies. 27,29
  • Employers with 2–99 employees can explore group benefits with a licensed advisor and a year-round HR portal. 40

Key Differences Between Embroker and Mylo

Profession-Specific Liability Placements

The two businesses have overlap in general liability, business owner’s policies, cyber, professional liability and workers’ compensation. Their specific offerings still matter more than the shared labels. Embroker documents a lawyers’ professional-liability program and a technology errors and omissions (E&O)/cyber program; Mylo has a dedicated medical-malpractice offering. A law firm, software consultant and medical practice should not assume the same professional-liability proposal fits all three. 8 10 27 35

A medical practice is adding clinicians and administrative employees. Mylo explicitly markets claims-made and occurrence malpractice options and describes tail coverage, which can extend the period for reporting claims under a claims-made policy. That gives the practice concrete questions about earlier clinical work and what happens when a clinician leaves. Embroker’s broader professional-liability catalogue does not establish a medical-malpractice placement for that specialty; ask its broker to identify the actual market before treating a general E&O quote as the alternative. 35 8 2

That is a difference in documented offerings, not a conclusion that Embroker cannot arrange insurance outside its named programs. Likewise, Mylo’s malpractice description does not establish acceptance of every specialty, treatment or state. Give each advisor the same clinician roster, services and expiring-policy history, and require the proposed insurer and wording before comparing premiums. 2 35 29

Employer Liability, Benefits and Workers’ Compensation

Mylo’s small-group service targets employers with 2–99 employees and includes health, dental, vision, life, disability and other benefits. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and licensed benefits-advisor help. For the practice, this is a documented route to employee enrollment and ongoing administration alongside commercial insurance shopping. Confirm the plans and networks available to the actual workforce. 40

Embroker’s management suite addresses a different employer need: selected directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary liability, with technology E&O/cyber for eligible technology companies. Fiduciary liability concerns allegations about managing benefit plans; it is not the health plan that employees enroll in. The practice might therefore investigate Mylo benefits while separately comparing management-liability proposals, rather than treating the two services as substitutes. 9 40

Workers’ compensation is another separate line in both catalogues. Ask for it by work location and employee duties, without assuming that a benefits enrollment or management-liability selection also buys workplace-injury coverage. A combined proposal should identify each selected policy and plan, who administers it and its renewal date. 8 39 40

Cyber Coverage and Issuing Insurers

Mylo’s malpractice page treats cyber as additional protection rather than part of malpractice alone. If the practice handles patient records through outside systems, give both brokers a description of the data, services and vendors. Embroker’s technology E&O/cyber program is aimed at eligible technology businesses; a medical practice should ask which cyber product is actually proposed rather than assume the technology program applies because it uses software. 35 34 11 8

The buying role is also distinct from the insurer. Mylo recommends and shops policies rather than issuing its own insurance. Embroker identifies insurers for specific proprietary programs, including Everspan Indemnity for its Management Insurance Suite (EMIS), while its brokerage catalogue extends beyond one issuer. Require the legal insurer on each quote; Mylo’s carrier-panel size and Embroker’s named program relationship do not establish which proposal the practice will receive. 28 27 9 2

Shopping Paths and Ongoing Service

Mylo lets buyers begin online or work with an advisor by phone; it says agents finalize most business purchases. Embroker distinguishes an online account from appointing it as broker of record. Prepare the information once, but ask each route which applications and authorizations are required for the malpractice, commercial and management proposals. Neither a completed intake nor a recommendation guarantees issuance. 27 29 2

For ongoing service, keep Mylo’s benefits HR portal separate from commercial policy administration. Its carrier directory provides insurer service and claims contacts, plus a Mylo fallback when a carrier is not listed. Embroker’s account offers policy and certificate functions while it is broker of record. Ask who adds a clinician, changes a location or handles a customer’s endorsement request; neither interface description establishes that every policy change is immediate. 40 30 4

