What Is Embroker?

How Embroker’s insurance programs, brokerage services, applications, fees and policy management work.

Embroker is a business insurance broker and online platform for buying and managing coverage. It serves funded startups, technology companies, law firms, investment firms and other professional-services businesses. You can apply online or get help arranging insurance from its brokers. 1,2,4

Pros And Cons

Pros

  • One application for several management risks. Embroker Management Insurance Suite (EMIS) puts directors and officers (D&O), employment practices and fiduciary liability for employee benefit plans in one application, with technology errors and omissions (Tech E&O)/cyber for eligible technology companies. Buyers can select individual coverages or a bundle. 9
  • Access through your own broker can be possible. Embroker Access distributes proprietary programs to appointed brokers. A business can therefore ask whether its existing broker can arrange the program and remain involved in its insurance. 10
  • Specific programs beyond startup insurance. The lawyers’ liability program publishes a small-firm appetite and pre-claim assistance; the investment-firm offering addresses venture capital asset protection. Buyers can assess an offering built around their profession instead of relying on a generic coverage label. 14 25
  • Policy paperwork can be handled online. Embroker documents access to policy PDFs and certificate tools. For buyers frequently asked to provide proof of insurance, that creates a practical self-service route once the policy and broker-of-record requirements are met. 4

Cons

  • Switching brokers can affect future access. Leaving Embroker removes some account servicing functions, and a new broker outside Embroker Access may be unable to renew proprietary products. Check continuity before moving an account. 4
  • Its excess product has a separate eligibility test. A cyber-only primary policy does not qualify under the broker program, and the retail FAQ excludes placing Embroker excess over an Embroker primary policy. Buying a primary policy here does not automatically provide a route to higher limits. 13 12
  • Public coverage descriptions need reconciliation. Retail and broker pages describe intellectual-property protection differently. The lawyers’ specimen and current defense-cost marketing also require checking the offered options and endorsements. These differences matter when a contract requires particular coverage. 12 11 15 14
  • Free software does not mean insurance services have no charges. Embroker discloses commissions and possible negotiated client fees, including fees in addition to insurer commissions. Establish the compensation arrangement before accepting a quote. 3

How It Works

The public quote-start screen asks for a company name and whether the company has a website. It links the terms and compensation disclosure before continuing. 26

Embroker’s quote-start interface with an empty company-name field, optional website question, linked terms and a Continue button.

Starting an Embroker quote

An account alone does not appoint Embroker as your broker. Using its brokerage service requires a broker- or agent-of-record designation and exclusive work with Embroker for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2

In ordinary terms, a broker-of-record designation appoints the intermediary handling the insurance relationship. Before signing one, establish which policies and services it covers. 2

An application may need additional underwriting information or be declined; a quote itself does not put insurance in force. 2

Who Arranges Coverage And Who Insures It

Embroker Insurance Services LLC is the producer named in its public lawyers’ liability specimen. Florida’s corporate record lists Embroker, Inc. as the LLC’s authorized member. That identifies a corporate relationship, not the insurer on your policy. 15,7

Embroker distributes proprietary programs through its own channel and through other brokers using Embroker Access. Its terms also allow it to perform underwriting work for insurers under their guidelines; the issuing insurer bears the policy obligations. 10,2

Embroker names Everspan Indemnity Insurance Company as the insurer for EMIS and its excess Tech E&O/Cyber program. Its lawyers’ professional liability program names Everest National Insurance Company. These are product-specific relationships, not one carrier for the entire catalogue. 9,13,14,15

Ask for the issuing company on each proposed policy. A proprietary Embroker product and a policy arranged through its brokerage can involve different forms and insurers. 2 10

Coverage And Availability

The Coverage Catalogue

The main catalogue offers business owner’s policies, general liability, commercial crime, cyber, D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability, professional liability (including lawyers’ liability), Tech E&O/Cyber and workers’ compensation. 8

Embroker also has direct offerings for commercial auto, commercial property, product liability, surety bonds and key person life insurance, plus venture capital asset protection (VCAP) for investment firms. 21,22,24,23,20,25

The sidebar’s “Umbrella and excess liability” entry refers to the documented excess Tech E&O/Cyber program. It should not be read as a promise of a general commercial umbrella policy. 13

The technology package combines Tech E&O/Cyber with a business owner’s policy. The law-firm package groups lawyers’ professional liability, cyber, a business owner’s policy and workers’ compensation. The package names do not establish identical terms across industries. 17,16

Management Liability And The EMIS Transition

Embroker’s August 2026 Management Insurance Suite (EMIS) brings D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability and, for eligible technology companies, Tech E&O/Cyber into one application. Buyers may select individual coverages or a bundle. 9

The launch expands the stated audience beyond technology to private businesses in professional services, manufacturing, construction and wholesale trade. The Tech E&O/Cyber component still has its own technology-company eligibility requirement. 9

EMIS replaces the two previous management-liability offerings for new customers. Embroker says existing policyholders can continue renewing their legacy products; switching to EMIS requires a new-business application. 9

For a renewing customer, the useful comparison is the offered renewal against a specific EMIS proposal, including the forms, limits and treatment of earlier work. A newer product name alone does not establish an improvement in your coverage. 9

