Equipment Breakdown Insurance in Nebraska
Nebraska requires annual inspections for boilers covered by its Boiler Inspection Act, with separate exceptions and pressure-vessel rules. A covered boiler installation generally needs 10 days’ written notice to the State Fire Marshal, and a moved boiler must be reinspected before use. These safety rules do not set insurance coverage or availability; check the policy schedule and interruption terms for each critical unit. 1,2
What Is Equipment Breakdown?
Equipment-breakdown coverage can help repair covered machinery or building equipment after a mechanical or electrical failure. It fits businesses that depend on equipment to operate; check whether lost income, spoilage and utility failures are included. Read the national Equipment breakdown guide.

What to Watch for in Nebraska
Put boiler notice into the commissioning schedule
Before installing a boiler covered by the Act, give the State Fire Marshal 10 days’ written notice; a boiler moved to another location must be reinspected before it returns to use. Ask the installer who submits notice and keep the inspection certificate with the unit’s records so a new or relocated boiler does not delay planned production. 2,1
Keep the boiler and pressure-vessel schedules separate
Nebraska’s default annual interval applies to boilers required to be inspected by the Act. The statute separately allows longer pressure-vessel intervals by rule, capped at the relevant National Board or API-510 recommended interval; nonexempt boilers used as potable-water heaters are inspected at least every 24 months. Identify each unit by nameplate and equipment class before budgeting inspection outages. 1
Check the whole exemption list against the equipment
The Act excludes specific categories, including boilers used exclusively for agriculture, certain low-pressure residential heating boilers, boilers or fired pressure vessels at or below 200,000 Btu/hour input, and unfired vessels meeting listed size or pressure limits. Other exclusions have additional conditions. Do not treat a boiler or pressure vessel as exempt from state inspection based only on its label or one threshold; match its use, pressure, input and statutory category. 3
Size interruption protection for the scheduled location
A 2015 HSB equipment-breakdown form is a wording example only. It applies Property Damage to covered property at a location shown in the declarations. Business Income pays actual loss during the period of restoration only when it results directly from a necessary total or partial interruption caused by a Covered Cause of Loss; Extra Expense covers reasonable and necessary expenses to operate during that period. Each coverage has its own declared limit. A time deductible applies only if shown in the declarations, and Business Income is subject to coinsurance unless the declarations say otherwise. The form defines the restoration period by repair or replacement, or the time completion could have taken with due diligence, plus any declared extension. Ask the insurer to list each critical machine and location and show income values, limits, any time deductible, coinsurance basis and expediting expense coverage in the actual quote and policy. The 2015 form does not establish current Nebraska availability or your policy terms. 4
Who Regulates Insurance in Nebraska

Surplus-lines tax and stamping office
Reported tax rate: 3% of gross premium charged, less return premiums Nebraska’s 3% tax applies to gross premium charged less return premium when the risk is Nebraska’s home-state placement; fees paid to the carrier are taxable, while broker-retained or third-party fees are not. A Nebraska-licensed surplus-lines producer ordinarily must complete due diligence, while exempt-commercial-purchaser provisions permit limited exceptions; federal ECP status alone does not erase the disclosure and subsequent written-request conditions for the federal search waiver. Nebraska policies state that its Property and Liability Guaranty Association will not cover surplus-lines claims. 8,9,10,11
Providers With Documented State Licenses
No provider in Spot’s research documents both a state license record and this coverage line. This does not establish that providers are unlicensed. Check the regulator’s license lookup and confirm availability with a provider when requesting a quote.
