Corgi vs Embroker

Compare Corgi’s startup packages with Embroker’s proprietary programs when AI coverage, higher limits and future broker changes matter.

Introduction

Corgi offers technology companies stage-based insurance packages, placing coverage through its agency with affiliated or partner insurers. 2 1 Embroker is a brokerage and online platform that also distributes proprietary programs directly and through other brokers using Embroker Access. Its Management Insurance Suite, or EMIS, combines several management coverages in one application, with technology errors and omissions (E&O)/cyber available for eligible technology businesses. 24 32 31

Both businesses offer a technology-focused starting point. Embroker documents particular program-transition and broker-transfer rules; Corgi emphasizes package upgrades as a startup grows. Those rules affect how the proposed program can accommodate a later product change, a larger customer limit and a future advisor. 26 31 2

Where Embroker Shines

  • Separate technology and law-firm packages group coverage around those businesses’ activities, subject to the offered policy terms. 39,38

Key Differences Between Corgi and Embroker

AI Features, Endorsements and Intellectual Property

an established software company adding AI-generated output to a service already insured for technology errors and omissions. Corgi markets a Tech & AI Liability module. Embroker describes an AI endorsement for qualifying technology E&O/cyber quotes. Ask whether the added activity is covered by the base definition of services, an endorsement or a separate agreement, and whether existing work remains within the policy’s terms. Neither an AI label nor a new product announcement answers those questions for an existing policy. 8 40

Embroker’s AI announcement identifies particular features, including algorithm-removal expenses, while also referring to its Startup Program. Its date and program references do not establish that every EMIS or legacy quote contains the same endorsement. Corgi’s AI page likewise supplies marketing scenarios rather than the complete issued wording. Request both proposed forms and an explanation of which activities, legal allegations and expenses they address. 40 31 8

Intellectual-property language deserves its own question if the software contract includes infringement obligations. Embroker’s retail page lists exclusions while its broker-program page advertises software-code infringement protection. The difference could reflect scope or product version; it cannot be resolved by selecting the more favorable description. Ask both providers for the actual treatment of code, generated output and contractual obligations, using the buyer’s activities rather than an assumption of broad AI coverage. 34 33 8

Primary Limits and Excess Technology Coverage

An expanding customer relationship may require more liability insurance than the current proposal supplies. Corgi says its dashboard supports adding or upgrading coverage. Embroker offers an excess technology E&O/cyber program, but that product has its own eligibility rules and requires underlying technology E&O; cyber-only underlying insurance does not qualify. An excess layer is additional insurance above the specified primary limit, not an automatic extension of any policy carrying the Embroker name. 2 35

The retail Tech E&O FAQ says Embroker’s excess product cannot sit above an Embroker primary policy. An Embroker primary buyer therefore needs a separate answer about how to obtain higher limits. 34

Ask Embroker how the proposed primary can reach the customer’s future limit requirement, and ask Corgi whether an increase would be an endorsement, replacement or separate excess placement. If considering Embroker excess above a Corgi policy, obtain confirmation for that exact primary form and insurer; the published excess program does not establish compatibility with Corgi. 35 2 1

Broker Access, Transfers and Program Changes

Embroker Access means a proprietary program may be available through an appointed outside broker. That can matter if the company expects a new finance leader to consolidate its insurance with an existing advisor. For Embroker’s own brokerage service, its terms require a broker-of-record designation and describe exclusivity unless otherwise agreed. Corgi offers an online or specialist-assisted buying route. Establish which advisor will handle the account and which products that advisor can actually access. 32 24 2

Embroker says moving to another broker removes account-based certificate and policy-change functions, and a non-Access broker may be unable to renew proprietary products. That does not mean the insurance immediately cancels. It means documents, service requests and the next renewal need a handoff plan. Corgi’s disclosed renewal provisions are policy-specific and do not establish identical transfer restrictions; ask how the proposed insurer and producer would handle a future advisor change. 26 1

