Amelia Risk vs
Mylo
Compare a product brand’s insurance placement with small-business shopping and benefits support for its first employees.
Introduction
A consumer brand making its first hires may need employee benefits at the same time it reviews inventory and product liability. Amelia Risk markets commercial brokerage programs for startups and product businesses. Mylo combines small-business insurance shopping with a separate small-group benefits offering. These are related purchasing tasks, but they need distinct coverage and service decisions. 5 8 29 42

Key Differences Between Amelia Risk and Mylo
Benefits and Commercial Insurance Have Separate Requirements
Mylo markets benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision and other options, with a benefits advisor and HR portal. Amelia's startup and consumer-product pages emphasize commercial lines such as D&O, workers compensation, recall and cargo. That difference identifies what to ask each team to coordinate; the absence of benefits from those Amelia pages is not proof that no referral or arrangement is possible. 42 5 8
A Shopping Panel Is Not a Product Program
Mylo says it compares available quotes from multiple insurers, with an agent finalizing most purchases. Its BOP description combines liability, property and business interruption. Amelia's stock-throughput and recall pages address goods moving through storage and transit and the costs of a withdrawal. Request those terms explicitly rather than assume a BOP or a broad shopping panel resolves them. 29 33 11 12
Mylo began within Lockton but now identifies Group 1001 as its backer; historical affiliation should not be used to describe the current servicing team or insurer. The producer and actual issuing carrier belong on the proposal regardless of the corporate history. 30 44 45
Decide Where Routine Requests Go
Mylo publishes carrier-specific service and claims contacts, with its own service team as a fallback. Amelia describes ongoing brokerage support and claims advocacy. For a lean employer, compare who handles a change involving both payroll and the commercial policy, rather than assume benefits enrollment updates every insurance record automatically. 32 4
What to Confirm in Quotes
Request separate benefits and commercial proposals, including plan eligibility, advisor responsibilities and compensation. Ask how inventory, recall and product liability will be placed, who processes midterm payroll changes, and which insurer receives claims. Confirm the legal producer and California availability for each product, not just the benefits or brokerage relationship overall.
Service Comparison
Amelia Risk vs Mylo: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Amelia Risk | Mylo |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Amelia Risk presents itself as an independent, women-owned insurance brokerage—not as an insurer. It says it identifies a company’s risks, discusses insurance products, represents the buyer to insurers, and recommends a program. The official pages reviewed do not name a licensed producer entity suffix, license number, or NPN. 1,2,4,20,19 | Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 29,30 Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 30,44,45 Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 29,31,46,47 Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 43,44 |
| Coverage lines | Amelia Risk publishes an Insurance Policies catalogue covering general liability and umbrella or excess, stock throughput (cargo), product recall, directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), workers compensation, cyber, and technology errors and omissions (Tech E&O). Specialty pages also list product liability, fiduciary liability, professional liability, a businessowner’s policy (BOP) with property, general liability, and hired and non-owned auto, owned and hired/non-owned auto, and employee crime as policies those clients should consider. Those labels are the firm’s marketed placement topics; they are not specimen forms, and they do not establish that every line is available to every applicant. 9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,5,6,7,8 | Mylo’s current commercial catalogue lists business owner’s policies, commercial auto, general liability, cyber, medical malpractice, professional liability, surety bonds, commercial umbrella and workers’ compensation. 29,33,34,35,36,37,38,39,40,41 Mylo describes a business owner’s policy as combining general liability, commercial property and business-interruption coverage. The actual causes of loss, property, locations, limits and interruption period depend on the offered policy. 29,33 Mylo’s commercial-auto page describes bodily-injury and property-damage liability, with collision, comprehensive and non-owned-auto coverage as possible components depending on the business and vehicles. 34 For medical professionals, Mylo markets claims-made and occurrence malpractice policies and says tail coverage can extend reporting under a claims-made policy. Its page treats cyber liability as separate coverage to add rather than a protection supplied by malpractice insurance alone. 37 Mylo markets small-group benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, accident and critical-illness options. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and help from a licensed benefits advisor. 42 The reviewed public product pages do not provide current specimen policies, endorsements or a complete schedule of limits, deductibles, exclusions and state variations. Those terms must be checked in the actual quote and policy forms. 29,37,31 |
| Application process | New business starts with a conversation or website contact form, not a public self-service binder. Amelia Risk describes four steps: understand the company and gather information; represent the buyer to insurers; review quotes and a recommendation with the client; then the client decides how to proceed. About copy says the firm will not ask clients to complete multiple PDFs or Word documents only to print, sign, and scan them back. A company-hosted interview describes D&O underwriting as possibly a matter of days or a few weeks with completed information, with a two-to-three-week comfortable budget—an illustrative timing comment, not a binding SLA. No public quote calculator or specimen application was found. 4,18,2,5,20,22 | A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 29,31 Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 31 |
| Access to insurers | Amelia Risk says it represents clients to the dozens of insurance companies with which it works and that its vertical focus supports relationships with underwriters, wholesale brokers, and carrier partners. The reviewed pages do not name those insurers, rating agencies, or program administrators, and they do not publish appointment lists. 4,2,21 | Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 29,32 Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 29,32,31 |
| Fees and compensation | The reviewed official pages do not disclose broker commissions, contingent commissions, client fees, retainers, or premium examples. A 2021 blog post invites a free consultation. Absence of a published fee schedule is not evidence that insurance placement is free. 1,2,4,18,19,20,21 | Mylo says its guided shopping service is free and that 95% of customers do not pay Mylo a fee when purchasing. It generally earns a carrier commission; in fewer than 5% of transactions, it says it charges a fee when it handles billing and incurs higher administrative costs. The reviewed disclosure does not give the fee amount. 30 |
