TechInsurance vs Travelers

Comparing a Travelers technology proposal with TechInsurance shopping when a software company adds international customers or entities.

Introduction

A company moving beyond domestic software contracts may receive a Travelers technology proposal while shopping through TechInsurance. Travelers is already on TechInsurance’s published partner list. The useful question is whether the proposals involve the same product and how either addresses the company’s foreign exposure, not simply which brand to choose. 8 13

Where Each Provider Shines

Where TechInsurance Shines

  • One application to compare multiple insurance quotes 2
  • Technology E&O and cyber coverage marketed together 7

Where Travelers Shines

  • Travelers markets technology insurance to startups and established tech companies, with CyberRisk Tech that can combine cyber and technology E&O. 13,16,14
  • U.S. business insurance is sold through independent agents; many small risks can be quoted and issued in an agent platform, while specialty technology accounts still need underwriting. 18,35,13,15,41,34

Key Differences Between TechInsurance and Travelers

CyberRisk Tech and Global Coverage Are Different Decisions

Travelers markets CyberRisk Tech with technology E&O, cyber, media and related agreements. Its global offering addresses a different set of international risks. TechInsurance describes an E&O/cyber bundle but does not specify a universal insurer form. Ask for a policy map showing which contracts, locations and activities fall under each proposed coverage. 15 31 7

Travelers describes its US Global Companion Plus+ product as non-admitted and distinguishes global solutions from controlled master programs. Its international network description is not evidence that a local admitted policy is included for every foreign entity. A startup selling abroad and one employing people abroad should describe their operations precisely before comparing proposals. 31 32

An Agent Platform Is Not the Consumer Shopping Flow

Travelers directs business buyers to independent agents. Its filing describes automated issuance for many small risks, with more complex accounts underwritten by company personnel. TechInsurance’s public application offers multi-insurer comparison. Neither establishes that this technology and international submission will bind immediately, or that TechInsurance can access every Travelers product. 18 41 2 8

The shared Travelers record includes California regulator evidence for two insurers, while TechInsurance publishes its producer licensing disclosure. These answer different questions. Insurer authorization does not settle product eligibility, and a producer license does not identify the legal issuer. 42 43 4

Portal Features Follow the Account Segment

MyTravelers offers policy and claims tools, but its real-time certificate features have account-segment restrictions. TechInsurance offers account-manager assistance and certificates. If a customer contract requires a change, confirm whether the insurer portal or broker handles it and whether the requested action changes coverage or merely documents it. 30 3

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Identify the CyberRisk Tech form and any separate international policy, local placements and territorial conditions. 15 32 7
  • Establish whether the TechInsurance quote reaches the same Travelers product and issuing company as the other proposal. 8 19
  • Confirm portal eligibility, endorsement ownership and producer compensation across the selected route. 30 19 10

Service Comparison

TechInsurance vs Travelers: documented services and availability

CriteriaTechInsuranceTravelers
Business role

TechInsurance is a small-business insurance agency and brokerage. Its legal disclosure identifies the business as a division of Specialty Program Group LLC, doing business in California as SPG Insurance Solutions. 3,9,10

TechInsurance describes itself as part of Insureon and HUB International. Its history says HUB acquired Insureon’s digital agency in 2022 while Bold Penguin acquired the technology platform; HUB’s acquisition announcement placed the agency operations within Specialty Program Group. 2,3,12

Travelers is a property-casualty insurance group. The Travelers Companies, Inc. is the public holding company; policies are issued by subsidiaries such as The Travelers Indemnity Company and affiliates, not by the holding company itself. 40,41,33,19

Travelers says it primarily sells U.S. insurance through independent agents and brokers, whom it calls producers and who are not Travelers employees. It also owns Simply Business, Inc. and InsuraMatch, LLC, licensed digital independent agencies it says operate nationwide. 19,18,41

Availability

TechInsurance’s California sales page offers an application and quote-comparison route for general liability, professional E&O, business owner’s policies, workers’ compensation, cyber, commercial auto, fidelity bonds and umbrella coverage. This establishes a marketed California route, not acceptance of a particular startup or availability of every listed product. 5

TechInsurance reports licensing in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and lists California license 0L09546. Current regulator status, authority and appointments were not independently verified for this profile. 4

Travelers describes Business Insurance as offered primarily in the United States, with additional operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and other markets including Lloyd’s. Domestic business insurance is marketed through independent agents and brokers rather than as a single nationwide self-serve shop for every product. 41,40,33

California’s insurance department lists The Travelers Indemnity Company (NAIC 25658) and Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America (NAIC 31194) as property-and-casualty insurers with Unlimited-Normal licenses. Travelers’ agent directory also lists agencies in California. Those facts do not establish that a specific technology product, CyberRisk Tech form, BOP class or Global Companion Plus+ coverage is available or admitted for a particular California risk. 42,43,36,31

Access to insurers

TechInsurance names insurance partners including The Hartford, Hiscox, Chubb and Travelers. These are examples of marketed relationships, not the identified contracting insurer for a quote; ask for the exact issuing entity and its California placement route. 8

Travelers is the brand. Product footers name The Travelers Indemnity Company and its property-casualty affiliates, and Bond & Specialty pages name Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America and affiliates. Umbrella materials also describe Northfield excess-and-surplus coverage for some hard-to-place risks. The issuing company, admitted or surplus status, and any fronting or network partner remain quote-specific. 19,37,21,38,31

Application process

TechInsurance describes a single application for comparing multiple insurance quotes, followed by policy purchase and online coverage management, with licensed-agent guidance available. 2

TechInsurance’s account instructions warn that quotes may take time to appear after an application is submitted; an application is not confirmation of bound coverage. 3

Travelers tells business buyers to get a quote through an independent agent, using a public agency locator. Its 2025 Form 10-K says Select Accounts uses an automated underwriting platform so agents can quote, bind and issue a substantial amount of small-business risks, while more complex risks are underwritten with company personnel. Technology and CyberRisk Tech pages likewise tell buyers to consult an agent or Travelers representative; a direct public bind path for technology packages was not found on the reviewed pages. 18,35,13,15,41,34

Servicing and renewals

TechInsurance says it provides a dedicated account manager and online certificate access. Its instructions require an active policy for a certificate request and direct urgent requests to the account manager. 1,3

The reviewed About and Contact pages do not establish a renewal remarketing schedule, a contractual response-time commitment, or the scope of dedicated support for a complex growth-stage insurance program. 2,3

MyTravelers for Business is described as an account portal for paying bills, reporting and tracking claims, retrieving policy documents and printing auto ID cards. Certificates of insurance and adding additional interests while creating a certificate are described as available in real time only for certain Select Accounts and National Programs Commercial Multi-Peril customers. Contact-us copy tells business policyholders to contact their agent for policy-service questions. 30,18
