Alliance Risk vs Corgi

Comparing a broker-led startup placement with Corgi’s stage-based packages when an investor specifies insurer requirements.

Introduction

A seed company choosing insurance before a financing close needs more than a package with the right coverage names. Alliance Risk offers startup brokerage and review of existing technology errors and omissions policies; Corgi organizes startup insurance into funding-stage packages sold through its agency. The choice becomes concrete when the investor’s insurance exhibit specifies the kind of insurer it will accept. 1 10 13 12

Key Differences Between Alliance Risk and Corgi

Start with the Investor’s Insurer Requirement

Corgi’s agency uses affiliated and partner insurers. Its published D&O example identifies Technology Risk Retention Group, while its disclosures describe admitted-carrier alternatives for eligible risks. Alliance Risk describes startup placements in admitted and excess-and-surplus-lines markets without naming the insurer for a California buyer. Ask each to identify the proposed paper before treating its quote as contract-compliant. 16 12 1

For a Corgi proposal issued by the risk retention group, the company discloses no AM Best rating, and risk retention group policies do not have state guaranty-fund protection. Those qualifications do not apply automatically to every Corgi placement. Conversely, Alliance Risk’s access to multiple market types does not prove it can obtain the investor’s requested insurer status for this account. 12 31 1

Package Selection or Review of What You Already Bought

Corgi’s stage-based packages offer a starting structure for a company buying several lines together. Alliance Risk’s no-charge technology E&O review starts with the existing policy, including retroactive dates and possible gaps, and its submission requests major customer contracts. For a startup that already bought coverage to land its first customer, the useful comparison is what each proposal preserves or changes—not simply the new package’s total price. 13 10

Corgi says its dashboard supports upgrades as funding, hiring and contracts change. Alliance Risk advertises online access, but the reviewed public service pages do not establish an equivalent endorsement workflow or renewal timetable. Ask both how a new director or larger customer requirement gets translated into approved policy documents. 13 8 7

Separate a Fast Quote from Coverage at Closing

Corgi markets same-day purchasing for eligible applicants, subject to its issuance and binder conditions. Alliance Risk’s general quote page and technology page give different turnaround estimates. Neither public timeline should become a promise to the investor without written binding instructions. Alliance Risk also has an unresolved conflict between nationwide startup marketing and selected-state terms; its published California license identifier is not a verified product route. 12 13 6 1 3 5

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which insurer meets the investor’s admitted-status and rating requirements, and does the proposed Corgi policy use RRG or alternative paper?
  • What prior work, retroactive dates and customer contracts survive a move from the current E&O policy?
  • Who approves midterm changes, and what document confirms coverage before the funding closes?
  • What producer compensation and additional charges apply? Both disclose possible fees or commissions; neither online access nor a free review establishes a fee-free placement. 12 3

Service Comparison

Alliance Risk vs Corgi: documented services and availability

CriteriaAlliance RiskCorgi
Business role

Alliance Risk describes itself as an independent commercial insurance brokerage and risk advisor. Its terms and privacy policy identify Alliance Risk Insurance Services LLC as the subsidiary agency. 2,3,4

The terms name Alliance Risk Holding Company LLC, while the privacy policy names Alliance Risk, Inc. as the parent. The reviewed disclosures do not resolve that naming discrepancy. 3,4

Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. 12,13,15

Access to insurers

Alliance Risk reports using admitted and excess-and-surplus-lines markets for startups. The reviewed technology, quote and legal pages do not identify the insurer that would issue a California buyer’s policy. 1,6,3

Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 12

Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 28,12,14,13,29,30

A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 29,30,32

For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 12,14,13,20

Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 12,16

Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 20,33

Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 31,13,12

Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 12,25

Application process

The quote page starts with a contact request for company, website, contact details and a message. It advertises a free, no-obligation quote; the visible form does not provide a bindable offer. 6

For technology E&O, Alliance Risk requests service details, revenue, employee count, major client contracts, existing coverage, five-year claims history and customer concentration. It says it reviews the current program and approaches specialist carriers. 10

The general quote page advertises a quote within 24 hours, while the technology page gives 48–72 hours for standard software risks and five to ten business days for hardware, fintech, healthtech and AI. Treat timing as company estimates, not a binding deadline. 6,1

You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 13,12

Servicing and renewals

Alliance Risk offers a no-charge review of existing technology E&O policies, including gaps, retroactive dates and market alternatives. This is a company-described service, not evidence of review quality. 10

Alliance Risk advertises online program access and 24/7 support. Its contact page lists weekday telephone hours of 9am–6pm EST; an after-hours response commitment and renewal timetable were not established in those pages. 8,7

Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as they raise funding, hire, or sign larger contracts. Renewal and cancellation terms depend on the policy and state rules. 13,12