Fees, Financing and Replacement Costs

Mylo says guided shopping is free and 95% of customers pay it no fee when buying; it usually earns carrier commissions. In fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges for additional billing administration, without publishing the amount. Confirm that disclosure for the practice’s actual placement; it is not a promise that every policy or benefits plan has no fees. 28

Embroker’s software is free, while it discloses commissions and possible negotiated client fees approved before binding, plus separate payment and financing charges. Compare annual premiums, benefits costs and buyer-paid fees as separate items. If malpractice replacement needs tail coverage, obtain that price too; a lower new-policy premium does not answer the cost of preserving the desired reporting protection. 3 2 35

For a claim, Mylo’s directory directs customers to carrier-specific contacts; Embroker supplies account instructions and policy-hotline guidance for active cyber events. Preserve those contacts outside the portal and check notice deadlines under each form. The service routes do not establish which insurer will accept or settle a particular claim. 30 19

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • A profession-specific offer: Confirm accepted clinical activities, insurer, claims-made or occurrence form, earlier-work treatment and tail options; request an identified Embroker market if seeking a competing malpractice proposal. 35 2
  • Separate employer schedules: List employee-benefit plans, enrollment support, workers’ compensation and selected management-liability components. 40 39 9
  • A data-risk proposal: Identify cyber coverage separately from malpractice, with accepted activities and incident contacts. 35 19
  • A full service and cost statement: Confirm any Mylo billing fee, Embroker client fee, financing, clinician-change process and replacement reporting cost. 28 30 3

Service Comparison

Embroker vs Mylo: documented services and availability

CriteriaEmbrokerMylo
Application process

The public quote-start screen asks for a company name and whether the company has a website. It links the terms and compensation disclosure before continuing. 26

An account alone does not appoint Embroker as your broker. Using its brokerage service requires a broker- or agent-of-record designation and exclusive work with Embroker for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2

An application may need additional underwriting information or be declined; a quote itself does not put insurance in force. 2

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 27,29

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 29

Access to insurers

Embroker names Everspan Indemnity Insurance Company as the insurer for EMIS and its excess Tech E&O/Cyber program. Its lawyers’ professional liability program names Everest National Insurance Company. These are product-specific relationships, not one carrier for the entire catalogue. 9,13,14,15

Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 27,30

Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 27,30,29

Fees and compensation

Embroker’s software is free. Insurance services can generate insurer commissions, contingent compensation linked to business results, and supplemental commissions. Embroker may also negotiate client fees alongside or instead of commissions, approved before binding, usually in writing. 3

Payment processors and premium-finance lenders can add their own charges. Ask for the total cost and installment terms separately from Embroker’s compensation. 2

Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 28

Servicing and renewals

EMIS replaces the two previous management-liability offerings for new customers. Embroker says existing policyholders can continue renewing their legacy products; switching to EMIS requires a new-business application. 9

The FAQ describes downloadable policies and certificates for accounts where Embroker is the broker of record. Custom certificate wording may require a policy endorsement first. 4

Renewals vary: some policies renew through the insurer, while others need a fresh application and underwriting. Embroker describes reviewing the proposal, accepting it and paying or arranging financing; the new policy’s effective date controls when the renewal begins. 4

If you move to another broker, Embroker says you lose account-based certificate issuance and policy-change functions. A replacement broker outside Embroker Access may also be unable to renew proprietary products. 4

The reviewed public pages identify Mylo advisors, a service-professional fallback and a benefits HR portal, but do not establish one universal workflow for commercial policy changes, certificates, renewals or cancellations across carriers. 27,30,40

Claims assistance

Embroker directs customers to their account’s Claims tab for reporting instructions. For an active cyber event, it says to use the hotline in the policy; other claims can be reported to the insurer using policy contacts. 19

The claims page promises a written coverage determination within 30 days of reporting, but its FAQ gives no fixed time to resolve a claim. A coverage decision is not a payment deadline, and the website statement is not independent evidence of claims performance. 19

Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts and directs customers to the insurer for many service needs. If a carrier is not listed, the page gives a Mylo Service Professional number; it does not promise that Mylo decides or pays claims. 30
