Mylo vs Travelers

When Mylo’s multi-carrier small-business brokerage, which names Travelers among examples, differs from buying Travelers through another appointed producer.

Introduction

A retail shop owner comparing Mylo’s guided shopping with a neighbor’s Travelers agency may be choosing between two producers for overlapping markets, not two underwriters. Mylo, LLC recommends coverage and compares available insurer quotes; Travelers underwrites its own affiliates. Mylo launched inside Lockton in 2015 but Group 1001 is its current backer per Mylo and 2023 reporting—Group 1001 ownership does not mean a Group 1001 insurer issues your policy. 1 2 27

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Mylo Shines

  • Buyers can shop online or with a licensed advisor; Mylo says it compares available quotes, with an agent finalizing most policies. 1,3
  • Employers with 2–99 employees can explore group benefits with a licensed advisor and a year-round HR portal. 14

Where Travelers Shines

  • Travelers markets technology insurance to startups and established tech companies, with CyberRisk Tech that can combine cyber and technology E&O. 21,24,22
  • U.S. business insurance is sold through independent agents; many small risks can be quoted and issued in an agent platform, while specialty technology accounts still need underwriting. 26,43,21,23,49,42

Key Differences Between Mylo and Travelers Insurance

Digital Broker Versus Insurer Group

Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 1,3,18,19

Travelers is a property-casualty insurance group. The Travelers Companies, Inc. is the public holding company; policies are issued by subsidiaries such as The Travelers Indemnity Company and affiliates, not by the holding company itself. 48,49,41,27

Mylo says some carrier combinations can be purchased online but an agent finalizes most policies. Travelers sells business insurance through independent agents, with Select Accounts automation described for many small risks. A Mylo proposal that names Travelers and a proposal from another Travelers agent would be two producer paths to the same carrier brand—only if Travelers actually appears as the issuing insurer. 1 49

Carrier Panel Versus Travelers Paper

Mylo names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox among more than 40 commercial partners. That panel does not establish which insurers will quote your business. Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. Travelers footers name The Travelers Indemnity Company and affiliates by product. 1 1 27

Mylo also markets small-group employee benefits. Travelers technology pages reviewed here are property-casualty marketing, not a benefits shopping flow. 1 21

Commercial Catalogue, Fees and Claims Routing

Mylo’s commercial catalogue includes BOP, general liability, workers compensation, commercial auto, cyber, professional liability, medical malpractice, umbrella and surety bonds. Travelers technology pages emphasize CyberRisk Tech, property, workers compensation, commercial auto and umbrella plus management-liability lines on other pages. Catalogues are not guaranteed availability. 1 21

Mylo says 95% of customers pay no Mylo fee and it generally earns carrier commission; fewer than 5% pay a fee when Mylo handles billing. Travelers discloses producer compensation without buyer fee tables. Mylo publishes carrier-specific claims contacts; Travelers lists 800-238-6225 and online reporting—follow the insurer named on your declarations. 2 4 27 36

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Whether Mylo is broker of record and whether the proposal names a Travelers affiliate. 1 26
  • Issuing Travelers affiliate if Travelers appears on a Mylo proposal versus another bound carrier. 45
  • Embedded partner path if you entered through a non-Mylo website—identify the producer. 15
  • Mylo administrative fee if Mylo bills the policy. 2
  • Medical malpractice or benefits lines that Travelers technology pages do not list. 9 21

Service Comparison

Mylo vs Travelers Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaMyloTravelers
Business role

Mylo describes itself as an independent insurance broker for small and growing businesses. It recommends coverage and compares available quotes from multiple insurers rather than issuing its own policies. 1,2

Mylo says it launched within Lockton Companies in 2015 and now has Group 1001 as its backer. A May 2023 Kansas City Business Journal report said Group 1001 became the majority investor and Mylo was no longer part of Lockton; the reviewed sources did not provide a newer ownership percentage. 2,16,17

Mylo, LLC operates the website and is the named insurance agency. Its footer identifies Mylo Insurance Solutions, LLC as a trade name in California, Illinois, Michigan and North Dakota, and Mylo Solutions, LLC as a trade name in New York. 1,3,18,19

Mylo also supplies an embedded insurance-shopping service to other companies and insurance agencies. A buyer entering through a partner should identify whether Mylo, the partner or another licensed entity is the producer for the transaction. 15,16