Technology, Cyber And AI

The broker Tech E&O/Cyber program targets private, for-profit technology companies with revenue below $300 million. It requires multifactor authentication for accounts above $5 million in revenue and excludes businesses involved in crypto, blockchain or cannabis. 11

Embroker’s retail Tech E&O page lists intellectual-property infringement, copyright and libel among exclusions, while its broker program advertises software-code infringement coverage. The public descriptions do not reconcile that difference; request the proposed form and endorsements for your activities. 12,11

Embroker describes an AI endorsement for eligible Tech E&O/Cyber quotes addressing AI services, discrimination allegations and regulatory-investigation defense. It advertises up to $150,000 for algorithm-removal expenses. Obtain the endorsement to check triggers, exclusions and how that sublimit relates to the policy limit. 18

The technology-industry page reserves some fraud, utility-fraud and equipment-replacement features for its “Plus” package. Confirm the tier and applicable sublimits—the smaller caps within the overall limit—when comparing quotes. 17

Excess Coverage Has Its Own Rules

Embroker Access advertises up to $5 million of excess Tech E&O/Cyber above eligible underlying insurance. Its appetite requires a primary limit of at least $1 million and Tech E&O, with or without cyber; cyber-only underlying insurance is ineligible. 13

The retail Tech E&O FAQ says Embroker’s excess product cannot sit above an Embroker primary policy. An Embroker primary buyer therefore needs a separate answer about how to obtain higher limits. 12

The broker page describes compatibility with more than 50 primary carriers. That is a statement about policies the excess program may sit above, not the number of insurers Embroker will shop for you. It asks for the primary application, primary quote and any relevant excess quotes, giving your broker a concrete document list for checking the proposed layers. 13

Lawyers’ Liability: Read The Proposed Form

The broker lawyers’ professional liability (LPL) program lists firms with 1–25 attorneys, no claims or law-license disciplinary actions, a physical address and risk-management and docket controls. It advertises pre-claim assistance without a deductible and defense-cost options. 14

The public Everest LPL specimen uses claims-made coverage: its insuring agreement ties protection to when a claim is made and reported and to a retroactive date for the underlying work. Its base wording makes claim expenses reduce the liability limit. Current marketing also describes defense costs outside the limit, so check which endorsements your quote includes. 15,14

A defense-cost option matters because paying lawyers from the same limit can leave less available for a settlement. The posted specimen is a 2019 form with state amendments still marked to be determined; use it to identify questions, then obtain the actual proposed wording. 15

State And Product Eligibility

Embroker publishes license numbers for all 50 states and Washington, D.C. That company list is not a product-availability map. Its terms make eligibility dependent on location and risk; this research did not independently verify the complete license list. 5,2,6

Service And Compensation

Documents And Renewals

The FAQ describes downloadable policies and certificates for accounts where Embroker is the broker of record. Custom certificate wording may require a policy endorsement first. 4

Renewals vary: some policies renew through the insurer, while others need a fresh application and underwriting. Embroker describes reviewing the proposal, accepting it and paying or arranging financing; the new policy’s effective date controls when the renewal begins. 4

Claims Reporting And Payment

Embroker directs customers to their account’s Claims tab for reporting instructions. For an active cyber event, it says to use the hotline in the policy; other claims can be reported to the insurer using policy contacts. 19

Embroker’s claims service page showing the three steps: file a claim, receive confirmation and review, and obtain guidance toward resolution.

Embroker’s claims reporting process

The claims page promises a written coverage determination within 30 days of reporting, but its FAQ gives no fixed time to resolve a claim. A coverage decision is not a payment deadline, and the website statement is not independent evidence of claims performance. 19

Keep the reporting route separate from the payment obligation: Embroker’s terms place the policy obligations with the issuing insurer. Account access or help reporting an incident does not establish that the claim is covered. 2

Fees And Other Compensation

Embroker’s software is free. Insurance services can generate insurer commissions, contingent compensation linked to business results, and supplemental commissions. Embroker may also negotiate client fees alongside or instead of commissions, approved before binding, usually in writing. 3

Contingent commissions may depend on new or retained business, loss results or underwriting assistance; supplemental commissions reflect prior-year performance. The disclosure explains potential incentives but does not establish which arrangement or amount applies to your account. 3

Payment processors and premium-finance lenders can add their own charges. Ask for the total cost and installment terms separately from Embroker’s compensation. 2

What To Confirm In A Quote

Use the proposal and its attachments to resolve the questions the public materials leave open:

  • Product and insurer: Is this EMIS, a legacy renewal, another proprietary program or a broker-arranged policy? Which insurer issues each part, and does its status satisfy your contractual requirements? 9 2
  • Technology terms: Which IP rights, AI activities and fraud events are covered? Obtain the actual exclusions, AI endorsement, package tier and sublimits. 12 11 18
  • Excess compatibility: Does the proposed underlying policy qualify, and what happens if it changes at renewal? Confirm the attachment point—the amount of underlying insurance below this layer. 13
  • Law-firm protection: Do defense costs use the limit, what deductible applies, and are the reporting period and retroactive date appropriate for earlier work? Check all endorsements against the specimen. 15 14
  • Costs and continuity: Request the client-fee agreement, payment charges, renewal steps and the servicing consequences of a future broker change. 3 4
  • Claim notice: Confirm the insurer’s reporting address or portal, the cyber emergency hotline and the policy’s notice requirements. 19