A second transition can occur without changing brokers. Embroker says existing customers can renew legacy products but need a new-business application to move to EMIS. Compare that proposed replacement with the expiring form, especially prior-work and reporting treatment. Corgi’s stage upgrade should receive the same scrutiny: a package name changing after a funding round does not prove continuous coverage for earlier acts. 31 2 1

Issuing Insurers, Fees and Claims Contacts

Embroker identifies Everspan Indemnity for EMIS; that is a product-specific relationship. Corgi’s D&O example names Technology Risk Retention Group, which Corgi says has no AM Best rating and whose policies lack state guaranty-fund protection. Corgi also describes eligible admitted or partner alternatives. For a contract requiring rated or admitted insurance, compare the exact proposed legal insurers and their status; neither the Embroker nor Corgi brand supplies that answer for every product. 31 5 1 20

Both businesses disclose potential producer compensation. Embroker’s free software can accompany commissions and negotiated client fees; Corgi discloses possible insurer- or customer-paid commissions or fees. Budget for the complete primary/excess arrangement, payment charges and any retained policies rather than treating a free account as a price advantage. 25 24 1

Preserve claims instructions when changing products or brokers. Embroker directs active cyber events to the hotline in the policy; Corgi describes affiliated or third-party claims administration while the insurer retains responsibility for coverage and payment. Export those policy contacts before changing account access. These descriptions establish routes to assistance, not comparative settlement performance. 41 1

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • AI and infringement wording: base forms and endorsements identifying the actual EMIS or legacy version, insured services and any expense sublimits, alongside Corgi’s proposed technology form. 40 33 8
  • A limit-growth proposal: how the primary reaches a larger customer requirement, and any excess eligibility, exclusions and attachment conditions. 35 34 2
  • A continuity comparison: legacy renewal versus replacement, prior-work dates, reporting provisions and the future broker’s program access. 31 26 1
  • The service and cost handoff: who issues certificates after transfer, where claims go, total charges and named insurers meeting any contractual status requirement. 26 41 1

Service Comparison

Corgi vs Embroker: documented services and availability

CriteriaCorgiEmbroker
Customer focus

Corgi offers business insurance for technology companies and startups, with packages for pre-seed and seed, Series A, and growth-stage businesses, plus a custom option. 2,3,6,15

In August 2026, Corgi announced product filings for offices, retail, restaurants, personal services, self-storage, wholesalers, community associations, and small rental properties. Availability depends on the product and state. 9

Embroker is a business insurance broker and online platform for buying and managing coverage. It serves funded startups, technology companies, law firms, investment firms and other professional-services businesses. You can apply online or get help arranging insurance from its brokers. 23,24,26

Coverage lines

Corgi’s startup packages combine general liability, directors and officers, technology errors and omissions, cyber, media, employment practices, fiduciary, and hired and non-owned auto coverage. Its technology offering includes a Tech & AI Liability module. 2,8,10

Corgi’s D&O page describes claims-made coverage for directors, officers, and the company under form CORG-DO-0100, issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. The example has defense costs within the policy limit and a $25,000 per-claim retention—the portion of a claim you pay. Your quote and policy set the actual terms. 5

Risk retention groups can write business liability insurance for their members. They cannot provide other types of insurance, such as property coverage, so a package with those products needs another insurer. 19,21

Embroker’s August 2026 Management Insurance Suite (EMIS) brings D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability and, for eligible technology companies, Tech E&O/Cyber into one application. Buyers may select individual coverages or a bundle. 31

The broker Tech E&O/Cyber program targets private, for-profit technology companies with revenue below $300 million. It requires multifactor authentication for accounts above $5 million in revenue and excludes businesses involved in crypto, blockchain or cannabis. 33

Embroker’s retail Tech E&O page lists intellectual-property infringement, copyright and libel among exclusions, while its broker program advertises software-code infringement coverage. The public descriptions do not reconcile that difference; request the proposed form and endorsements for your activities. 34,33

