CFC vs Chubb

Compare CFC technology insurance with Chubb DigiTech and broader commercial programs for a startup adding physical operations.

Introduction

A software company adding devices, inventory or installation work needs more than a familiar cyber label. This comparison starts with technology liability, then asks how the proposal handles the physical business developing around it. CFC’s technology materials and Chubb’s technology practice both address technology businesses, but a catalogue does not establish acceptance of the buyer’s particular operations. 1 33

Key Differences Between CFC and Chubb

Compare the Technology Forms Before Comparing the Corporate Brands

CFC describes a technology package spanning E&O, cyber, media/IP and general liability. Chubb markets DigiTech ERM as a single policy combining technology E&O, media and cyber; its other ERM products have different purposes. A useful submission identifies the exact product proposed on each side instead of treating every Chubb cyber form as DigiTech or every CFC specialty line as part of its technology package. 2 39

For a device-enabled service, have the broker map a failed deployment, an outage and an allegation of bodily injury to the proposed forms. CFC’s application asks about hardware, installation and managed services. Those questions make the operational description material; they do not establish that all resulting liabilities are insured. 3

A Larger Commercial Programme Needs More Than the Technology Contract

Chubb’s catalogue includes property packages, workers’ compensation, commercial auto and umbrella/excess alongside technology insurance. CFC also markets property/casualty products, but its technology brochure is not evidence of a complete property or employment-related program. Ask for a schedule of separate policies and insurers covering the physical operation, with gaps and overlaps identified. 32 37 13

Board protection deserves its own review. CFC’s reviewed US management-liability brochure declines California-domiciled business. Chubb markets Forefront management products, but that product page alone does not establish eligibility for this California startup. A broker should obtain a specific management-liability route rather than assume the technology insurer can supply it. 11 41

Identify the Insurer and the Service Entitlement Separately

CFC is an MGA; the reviewed public documentation does not establish the insurer for a particular California technology placement. Chubb is an insurance group whose policies are issued by subsidiaries, not simply by the holding company. California admission evidence for certain Chubb companies cannot substitute for the named insurer and form on the actual quote. 5 4 65 31

CFC markets cyber monitoring and incident response. Chubb markets risk engineering and servicing tools, but Worldview is described for large multinational clients. Compare the services included for this account; neither a group-wide tool catalogue nor a specialist response proposition is a service guarantee for every policyholder. 7 56

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which technology form covers software, hardware and installation revenue, and where do bodily injury, product liability and contractual obligations sit?
  • What separate property, workers’ compensation and management policies are needed, and which California-authorized route and insurer will issue each?
  • Which monitoring, risk-engineering and response services are included, who activates them, and what additional fees or agreements apply?

Service Comparison

CFC vs Chubb: documented services and availability

CriteriaCFCChubb
Business role

CFC is a specialist insurance provider operating an MGA model: a managing general agent performs underwriting functions for insurance capacity providers. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and the U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand should not be treated as the name of every policy’s insurer. 5,4

Chubb is the marketing name for subsidiaries of Chubb Limited, a Swiss holding company, that provide insurance and related services. U.S. commercial policies are issued by U.S.-based Chubb underwriting companies, not by Chubb Limited itself. 68,31,54

Commercial buyers typically reach Chubb through independent agents and brokers. Chubb appoints producers, operates agent portals, and identifies Chubb Insurance Solutions Agency, Inc. as the licensed agency that administers Chubb Access appointments. Surplus-lines products can be offered only through licensed surplus-lines producers. 58,59,31,67

Coverage lines

CFC’s U.S. technology brochure describes errors and omissions, cyber, media/IP infringement and general liability protection, including liability arising from client contract breaches. The brochure describes a package; the quote and wording determine which sections and exclusions apply. 2

CFC’s U.S. cyber catalogue lists Cyber Proactive Response, admitted cyber, Corporate cyber and cyber excess. These are distinct offerings; an admitted label on the website does not establish California eligibility or identical wording across products. 9

CFC markets management liability covering directors and officers, employment practices, fiduciary exposures and crime, and separately lists Side A DIC excess protection for directors and officers. Its U.S. management-liability brochure declines California-domiciled business; do not read these catalogue entries as California availability. 10,11

CFC separately markets intellectual-property insurance for infringement defense, enforcement and related IP risks, including patent exposures. Its scope should be compared with the narrower IP provisions in any technology quote. 14,2

CFC offers fintech insurance combining financial and technology liability with other financial-sector risks, eHealth for digital-health businesses, and life-science packages for businesses such as device or drug developers and nutraceutical companies. These sector products require their own underwriting and terms. 23,19,22

CFC’s U.S. product pages also market professional E&O, property and general liability, media liability, medical malpractice, product recall, kidnap and ransom, and umbrella protection over professional liability, general liability or cyber. This catalogue does not mean every line is included in a technology policy or available for every California risk. 12,13,21,20,16,15,18

CFC markets representations and warranties insurance, small-business buyer and seller protection, and secondary-liquidity transaction solutions. These are transaction-specific products rather than ordinary operating-company liability coverage. 17

Other CFC specialty offerings include carbon-credit delivery, cancellation and lender non-payment insurance; a CORSIA guarantee product; standalone sexual abuse and molestation liability through Safeprotect; terrorism insurance; and marine hull-war and kidnap-and-ransom cover. Their presence on the U.S. site does not resolve California placement eligibility. 25,26,27,28

For technology companies, Chubb markets DigiTech Enterprise Risk Management as a single policy addressing technology errors and omissions, media and cyber exposures, alongside Cyber ERM for cyber, privacy and media and Pro ERM for professional, media and cyber. Actual terms, limits and exclusions are in the issued form. 39,38,33

Chubb’s U.S. commercial catalogue for technology and other businesses also includes package policies (BOP, Benchmarq and Customarq combining property, business income and general liability), workers’ compensation, commercial auto, umbrella and excess, ForeFront management-liability parts (including D&O, employment practices, fiduciary and crime), property, inland marine, builders’ risk, equipment breakdown, ocean cargo, environmental/pollution, surety, product recall, and representations and warranties for large-account multinational programs. 33,36,40,44,54,56

Access to insurers

CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. 4,2,3

The issuing insurer is a Chubb-group underwriting company named on the policy. Reviewed sources identify Federal Insurance Company as a primary U.S. underwriting company, ACE American Insurance Company as a U.S. issuing company on surety materials, and Westchester Fire Insurance Company or Westchester Surplus Lines Insurance Company (and, for some Westchester business, Illinois Union or other ACE paper) depending on the placement. Buyers should read the declarations rather than assume a single “Chubb” legal insurer. 59,54,57,65,70

Servicing and renewals

CFC says its cyber service includes threat monitoring and alerts, a response app and round-the-clock technical incident support. These are company-described services; access, scope and any conditions should be checked against the proposed policy. 7

The reviewed Connect and technology application pages do not specify a customer-facing renewal timetable, certificate turnaround or dedicated account-management commitment for California technology buyers. Confirm those arrangements with the placing broker. 6,3

Chubb tells buyers to use their agent or broker as the first service contact and publishes Small Business policy-service, billing and client-center support for policies purchased through Chubb Small Business or named affinity partners. Lower-midmarket materials describe a path from quoting and issuance through servicing and renewals. Large multinational accounts are offered Worldview for program documents, certificates and claims status. Technology marketing also describes dedicated underwriting, claims and risk-engineering teams, including nearly 500 in-house risk engineers in related consulting copy. 59,48,56,33,47
