Coverdash vs
Embroker
Coverdash’s brokerage options and Embroker’s proprietary programs require different checks when a technology business adds management coverage or higher limits.
Introduction
Coverdash and Embroker both offer online business-insurance brokerage. Coverdash markets comparison shopping across a broad catalogue; Embroker also distributes proprietary programs through its own brokerage and appointed Embroker Access brokers. A technology company asked to buy higher limits needs to check which proposed policies can sit together under the published excess rules. 4 3 29 37 40

Key Differences Between Coverdash and Embroker
Incumbent Cyber and Technology E&O
A technology firm with a standalone cyber policy and a new enterprise customer asking for technology E&O as well as higher limits faces two products that are not interchangeable. Coverdash separately markets the two lines and says some Tech E&O policies include cyber while others do not. Embroker offers a combined Tech E&O/cyber program with a published technology-business appetite. First establish whether the incumbent policy insures technology-service liability; adding a larger cyber limit does not by itself answer the new requirement. 17 22 38
Embroker’s broker program targets private, for-profit technology companies below $300 million in revenue, requires multifactor authentication above $5 million in revenue and excludes crypto, blockchain and cannabis businesses. Those inputs need to be checked before planning around the program. Coverdash’s general product page leaves insurer-specific eligibility to the offered placement, so request that insurer’s requirements with the quote. Neither company’s technology positioning guarantees the particular business will be accepted. 38 17 2
Higher Limits and Underlying Policy Compatibility
Embroker Access advertises up to $5 million of excess Tech E&O/Cyber above eligible underlying insurance. Its appetite requires a primary limit of at least $1 million and Tech E&O, with or without cyber; cyber-only underlying insurance is ineligible. 40
That rule changes the next step for the firm. Its cyber-only incumbent policy cannot be assumed eligible for Embroker’s excess product; the broker needs the underlying technology coverage and limit information first. Embroker’s retail FAQ also says its excess cannot sit above an Embroker primary policy. Choosing an Embroker primary and adding Embroker excess are therefore not automatically successive steps in one purchase. 40 39
Coverdash markets umbrella and excess products, but those catalogue labels do not establish a compatible excess technology layer either. Ask each advisor to produce a schedule of the underlying and excess insurer, attachment point—the amount of insurance below the excess layer—and any differences in coverage. Embroker’s published primary-application and quote requirements provide a concrete submission list; the final insurer must accept the actual forms. 3 2 40
If the customer also requires intellectual-property protection, Embroker’s retail exclusions and Access software-code infringement feature need reconciliation in the proposal. Coverdash’s Tech E&O description likewise cannot settle the scope of a particular insurer’s IP wording. Request the relevant endorsement or exclusion before telling procurement that a larger liability limit resolves the issue. 39 38 17
Management Coverage Components
A funding round can add directors and officers, employment practices or fiduciary requirements alongside the customer contract. Coverdash describes management liability with D&O at its core and optional employment, fiduciary and crime components. Embroker’s Management Insurance Suite (EMIS) combines selectable D&O, employment practices and fiduciary coverages in one application, with Tech E&O/cyber for eligible technology businesses. Ask for the selected components, not just a management-package price. 18 36
Embroker names Everspan for EMIS; another program can use another insurer. Coverdash’s multi-carrier service similarly requires an insurer-by-policy schedule. One application or one dashboard does not imply one insurance contract, identical exclusions or a common limit across every line. 36 41 2
Broker Appointment and Future Access
Both companies’ direct brokerage terms call for a broker- or agent-of-record appointment and exclusivity for the covered services unless otherwise agreed. Embroker Access introduces a separate route through an appointed outside broker. Before transferring the account, identify which policies the appointment covers and whether the intended advisor can service and renew the proposed proprietary program. 2 29 37
Embroker says leaving its brokerage removes account-based certificate and policy-change functions, and a replacement broker outside Access may be unable to renew proprietary policies. Coverdash documents policy service and certificate tools through its account but does not establish the same transfer consequences. Ask for the actual handover plan rather than assuming a common digital interface creates identical portability. Losing a service function is not the same as the existing policy automatically canceling. 31 11 13
Renewal Work for the Finance Team
Coverdash’s automatic-renewal authorization applies where it facilitates billing and permits a premium increase up to 20% without renewed consent if material coverage terms do not change. Larger increases or material changes need renewed consent. That is an approval threshold, not a price ceiling, and financed policies can continue with new finance documentation. A team requiring approval of every renewal should arrange and track its opt-out. 6
Embroker describes insurer-dependent renewals that may require fresh underwriting and acceptance. For existing legacy management products, its EMIS announcement permits continued legacy renewals but requires a new-business application to switch. Compare continuity and earlier-work terms before treating the newer suite as a routine renewal. Neither a legacy renewal nor a new suite should be assumed to preserve a separately arranged excess layer without checking it. 31 36 40
Fees and Incident Contacts
Coverdash’s per-policy Technology Access Fee is fully earned and nonrefundable, and other commissions or negotiated fees can apply. Embroker’s software is free, while brokerage services can earn commissions and negotiated client fees. Both describe payment or financing costs separately. Request a total for the proposed primary, excess and management policies, including costs that remain if one placement is canceled. 5 12 30 29
