CFC vs Corgi

Compare a broker-submitted CFC technology package with Corgi’s stage-based startup packages and different insurer structures.

Introduction

A seed-stage company collecting insurance requirements from both a customer and a new director has two decisions to make: which policies answer the requirements, and which legal entities stand behind them. CFC offers a broker-submitted technology package, while Corgi presents packages organized by startup stage through its agency. Those are different ways to assemble a proposal, not proof that either package covers every obligation. 2 3 31 30

Where Each Provider Shines

Where CFC Shines

  • Technology E&O, cyber and media in a package 2
  • Cyber threat monitoring and 24/7 incident support 7

Where Corgi Shines

  • Stage-based packages give technology startups a starting point from pre-seed through growth, with a custom option. 31,32,35,44
  • Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as funding, hiring and contract requirements change. 31,30

Key Differences Between CFC and Corgi

A Technology Contract and a Board Request Need Separate Answers

CFC’s technology brochure combines E&O, cyber and media/IP exposures with general liability. Corgi’s startup packages also name board and employment coverages, organized around funding stages. Use that difference to request a coverage-by-obligation proposal: the customer’s software-failure requirement and the director’s personal-liability concern should not disappear inside one package label. 2 31

For a California-domiciled business, CFC’s management-liability brochure specifically lists that domicile among declined risks. This is not a finding about CFC technology eligibility. Corgi’s published producer-license list likewise is not a product approval list. Resolve the board placement separately before comparing a combined annual price. 11 33

The Insurer Structure Matters More Than the Brand Label

Corgi’s public D&O page identifies Technology Risk Retention Group for its described form. Its canonical research distinguishes that RRG from the company-announced admitted Corgi Insurance Company and other partner paper. Ask which route your actual quote uses; an admitted-carrier announcement should not be applied to an RRG policy. 34 38 30

Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 49,31,30

CFC’s disclosures identify its underwriting and producer entities and Syndicate 1988, but do not establish the insurer for this California technology quote. Comparing CFC with “Corgi” therefore requires the actual insurer names on both proposals, plus any contractual insurer-status requirements imposed by the customer. 4 2

Application Convenience Does Not Set the Effective Date

Corgi offers online application or a specialist call; CFC’s US technology form is completed by senior staff and returned to the broker. The latter asks about contracts, subsidiaries and security controls. Decide who will reconcile those answers with the customer agreement, even if the initial application experience is short. 31 3

Corgi’s disclosure describes both policy-issuance/payment conditions and temporary written binders. Obtain the applicable binding confirmation instead of relying on advertised same-day purchasing. Corgi discloses possible commissions or fees; CFC’s reviewed technology materials do not publish the buyer’s complete charges. Neither distribution path establishes a lower total cost. 30 6 2

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Map the customer clause and board request to separate coverage sections, including the California management-liability route. 11 34
  • Identify the insurer on every coverage and whether a proposed Corgi placement uses RRG or admitted paper; identify CFC’s participating insurer or syndicates rather than assuming Syndicate 1988. 30 4
  • Request the written effective date, selected limits and retentions, and full producer charges before treating the two package prices as comparable. 30 3

Service Comparison

CFC vs Corgi: documented services and availability

CriteriaCFCCorgi
Business role

CFC is a specialist insurance provider operating an MGA model: a managing general agent performs underwriting functions for insurance capacity providers. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and the U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand should not be treated as the name of every policy’s insurer. 5,4

Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. 30,31,33

Application process

The U.S. technology application asks a senior staff member to complete it and return it to the company’s insurance broker. It requests revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, major contracts, security controls, IP procedures and claims history. CFC’s Connect portal separately supports broker trading and describes a broker appointment process. 3,6

You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 31,30

Access to insurers

CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. 4,2,3

Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 30

Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 46,30,32,31,47,48

A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 47,48,50

For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 30,32,31,38

Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 30,34

Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 38,51

Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 49,31,30

Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 30,43

Availability

CFC reports that CFC USA, Inc. holds producer licenses in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., plus excess and surplus lines authorization in California, Georgia, New York and Texas. It identifies its California licensing name as CFC General Insurance Agency, Inc. This is CFC’s disclosure, not an independently checked California license record or confirmation of product eligibility. 4

CFC’s January 2026 U.S. management-liability brochure lists California-domiciled business and standalone employment practices liability under risks it declines. This restriction is specific to the described management-liability offering; it does not establish a California exclusion for every CFC product. 11

The reviewed U.S. technology page, brochure and application do not establish the currently available admitted or surplus-lines route for a particular California startup. CFC announced admitted technology E&O in 2023, but the reviewed materials do not supply a current California product eligibility schedule. 1,2,3,29

Corgi Insurance Services lists agency licenses in 49 states and Washington, D.C.; New Mexico is not listed. Product availability varies by state and is subject to underwriting approval. 33,31,30

Rhode Island’s 23 June 2026 list of registered risk retention groups includes Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc., NAIC 17763, at 425 Bush Street, San Francisco. A complete list of states where TRRG is registered was not found in the reviewed sources. 45

Fees and compensation

The reviewed U.S. technology brochure, application and Connect page do not disclose a buyer-specific premium, producer commission rate, broker fee or complete schedule of policy charges. Request a written breakdown of premium, taxes, fees and intermediary compensation before purchase. 2,3,6

Corgi Insurance Services may receive commissions or fees from the insurer or the customer. You can ask for the type and amount of compensation on your policy. 30

Corgi lists typical annual prices of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed and seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A companies. Your price depends on the business, state, coverage, limits, and other underwriting details. 31,35,36
