Chubb vs
Corgi
Compare buying technology insurance from Chubb’s appointed-agent carrier path with Corgi’s startup packages and affiliated or partner paper.
Introduction
A pre-seed or Series A software company that needs a combined general-liability, D&O, technology E&O and cyber stack can look at Corgi’s packaged path or ask a broker to seek Chubb DigiTech and package paper. Those are different legal roles: Chubb issues policies from group companies; Corgi sells and administers coverage written by an affiliated or partner insurer. 2 45 44

Key Differences Between Chubb and Corgi
Who Issues the Policy
Chubb is a marketing name for U.S. underwriting companies in the Chubb Limited group; the holding company is not the issuer. Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies, and the insurer named in the policy provides the coverage. 2 44
If Corgi proposes Technology Risk Retention Group, that paper is a member-owned liability insurer without AM Best rating in Corgi’s disclosure and without state guaranty-fund protection. Chubb’s California admitted companies include Federal Insurance Company and ACE American Insurance Company; that does not prove DigiTech or a BOP will be offered to the same applicant on admitted paper. 44 41 42
How You Apply
Chubb’s public commercial path is an appointed independent agent using Marketplace or Cyber Central for eligible small-commercial and cyber accounts. Corgi describes an online application or a specialist call, and says eligible applicants can complete a purchase the same day. That timing is Corgi’s description, not a timed test in this article. The two flows are not the same kind of bind. 9 29 45
What the Price Figures Mean
Corgi publishes illustrative annual ranges for eligible pre-seed/seed and Series A packages and says its agency may receive commissions or fees. Chubb’s buyer-facing pages reviewed for this comparison do not publish premiums; agent materials refer to commissions without rates. The Corgi bands cannot be treated as a Chubb quote, and unpublished Chubb prices are not zero cost. 45 44 29
Claims Contacts
Chubb publishes 24/7 first-notice numbers, a cyber hotline and a small-commercial portal for eligible policies. Corgi describes a claims team that may be affiliated or a third-party administrator, with the policy naming the claims administrator. Notice instructions follow the issued contract, not the brand on the website. 33 44
What to Confirm in Quotes
-
Named insurer and paper type. TRRG versus Corgi Insurance Company or a partner, versus Federal, ACE American or another Chubb affiliate, plus admitted, surplus or RRG status in California. 44 30
-
Which activities the E&O/cyber form actually insures. Match product, implementation and AI work to DigiTech or Corgi’s Tech & AI module wording. 10 45
-
Compensation and any published Corgi range versus the live Chubb premium. Itemize commissions, fees and taxes on the same limits and term. 44 29
Service Comparison
Chubb vs Corgi: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Chubb | Corgi |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Chubb is the marketing name for subsidiaries of Chubb Limited, a Swiss holding company, that provide insurance and related services. U.S. commercial policies are issued by U.S.-based Chubb underwriting companies, not by Chubb Limited itself. 39,2,25 Commercial buyers typically reach Chubb through independent agents and brokers. Chubb appoints producers, operates agent portals, and identifies Chubb Insurance Solutions Agency, Inc. as the licensed agency that administers Chubb Access appointments. Surplus-lines products can be offered only through licensed surplus-lines producers. 29,30,2,38 | Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. 44,45,47 |
| Application process | Appointed agents and brokers can quote, and for eligible risks issue, small-business and cyber accounts through Chubb Marketplace, and can use Cyber Central for an express cyber quoting path. Marketplace cyber quoting is described for eligible risks with less than $100 million in revenue; referred risks go to underwriters. Businesses seeking coverage are directed to an agent, a U.S. contact form, or chubbsmallbusiness.com for small-business quote inquiries. The reviewed public pages do not describe a general-public online bind for middle-market technology programs. 9,10,30,31,12 | You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 45,44 |
| Access to insurers | The issuing insurer is a Chubb-group underwriting company named on the policy. Reviewed sources identify Federal Insurance Company as a primary U.S. underwriting company, ACE American Insurance Company as a U.S. issuing company on surety materials, and Westchester Fire Insurance Company or Westchester Surplus Lines Insurance Company (and, for some Westchester business, Illinois Union or other ACE paper) depending on the placement. Buyers should read the declarations rather than assume a single “Chubb” legal insurer. 30,25,28,36,41 | Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 44 Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 60,44,46,45,61,62 A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 61,62,64 For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 44,46,45,52 Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 44,48 Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 52,65 Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 63,45,44 Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 44,57 |
| Fees and compensation | Reviewed buyer-facing U.S. pages do not publish premiums, producer-compensation schedules, or policyholder fees. Agent-recruiting copy refers to competitive commissions without stating rates. Inland marine engineering beyond included loss-control is described as available on a fee-for-service basis. 29,7,10,21 | Corgi Insurance Services may receive commissions or fees from the insurer or the customer. You can ask for the type and amount of compensation on your policy. 44 Corgi lists typical annual prices of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed and seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A companies. Your price depends on the business, state, coverage, limits, and other underwriting details. 45,49,50 |
| Claims assistance | Chubb publishes 24/7 claim reporting at 1-800-CLAIMS-0, product-specific first-notice emails including cyberclaimreport@chubb.com and a 24/7 cyber incident hotline at 1-800-817-2665, plus a Small Commercial client portal for eligible policyholders to report claims and upload documents. Claims-page satisfaction figures are company-reported survey results and do not independently establish claims-handling quality for a given loss. 32,33,34,9,30 | Corgi describes a claims team that helps with reporting an incident, documentation, legal coordination, and progress updates. An affiliated team or third-party administrator may handle the claim; the insurer named in the policy remains responsible for coverage decisions and payment. 44,45,55 |