Travelers is a property-casualty insurance group. The Travelers Companies, Inc. is the public holding company; policies are issued by subsidiaries such as The Travelers Indemnity Company and affiliates, not by the holding company itself. 48,49,41,27

Travelers says it primarily sells U.S. insurance through independent agents and brokers, whom it calls producers and who are not Travelers employees. It also owns Simply Business, Inc. and InsuraMatch, LLC, licensed digital independent agencies it says operate nationwide. 27,26,49

Access to insurers

Mylo says its commercial brokerage works with more than 40 carrier partners and names Travelers, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford and Hiscox as examples. That panel does not establish which insurers will consider or quote a particular business. 1,4

Mylo’s public pages do not provide a complete product-and-state schedule of issuing insurers. The carrier contact directory names companies used for some customers, but the legal insurer for each proposed policy must be confirmed in the quote and policy documents. 1,4,3

Travelers is the brand. Product footers name The Travelers Indemnity Company and its property-casualty affiliates, and Bond & Specialty pages name Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America and affiliates. Umbrella materials also describe Northfield excess-and-surplus coverage for some hard-to-place risks. The issuing company, admitted or surplus status, and any fronting or network partner remain quote-specific. 27,45,29,46,39

Coverage lines

Mylo’s current commercial catalogue lists business owner’s policies, commercial auto, general liability, cyber, medical malpractice, professional liability, surety bonds, commercial umbrella and workers’ compensation. 1,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13

Mylo describes a business owner’s policy as combining general liability, commercial property and business-interruption coverage. The actual causes of loss, property, locations, limits and interruption period depend on the offered policy. 1,5

Mylo’s commercial-auto page describes bodily-injury and property-damage liability, with collision, comprehensive and non-owned-auto coverage as possible components depending on the business and vehicles. 6

For medical professionals, Mylo markets claims-made and occurrence malpractice policies and says tail coverage can extend reporting under a claims-made policy. Its page treats cyber liability as separate coverage to add rather than a protection supplied by malpractice insurance alone. 9

Mylo markets small-group benefits to employers with 2–99 employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, accident and critical-illness options. It describes online or phone enrollment, a year-round HR portal and help from a licensed benefits advisor. 14

The reviewed public product pages do not provide current specimen policies, endorsements or a complete schedule of limits, deductibles, exclusions and state variations. Those terms must be checked in the actual quote and policy forms. 1,9,3

On its technology pages, Travelers lists CyberRisk Tech (technology E&O and cyber options, including media and regulatory-proceedings agreements on the cyber page), Global Companion Plus+, general liability, commercial property, workers compensation, commercial auto and umbrella. Other current offering pages list a small-business technology-services BOP, management-liability lines (D&O, EPL, fiduciary, fidelity and crime, kidnap and ransom), professional E&O, inland marine including cargo, equipment breakdown, surety and commercial umbrella/excess including a Northfield surplus-lines option. 21,23,22,28,47,33,35,34,46

Application process

A business buyer can answer questions about the company and industry online or work by phone with a licensed advisor. Mylo says its system recommends coverage and compares available quotes; some carrier and coverage combinations can be purchased online, but an agent finalizes the policy in most cases. 1,3

Mylo’s Terms of Use say a purchase may carry additional transaction terms, require accurate and complete application answers and is not guaranteed to result in an issued policy. The posted site terms were last updated in November 2018, so buyers should review the current terms presented with a quote. 3

Travelers tells business buyers to get a quote through an independent agent, using a public agency locator. Its 2025 Form 10-K says Select Accounts uses an automated underwriting platform so agents can quote, bind and issue a substantial amount of small-business risks, while more complex risks are underwritten with company personnel. Technology and CyberRisk Tech pages likewise tell buyers to consult an agent or Travelers representative; a direct public bind path for technology packages was not found on the reviewed pages. 26,43,21,23,49,42

Claims assistance

Mylo publishes carrier-specific support and claims contacts and directs customers to the insurer for many service needs. If a carrier is not listed, the page gives a Mylo Service Professional number; it does not promise that Mylo decides or pays claims. 4

Travelers says business-insurance losses can be reported 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by contacting the agent, using the online claim system or MyTravelers for Business, or calling 800-238-6225. It describes a dedicated Technology claim unit staffed since 1998 with claim attorneys and insurance professionals. Those statements describe access paths and an internal unit; they do not establish claim outcomes or coverage decisions. 36,37,26
