Key Differences Between Alliance Risk and TechInsurance
A Shared Application and a Policy Review Solve Different Parts of the Job
TechInsurance markets technology E&O as E&O and cyber liability together. That label does not establish identical first-party cyber protection or contractual-liability wording across the quotes returned. Its account instructions also acknowledge that quotes may take time to appear. The online entry point is not a promise of immediately bound insurance. 18 14
Alliance Risk’s technology E&O page describes reviewing gaps and retroactive dates and gathering contracts, revenue, employees and claims information before approaching markets. For an existing policyholder, that is a useful comparison assignment: ask both agencies to explain continuity and the contract provisions that affect the proposed form, alongside premium and limits. 10
TechInsurance’s Corporate Route Is Part of the Comparison
TechInsurance identifies itself as part of Insureon and HUB International. Its disclosed operating division sits within Specialty Program Group LLC, doing business in California as SPG Insurance Solutions. The historical acquisition split placed the digital agency within HUB while Bold Penguin acquired the technology platform; none of those relationships makes the parent or platform the policy insurer. 13 20 21 23
TechInsurance also has a California sales page with a quote-comparison route for specified business lines. Alliance Risk’s company-published California producer identifier is separate evidence from its unresolved national-versus-selected-state marketing. In either process, the final proposal should identify the producer and issuing insurer for the policy being offered. 16 5 3 1
Define the Support That Continues After Purchase
TechInsurance describes an account manager and online certificate access for active policies, with urgent requests directed to the manager. Its reviewed About and Contact pages do not establish a complex-program renewal timetable. Alliance Risk advertises online access and policy review, but those descriptions also leave the ongoing response and renewal commitments to be agreed. 14 13 8 10
For the market comparison itself, SPG’s linked compensation disclosure deserves attention: it allows client fees and describes enhanced compensation from strategic insurers, some of which can incentivize employee prioritization. Alliance Risk also permits fees and commissions. Ask which markets were approached and how each proposed placement is compensated; the disclosure is not evidence that any particular quote is unsuitable. 21 3
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Will an agent review the actual customer contract, and will the resulting exclusions, retroactive date and cyber sections be explained in writing?
- Which insurers produced quotes, which were approached without a quote, and what limits or forms differ between the options?
- Who is accountable for urgent certificates, renewal remarketing and changes when the company outgrows the initial small-business placement?
- What producer, California placement route, client fees and carrier compensation apply to the chosen quote, including any strategic-carrier arrangement?
Service Comparison
Alliance Risk vs TechInsurance: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Alliance Risk | TechInsurance |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Alliance Risk describes itself as an independent commercial insurance brokerage and risk advisor. Its terms and privacy policy identify Alliance Risk Insurance Services LLC as the subsidiary agency. 2,3,4 The terms name Alliance Risk Holding Company LLC, while the privacy policy names Alliance Risk, Inc. as the parent. The reviewed disclosures do not resolve that naming discrepancy. 3,4 | TechInsurance is a small-business insurance agency and brokerage. Its legal disclosure identifies the business as a division of Specialty Program Group LLC, doing business in California as SPG Insurance Solutions. 14,20,21 TechInsurance describes itself as part of Insureon and HUB International. Its history says HUB acquired Insureon’s digital agency in 2022 while Bold Penguin acquired the technology platform; HUB’s acquisition announcement placed the agency operations within Specialty Program Group. 13,14,23 |
| Application process | The quote page starts with a contact request for company, website, contact details and a message. It advertises a free, no-obligation quote; the visible form does not provide a bindable offer. 6 For technology E&O, Alliance Risk requests service details, revenue, employee count, major client contracts, existing coverage, five-year claims history and customer concentration. It says it reviews the current program and approaches specialist carriers. 10 The general quote page advertises a quote within 24 hours, while the technology page gives 48–72 hours for standard software risks and five to ten business days for hardware, fintech, healthtech and AI. Treat timing as company estimates, not a binding deadline. 6,1 | TechInsurance describes a single application for comparing multiple insurance quotes, followed by policy purchase and online coverage management, with licensed-agent guidance available. 13 TechInsurance’s account instructions warn that quotes may take time to appear after an application is submitted; an application is not confirmation of bound coverage. 14 |
| Availability | Alliance Risk publishes California license number 6014559 and producer NPN 21240567. These are company disclosures; current regulator status, authorized lines and the insurer or surplus-lines route for a California startup remain unverified. 5,8 The technology page says Alliance Risk places startup insurance in all 50 states, but section 4 of its terms limits products and services to selected states. Confirm California availability for each requested line. 1,3 | TechInsurance’s California sales page offers an application and quote-comparison route for general liability, professional E&O, business owner’s policies, workers’ compensation, cyber, commercial auto, fidelity bonds and umbrella coverage. This establishes a marketed California route, not acceptance of a particular startup or availability of every listed product. 16 TechInsurance reports licensing in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and lists California license 0L09546. Current regulator status, authority and appointments were not independently verified for this profile. 15 |
| Servicing and renewals | Alliance Risk offers a no-charge review of existing technology E&O policies, including gaps, retroactive dates and market alternatives. This is a company-described service, not evidence of review quality. 10 Alliance Risk advertises online program access and 24/7 support. Its contact page lists weekday telephone hours of 9am–6pm EST; an after-hours response commitment and renewal timetable were not established in those pages. 8,7 | TechInsurance says it provides a dedicated account manager and online certificate access. Its instructions require an active policy for a certificate request and direct urgent requests to the account manager. 12,14 The reviewed About and Contact pages do not establish a renewal remarketing schedule, a contractual response-time commitment, or the scope of dedicated support for a complex growth-stage insurance program. 13,14 |
| Fees and compensation | Alliance Risk’s terms allow service, installment, cancellation and flat fees, and fees or commissions from insurers or other third parties. The terms do not state amounts or commission rates. A free quote does not establish free ongoing service. 3,6 | TechInsurance directs buyers to SPG’s compensation disclosure, which describes insurer commissions, contingent and supplemental payments, and possible negotiated client fees. Some placements may involve both commission and client-paid fees; quote-specific amounts are not disclosed there. 20,21 SPG discloses that strategic insurers may pay enhanced compensation and that some of it may incentivize employees to prioritize those insurers’ products. Ask which markets were approached and how the placement is compensated. 21 |