Coverdash offers claim-start assistance through its account. Embroker directs active cyber events to the policy hotline and other claims to insurer instructions. Store those instructions for every layer outside the platform, particularly before a broker transfer. A broker’s help reporting an incident does not determine the insurer’s coverage decision. 14 46 29
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Underlying forms and compatibility: Is the incumbent cyber-only or Tech E&O, which excess program accepts it, and what is the attachment point? 40 17
- Contract wording: Identify the selected management components and exact IP provisions rather than supplying only product names and limits. 18 36 38
- Broker continuity: Record the scope of the appointment, Access eligibility and certificate/renewal responsibilities after any transfer. 2 31
- Renewal and total cost: Show the approval rule, any new-business application, policy fees and separate financing terms for each layer. 6 5 36
Service Comparison
Coverdash vs Embroker: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Coverdash | Embroker |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Coverdash is an insurance brokerage and online platform for small businesses, startups and e-commerce sellers. You can compare quotes, buy policies and manage coverage through its website or a partner’s embedded insurance service. 4,8,2 | Embroker is a business insurance broker and online platform for buying and managing coverage. It serves funded startups, technology companies, law firms, investment firms and other professional-services businesses. You can apply online or get help arranging insurance from its brokers. 28,29,31 |
| Application process | Coverdash’s public application begins with an email-address field. Its FAQ says to have your business name, address, industry, annual revenue and employee count ready; it describes online quote comparison and purchasing, with same-day coverage for most policies. 10,4 The FAQ says payment follows choosing and binding a policy, but the terms allow collecting payment before binding and later insurer rejection or repricing. Confirm the effective date and binding confirmation before relying on coverage. 4,2 Using the brokerage service means appointing Coverdash as broker or agent of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2 | The public quote-start screen asks for a company name and whether the company has a website. It links the terms and compensation disclosure before continuing. 53 An account alone does not appoint Embroker as your broker. Using its brokerage service requires a broker- or agent-of-record designation and exclusive work with Embroker for those services unless otherwise agreed. 29 An application may need additional underwriting information or be declined; a quote itself does not put insurance in force. 29 |
| Access to insurers | Coverdash advertises access to more than 40 carriers and displays names including Chubb, Travelers, Hiscox and Nationwide. It does not promise that every applicant will receive quotes from that entire panel. 1,8 Nationwide’s own agency directory lists Coverdash Insurance Services and links to coverdash.com, independently supporting that carrier relationship. The listing does not identify the insurer or terms for a particular Coverdash quote. 15 | Embroker names Everspan Indemnity Insurance Company as the insurer for EMIS and its excess Tech E&O/Cyber program. Its lawyers’ professional liability program names Everest National Insurance Company. These are product-specific relationships, not one carrier for the entire catalogue. 36,40,41,42 |
| Servicing and renewals | The public sign-in page describes resuming applications, reviewing policies and billing requests, downloading certificates and contacting an account manager. Coverdash’s FAQ directs customers through their account to request coverage changes or cancellation. 11,4 Coverdash’s certificate guide describes self-service PDF certificates, selection of multiple policies and an e-commerce marketplace template. It says requests for agent assistance can take up to two business days. 13 For policies whose billing and premium payment it facilitates, Coverdash’s renewal authorization permits automatic renewal with a premium increase of up to 20% if no material coverage terms change. Larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. 6 The authorization permits necessary renewal paperwork, including a new premium-finance agreement. Customers can opt out or request cancellation through the dashboard, with processing time; the insurer still decides whether to renew. 6 | EMIS replaces the two previous management-liability offerings for new customers. Embroker says existing policyholders can continue renewing their legacy products; switching to EMIS requires a new-business application. 36 The FAQ describes downloadable policies and certificates for accounts where Embroker is the broker of record. Custom certificate wording may require a policy endorsement first. 31 Renewals vary: some policies renew through the insurer, while others need a fresh application and underwriting. Embroker describes reviewing the proposal, accepting it and paying or arranging financing; the new policy’s effective date controls when the renewal begins. 31 If you move to another broker, Embroker says you lose account-based certificate issuance and policy-change functions. A replacement broker outside Embroker Access may also be unable to renew proprietary products. 31 |
| Fees and compensation | Coverdash discloses a Technology Access Fee on each purchased policy, in addition to policy charges, and calls it fully earned and nonrefundable. The disclosure does not give its amount. 5 Coverdash may receive insurer or payment-servicer commissions, performance-related contingent or supplemental commissions, and negotiated client fees. It also discloses affinity-referral and administrative-service income. 5 Coverdash’s help center identifies Ascend as its payment and premium-finance partner. It explains that financing pays the annual premium upfront while the customer repays in installments. Confirm the current lender, interest and fees in the payment agreement. 12,6 | Embroker’s software is free. Insurance services can generate insurer commissions, contingent compensation linked to business results, and supplemental commissions. Embroker may also negotiate client fees alongside or instead of commissions, approved before binding, usually in writing. 30 Payment processors and premium-finance lenders can add their own charges. Ask for the total cost and installment terms separately from Embroker’s compensation. 29 |
