Louisiana Equipment Breakdown Insurance Guide
As of September 28, 2026, Louisiana law allows a narrow inspection schedule for certain power boilers integral to continuous operations: qualifying planned shutdowns must last at least five days and occur after three years, with no more than five years between internal inspections. Act 842 of 2026 replaces these boiler statutes effective January 1, 2027, so operations spanning that date should verify the new inspection rules. Neither the current exception nor the new law determines insurance coverage for machinery, interruption, extra expense, or spoilage. 1,2
What Is Equipment Breakdown?
Equipment-breakdown coverage can help repair covered machinery or building equipment after a mechanical or electrical failure. It fits businesses that depend on equipment to operate; check whether lost income, spoilage and utility failures are included. Read the national Equipment breakdown guide.

What to Watch for in Louisiana
The current inspection exception is limited to qualifying process boilers
Through December 31, 2026, the special timing applies to power boilers integral to continuous operations and qualifying scheduled shutdowns lasting at least five days after three years, with a five-year maximum. Confirm that the unit and shutdown meet those terms; a longer regulatory interval does not insure a sudden equipment failure or production interruption. 1
A separate extension requires approval and detailed operating records
The current law allows an approved extension of up to 24 months for stationary boilers only with supervised continuous water treatment, regular water samples, complete outage and repair records, and satisfactory inspection findings. Keep those records for the inspection process, and ask the broker separately whether the policy imposes maintenance or claim-documentation conditions. 1
Recheck the schedule before work that continues into 2027
Louisiana Act 842 repeals the current Title 23 boiler provisions and enacts a replacement Title 40 program effective January 1, 2027. If an inspection, repair, or restart falls on or after that date, confirm the then-current rule, permit path, and certificate requirements with the Fire Marshal before setting an operating date. 2

Surplus-lines tax and stamping office
Reported tax rate: 4.85% of gross premium plus a 0.175% SLIP+ transaction fee for policies effective on or after July 1, 2026 For Louisiana-home-state policies effective on or after July 1, 2026, the state charges 4.85% of gross premium plus a 0.175% SLIP+ transaction fee, which your broker may add to your bill. Louisiana's required policy disclosure says these policies are not covered by the Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association; state placement and filing rules still apply. 6,7
Providers With Documented State Licenses
No provider in Spot’s research documents both a state license record and this coverage line. This does not establish that providers are unlicensed. Check the regulator’s license lookup and confirm availability with a provider when requesting a quote.
