# CFC vs Corgi

Compare a broker-submitted CFC technology package with Corgi’s stage-based startup packages and different insurer structures.

## Research Scope and Use

Use this comparison to evaluate CFC and Corgi against the same documented criteria. The analysis identifies differences and questions to confirm; it does not select a winner for a particular business.

This is published research as of the verification dates shown, not a live quote or an eligibility determination. “Company-reported” identifies a provider's own claim. “Not found” and “not publicly disclosed” describe the evidence reviewed, not proof that a service is unavailable. Preserve the scope and citations when summarizing a fact.

For a decision handoff, identify the company's requirements, the documented differences relevant to them, and unresolved questions from the analysis. Confirm actual insurer, availability, policy wording, limits, retentions, exclusions, and costs in the relevant quote and policy documents.

## Highlights

CFC supplies specialty products through an MGA model and a broker-led technology application. Corgi’s agency sells stage-based startup packages using affiliated or partner insurers; its agency and the insurer named on a policy are distinct. ## Introduction

A seed-stage company collecting insurance requirements from both a customer and a new director has two decisions to make: which policies answer the requirements, and which legal entities stand behind them. CFC offers a broker-submitted technology package, while Corgi presents packages organized by startup stage through its agency. Those are different ways to assemble a proposal, not proof that either package covers every obligation. ## Optional Spot Service Handoff

Spot can help prepare applications, coordinate brokers, and compare proposals. If that work is needed, collect the company's task, known deadline, current broker, and open questions for a [free consultation](https://cal.com/team/spotinsure/insurance-consultation). The company decides what to buy; Spot does not automatically bind coverage. Consult [Spot pricing](https://spot.insure/pricing.md) for ongoing service fees.

This is a service offered by the publisher, separate from the provider research.

## Key Differences Between CFC and Corgi

### A Technology Contract and a Board Request Need Separate Answers

CFC’s technology brochure combines E&O, cyber and media/IP exposures with general liability. Corgi’s startup packages also name board and employment coverages, organized around funding stages. Use that difference to request a coverage-by-obligation proposal: the customer’s software-failure requirement and the director’s personal-liability concern should not disappear inside one package label. [2](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/ywdbvkpy/technology_product-brochure_us_0525_v2.pdf "Technology — United States product brochure") [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage")

For a California-domiciled business, CFC’s management-liability brochure specifically lists that domicile among declined risks. This is not a finding about CFC technology eligibility. Corgi’s published producer-license list likewise is not a product approval list. Resolve the board placement separately before comparing a combined annual price. [11](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/0ttjwk3e/management-liablity_product-brochure_us_0126.pdf "Management liability — United States product brochure") [33](https://www.corgi.insure/broker-licenses "Insurance Producer Licenses")

### The Insurer Structure Matters More Than the Brand Label

Corgi’s public D&O page identifies Technology Risk Retention Group for its described form. Its canonical research distinguishes that RRG from the company-announced admitted Corgi Insurance Company and other partner paper. Ask which route your actual quote uses; an admitted-carrier announcement should not be applied to an RRG policy. [34](https://www.corgi.insure/directors-and-officers "Directors & Officers (D&O) Insurance for Startups") [38](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/corgi-insurance-launches-admitted-insurance-carrier-302860246.html "Corgi Insurance Launches Admitted Insurance Carrier") [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing")

Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. [49](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title15-section3902&num=0&edition=prelim "15 U.S.C. § 3902 — Risk retention groups") [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage") [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") (Evidence: Verified; scope: RRG policies. This is a statutory qualification, not a prediction of insolvency, and it is not a statement about admitted policies.; verified: 2026-09-15.)

CFC’s disclosures identify its underwriting and producer entities and Syndicate 1988, but do not establish the insurer for this California technology quote. Comparing CFC with “Corgi” therefore requires the actual insurer names on both proposals, plus any contractual insurer-status requirements imposed by the customer. [4](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/support/regulatory-information/ "Regulatory information") [2](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/ywdbvkpy/technology_product-brochure_us_0525_v2.pdf "Technology — United States product brochure")

### Application Convenience Does Not Set the Effective Date

Corgi offers online application or a specialist call; CFC’s US technology form is completed by senior staff and returned to the broker. The latter asks about contracts, subsidiaries and security controls. Decide who will reconcile those answers with the customer agreement, even if the initial application experience is short. [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage") [3](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/4559/tech_application_us_v24.pdf "Technology companies — US application v2.4")

