Coverdash vs TechInsurance

Comparing embedded insurance buying with a technology-focused brokerage application on authorization, cyber structure and renewal charges.

Introduction

A founder may encounter Coverdash inside another business platform and TechInsurance while searching for technology coverage. Coverdash supports direct and embedded insurance buying, while TechInsurance describes one application for comparing quotes with agent guidance. Before choosing the easier-looking entry point, establish the brokerage authorization, coverage structure and renewal obligations behind it. 8 9 29

Listed products and programs, including policies arranged through insurers or partners. Optional endorsements are discussed in the analysis below. “Not listed” means no separate offering appears in the reviewed catalogue; confirm availability and policy terms with the provider.

Key Differences Between Coverdash and TechInsurance

The Host Platform Is Not the Insurance Broker

Coverdash’s terms assign insurance service to its brokerage entity even when a partner hosts the interface. They also describe a broker-or-agent-of-record designation and exclusivity for those services unless otherwise agreed. A founder testing an embedded quote should understand when that designation takes effect and which policies it covers. 2 9

TechInsurance’s legal disclosure identifies the SPG division, and its About page places it within Insureon. That is a different distribution presentation, not evidence that the brokerage appointment has fewer obligations. Ask both for the applicable engagement terms before giving overlapping instructions to shop the same risk. 36 29

Two Ways of Describing Technology E&O and Cyber

Coverdash says some technology E&O policies bundle cyber and others do not. TechInsurance markets technology E&O as an E&O/cyber bundle. The practical task is to obtain a coverage map showing which section responds to a service failure, a breach on your own systems and liability to a client. Neither description proves that identically named quotes have the same exclusions or shared limits. 17 22 34

Coverdash also publishes management-liability and transactional-risk offerings. Those may be relevant to a fundraising or acquisition discussion, but their presence in a broad catalogue does not establish eligibility for this business. TechInsurance lists D&O and employment practices coverage; ask each to specify what is actually included in the proposed program rather than using catalogue size as a proxy for protection. 18 20 33

Authorization Can Outlast the First Purchase

For policies whose billing and premium payment it facilitates, Coverdash’s renewal authorization permits automatic renewal with a premium increase of up to 20% if no material coverage terms change. Larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. 6

The renewal authorization is consequential for a finance team that requires approval of every expenditure. TechInsurance’s reviewed pages do not establish its renewal remarketing schedule or approval commitments, so obtain those separately rather than assuming silence creates a manual approval process. 6 29 30

Coverdash discloses a nonrefundable Technology Access Fee without a public numerical schedule. TechInsurance’s linked SPG disclosure allows commissions and negotiated client fees. Compare the written purchase and renewal invoices, including financing, instead of interpreting online software access or free quotations as a fee-free placement. 5 37

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Identify the broker-of-record authorization, its scope and the treatment of an existing broker, especially when applying inside a partner platform. 2 36
  • Obtain separate E&O and cyber coverage schedules, including whether limits are shared and which insurer issues them. 17 34
  • Reconcile renewal consent, opt-out timing and all agency or technology charges in writing. Clarify payment versus binding: Coverdash’s FAQ and terms describe different sequences, and TechInsurance warns of quote delays. 6 4 2 30

Service Comparison

Coverdash vs TechInsurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoverdashTechInsurance
Business role

Coverdash’s terms name Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC; the LLC provides the insurance brokerage service. It arranges coverage with insurance companies and says it does not underwrite policies. 2

The reviewed corporate pages identify Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC but do not establish their precise ownership relationship or a current controlling parent. 2,8

A partner can put Coverdash’s quote and policy-management experience inside its own website or software. Coverdash’s terms assign insurance solicitation and service to Coverdash rather than the host platform. 9,2

TechInsurance is a small-business insurance agency and brokerage. Its legal disclosure identifies the business as a division of Specialty Program Group LLC, doing business in California as SPG Insurance Solutions. 30,36,37

TechInsurance describes itself as part of Insureon and HUB International. Its history says HUB acquired Insureon’s digital agency in 2022 while Bold Penguin acquired the technology platform; HUB’s acquisition announcement placed the agency operations within Specialty Program Group. 29,30,39

Application process

Coverdash’s public application begins with an email-address field. Its FAQ says to have your business name, address, industry, annual revenue and employee count ready; it describes online quote comparison and purchasing, with same-day coverage for most policies. 10,4

The FAQ says payment follows choosing and binding a policy, but the terms allow collecting payment before binding and later insurer rejection or repricing. Confirm the effective date and binding confirmation before relying on coverage. 4,2

Using the brokerage service means appointing Coverdash as broker or agent of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2

TechInsurance describes a single application for comparing multiple insurance quotes, followed by policy purchase and online coverage management, with licensed-agent guidance available. 29

TechInsurance’s account instructions warn that quotes may take time to appear after an application is submitted; an application is not confirmation of bound coverage. 30

Fees and compensation

Coverdash discloses a Technology Access Fee on each purchased policy, in addition to policy charges, and calls it fully earned and nonrefundable. The disclosure does not give its amount. 5

Coverdash may receive insurer or payment-servicer commissions, performance-related contingent or supplemental commissions, and negotiated client fees. It also discloses affinity-referral and administrative-service income. 5

Coverdash’s help center identifies Ascend as its payment and premium-finance partner. It explains that financing pays the annual premium upfront while the customer repays in installments. Confirm the current lender, interest and fees in the payment agreement. 12,6

TechInsurance directs buyers to SPG’s compensation disclosure, which describes insurer commissions, contingent and supplemental payments, and possible negotiated client fees. Some placements may involve both commission and client-paid fees; quote-specific amounts are not disclosed there. 36,37

SPG discloses that strategic insurers may pay enhanced compensation and that some of it may incentivize employees to prioritize those insurers’ products. Ask which markets were approached and how the placement is compensated. 37

Servicing and renewals

The public sign-in page describes resuming applications, reviewing policies and billing requests, downloading certificates and contacting an account manager. Coverdash’s FAQ directs customers through their account to request coverage changes or cancellation. 11,4

Coverdash’s certificate guide describes self-service PDF certificates, selection of multiple policies and an e-commerce marketplace template. It says requests for agent assistance can take up to two business days. 13

For policies whose billing and premium payment it facilitates, Coverdash’s renewal authorization permits automatic renewal with a premium increase of up to 20% if no material coverage terms change. Larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. 6

The authorization permits necessary renewal paperwork, including a new premium-finance agreement. Customers can opt out or request cancellation through the dashboard, with processing time; the insurer still decides whether to renew. 6

TechInsurance says it provides a dedicated account manager and online certificate access. Its instructions require an active policy for a certificate request and direct urgent requests to the account manager. 28,30

The reviewed About and Contact pages do not establish a renewal remarketing schedule, a contractual response-time commitment, or the scope of dedicated support for a complex growth-stage insurance program. 29,30
