Lockton vs Risklytics

How Lockton’s general technology brokerage differs from Risklytics’ robotics, autonomy, hardware and AI specialty brokerage.

Introduction

Risklytics describes brokerage for robotics, autonomy, hardware and AI businesses, including technology errors and omissions, intellectual property and space-related placements. 23 26 Lockton lists electronic hardware among many technology verticals and emphasizes cyber and directors and officers (D&O) liability rather than space or intellectual property as headline products. 2

A dual-use robotics company that needs intellectual property and product-liability-sensitive wording is choosing a specialist broker conversation versus a general technology broker. Listing hardware is not the same as advertising space insurance. 23

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Lockton Shines

  • Lockton describes itself as a privately held independent broker for risk, employee benefits and retirement, not as the insurer on the policies it places. 1,13,20
  • US pages list brokerage for cyber and privacy, directors and officers, casualty (including general and product liability, auto, cargo, umbrella and workers’ compensation), property, fiduciary liability and employee benefits. 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

Where Risklytics Shines

  • Risklytics says it prepares the application from your business description and website for your review. 23
  • Risklytics says it reviews technology E&O wording for AI exclusions before binding. 30

Key Differences Between Lockton and Risklytics

Stated Focus

Risklytics’ catalogue is built around robotics, autonomy, hardware and AI specialties. Lockton’s technology list is a broad brokerage client set. Overlap on “hardware” does not make the same underwriters or forms. 24 2

Fees

Risklytics publishes fee information on its pricing page. Lockton’s Terms of Business describe compensation types without a published fee schedule. 27 13

Licensing Caveats

Risklytics publishes licensing disclosure and an unresolved California route. Lockton’s California license number remains unverified. 33 22

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Whether Lockton will market intellectual property, space or robotics product liability or will refer out. 31 2
  • Markets Risklytics says it can access versus Lockton’s unnamed partners. 26 13
  • Fee versus commission in writing. 27 13
  • Producer licenses in every operating state. 33

Service Comparison

Lockton vs Risklytics: documented services and availability

CriteriaLocktonRisklytics
Customer focus

Lockton markets to organizations seeking risk, benefits and retirement brokerage. Its US technology practice says it works with clients in electronic hardware, information technology, internet, medical equipment, semiconductors, software and telecommunications. Separate pages address private-equity firms, including portfolio-company programs. The reviewed pages do not publish a minimum company size, funding stage or revenue floor for technology clients. 1,2,10

Risklytics markets to robotics, autonomous-vehicle, hardware, AI software and agent businesses, with additional industry pages for drones, space and defense contractors. Its emphasis is on explaining unfamiliar operations to insurance underwriters. 24,26

Coverage lines

For technology clients, Lockton highlights cyber liability and directors and officers liability, plus related services such as contract review and international program design. Dedicated US product pages describe brokerage for casualty lines (auto, cargo, general and product liability, umbrella and excess, workers’ compensation), commercial property, fiduciary liability for employee-benefit-plan fiduciaries, and People Solutions employee benefits. A private-equity capabilities list also names errors and omissions, crime and financial-institution bonds, employment practices liability, surety, key-person insurance, transaction insurance including representations and warranties, and portfolio-company programs. Actual policy wording, limits and whether a given buyer is offered those lines remain quote-dependent. 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

Risklytics says it places general liability, technology errors and omissions (E&O), cyber, directors and officers, commercial property, inland marine equipment, workers’ compensation, umbrella, intellectual property and space insurance. These are advertised placement categories, not a single package or a guarantee of availability. 26

Risklytics says it reads technology E&O forms before binding and warns that AI exclusions can affect the result. Its product page is a general description, not a specimen policy or confirmation that a particular AI failure is covered. 30

The advertised IP line discusses both infringement defense and enforcement of owned rights. The space line discusses pre-launch hardware, launch, in-orbit risks and related liability. Neither description establishes that every component is included in a quoted policy. 31,32,26

Application process

Public US application starts as an inquiry: the US contact form (Ask an Expert) and industry pages invite buyers to connect with a team. The privacy notice refers to soliciting an insurance policy quote. The Cyber & Technology page publishes cyber@lockton.com. Reviewed pages do not describe a self-serve bind flow, published quote turnaround, or an unauthenticated online application that issues a policy without a Lockton representative. 12,1,15,3,14

Risklytics says it drafts an application using your description and public business information, including your website, for you to check and sign. It advertises Slack and email placement updates. The application-preparation process and its speed were not tested. 23

Risklytics says it reviews the application with you, approaches suitable insurers and reads quote wording before making a recommendation. Its FAQ says the insurer binds after you accept a quote; timing varies with the coverage and operation. 28

Fees and compensation

US Terms of Business say Lockton may be paid insurer commissions (a percentage of premium), negotiated client fees in lieu of or in addition to commissions, additional compensation such as contingent or supplemental commissions, insurer service fees (including for some managing-general-agency or analytics work), compensation involving affiliate Lockton Re, LLC on reinsurance placements, and interest or premium-finance related income. Commissions are described as fully earned at inception unless law or insurer contracts say otherwise. The terms tell clients to ask their Lockton representative for account-specific compensation. No public fee schedule, commission percentages or typical startup pricing appears on the reviewed pages. 13

Risklytics advertises no application charge or additional brokerage fee, says carriers pay commission from premiums, and offers to disclose its earnings on request. Its terms separately allow carrier or wholesaler compensation and carrier-set taxes and policy fees. No buyer-specific premium or commission amount is published on the pricing page. 27,25

Availability

Lockton publishes a US regional site, a Kansas City headquarters address, and California office listings in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Irvine under the heading Lockton Insurance Brokers. Those offices and the US website do not establish that a particular product is available to a California-domiciled company, or in every US state. Terms of Business also contemplate surplus-lines placements when admitted markets are not used. 16,17,18,19,13

Risklytics publishes agency NPN 22311838 and Massachusetts resident license 3004393145. Its state table, dated September 10, 2026, also lists Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Washington. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified licenses or product eligibility. 24

California is absent from the reviewed agency-license table. A California-authorized producer and product route remain unconfirmed in the reviewed disclosures; this does not establish that Risklytics cannot arrange California coverage. Confirm the responsible producer, authority and insurer for your operation before relying on a quote. 24,25,33