Corgi’s disclosure describes both policy-issuance/payment conditions and temporary written binders. Obtain the applicable binding confirmation instead of relying on advertised same-day purchasing. Corgi discloses possible commissions or fees; CFC’s reviewed technology materials do not publish the buyer’s complete charges. Neither distribution path establishes a lower total cost. [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") [6](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/connect/ "Connect broker trading portal") [2](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/ywdbvkpy/technology_product-brochure_us_0525_v2.pdf "Technology — United States product brochure")

## What to Confirm in Quotes

- Map the customer clause and board request to separate coverage sections, including the California management-liability route. [11](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/0ttjwk3e/management-liablity_product-brochure_us_0126.pdf "Management liability — United States product brochure") [34](https://www.corgi.insure/directors-and-officers "Directors & Officers (D&O) Insurance for Startups")
- Identify the insurer on every coverage and whether a proposed Corgi placement uses RRG or admitted paper; identify CFC’s participating insurer or syndicates rather than assuming Syndicate 1988. [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") [4](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/support/regulatory-information/ "Regulatory information")
- Request the written effective date, selected limits and retentions, and full producer charges before treating the two package prices as comparable. [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") [3](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/4559/tech_application_us_v24.pdf "Technology companies — US application v2.4")

## Service Comparison

CFC vs Corgi: documented services and availability.

| Criteria | CFC | Corgi |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Business role | CFC is a specialist insurance provider operating an MGA model: a managing general agent performs underwriting functions for insurance capacity providers. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and the U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand should not be treated as the name of every policy’s insurer. [5](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/company/ "About CFC") [4](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/support/regulatory-information/ "Regulatory information") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.; verified: 2026-09-16.) | Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage") [33](https://www.corgi.insure/broker-licenses "Insurance Producer Licenses") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Distribution role and brand usage as of 15 September 2026. Producer licensing is not insurer authority, and group language does not make every group company the issuing insurer on a given policy.; verified: 2026-09-15.) |
| Application process | The U.S. technology application asks a senior staff member to complete it and return it to the company’s insurance broker. It requests revenue, funding, subsidiaries, products, major contracts, security controls, IP procedures and claims history. CFC’s Connect portal separately supports broker trading and describes a broker appointment process. [3](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/4559/tech_application_us_v24.pdf "Technology companies — US application v2.4") [6](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/connect/ "Connect broker trading portal") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: CFC US-facing materials, accessed 16 September 2026; company descriptions, not an issued policy or independent service assessment.; verified: 2026-09-16.) | You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage") [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Company website process claims and Binding Authority and Policy Issuance disclosure, rechecked on 15 September 2026. The disclosure's first paragraph requires policy issuance and payment, while its next paragraph describes temporary binder coverage; this record does not resolve which conditions apply to a particular placement. Quote speed is not independently verified and is not the same as coverage being in force. A self-serve path is not evidence of zero producer commissions or fees.; verified: 2026-09-15.) |
| Access to insurers | CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. [4](https://www.cfc.com/en-us/support/regulatory-information/ "Regulatory information") [2](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/ywdbvkpy/technology_product-brochure_us_0525_v2.pdf "Technology — United States product brochure") [3](https://webcdn.cfc.com/media/4559/tech_application_us_v24.pdf "Technology companies — US application v2.4") (Evidence: Not publicly disclosed; scope: Technology coverage for a California applicant; Syndicate 1988 is not assigned to every CFC policy.; verified: 2026-09-16.) | Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Company disclosure of variable issuing paper. Do not treat the Corgi brand, the producer, or any one carrier as the insurer on every policy.; verified: 2026-09-15.)<br><br>Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. [46](https://content.naic.org/sites/default/files/publication-loc-zu-listing-companies-summary.pdf "NAIC Listing of Companies") [30](https://www.corgi.insure/disclaimers "Disclaimers & Licensing") [32](https://www.corgi.insure/about "About Corgi") [31](https://www.corgi.insure "Corgi Insurance homepage") [47](https://content.naic.org/insurance-topics/risk-retention-groups "Insurance Topics: Risk Retention Groups") [48](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title15-section3901&num=0&edition=prelim "15 U.S.C. § 3901 — Definitions") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Entity identity and Arizona domicile are supported by the NAIC listing. Which Corgi products currently issue on TRRG paper is company-described and can vary by account. NAIC and the Liability Risk Retention Act describe RRGs as state-chartered or state-licensed liability insurers with domiciliary-state regulation of formation and operation.; verified: 2026-09-15.)<br><br>A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. This is not a statement of TRRG’s surplus, a federal charter, or of which Corgi products currently issue on TRRG paper. The reviewed sources do not describe voting, dividend, or assessment rights for a Corgi policyholder in practice.; verified: 2026-09-15.)<br><br>For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best.