Embroker describes an AI endorsement for eligible Tech E&O/Cyber quotes addressing AI services, discrimination allegations and regulatory-investigation defense. It advertises up to $150,000 for algorithm-removal expenses. Obtain the endorsement to check triggers, exclusions and how that sublimit relates to the policy limit. 40

Embroker Access advertises up to $5 million of excess Tech E&O/Cyber above eligible underlying insurance. Its appetite requires a primary limit of at least $1 million and Tech E&O, with or without cyber; cyber-only underlying insurance is ineligible. 35

The retail Tech E&O FAQ says Embroker’s excess product cannot sit above an Embroker primary policy. An Embroker primary buyer therefore needs a separate answer about how to obtain higher limits. 34

The broker lawyers’ professional liability (LPL) program lists firms with 1–25 attorneys, no claims or law-license disciplinary actions, a physical address and risk-management and docket controls. It advertises pre-claim assistance without a deductible and defense-cost options. 36

The public Everest LPL specimen uses claims-made coverage: its insuring agreement ties protection to when a claim is made and reported and to a retroactive date for the underlying work. Its base wording makes claim expenses reduce the liability limit. Current marketing also describes defense costs outside the limit, so check which endorsements your quote includes. 37,36

The main catalogue offers business owner’s policies, general liability, commercial crime, cyber, D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability, professional liability (including lawyers’ liability), Tech E&O/Cyber and workers’ compensation. 30

Embroker also has direct offerings for commercial auto, commercial property, product liability, surety bonds and key person life insurance, plus venture capital asset protection (VCAP) for investment firms. 43,44,46,45,42,47

The technology package combines Tech E&O/Cyber with a business owner’s policy. The law-firm package groups lawyers’ professional liability, cyber, a business owner’s policy and workers’ compensation. The package names do not establish identical terms across industries. 39,38

Servicing and renewals

Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as they raise funding, hire, or sign larger contracts. Renewal and cancellation terms depend on the policy and state rules. 2,1

EMIS replaces the two previous management-liability offerings for new customers. Embroker says existing policyholders can continue renewing their legacy products; switching to EMIS requires a new-business application. 31

The FAQ describes downloadable policies and certificates for accounts where Embroker is the broker of record. Custom certificate wording may require a policy endorsement first. 26

Renewals vary: some policies renew through the insurer, while others need a fresh application and underwriting. Embroker describes reviewing the proposal, accepting it and paying or arranging financing; the new policy’s effective date controls when the renewal begins. 26

If you move to another broker, Embroker says you lose account-based certificate issuance and policy-change functions. A replacement broker outside Embroker Access may also be unable to renew proprietary products. 26

Fees and compensation

Corgi Insurance Services may receive commissions or fees from the insurer or the customer. You can ask for the type and amount of compensation on your policy. 1

Corgi lists typical annual prices of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed and seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A companies. Your price depends on the business, state, coverage, limits, and other underwriting details. 2,6,7

Embroker’s software is free. Insurance services can generate insurer commissions, contingent compensation linked to business results, and supplemental commissions. Embroker may also negotiate client fees alongside or instead of commissions, approved before binding, usually in writing. 25

Payment processors and premium-finance lenders can add their own charges. Ask for the total cost and installment terms separately from Embroker’s compensation. 24

Claims assistance

Corgi describes a claims team that helps with reporting an incident, documentation, legal coordination, and progress updates. An affiliated team or third-party administrator may handle the claim; the insurer named in the policy remains responsible for coverage decisions and payment. 1,2,12

Embroker directs customers to their account’s Claims tab for reporting instructions. For an active cyber event, it says to use the hotline in the policy; other claims can be reported to the insurer using policy contacts. 41

The claims page promises a written coverage determination within 30 days of reporting, but its FAQ gives no fixed time to resolve a claim. A coverage decision is not a payment deadline, and the website statement is not independent evidence of claims performance. 41
