Moving from USI Insurance Services

USI is a consultative broker for technology companies from seed stage through IPO, and its stated focus is middle-market property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk and retirement brokerage and consulting. Its commissions page describes insurer commissions and possible contingent compensation. It doesn’t publish a self-serve commercial quote flow.

Why businesses consider switching

  • 01

    You passed a stage

A company that began as a seed-stage team may want a broker built for a public offering, or one that focuses on early stage.

  • 02

You want to see how a broker is paid

Insurer commissions, fees and contingent payments vary. Buyers often ask for each candidate’s terms in writing before choosing.

  • 03

    You want a single contact

Some owners prefer one named person who knows the whole program to a layered team.

  • 04

    Ownership or structure changed

A merger, a new subsidiary or a move into new states often prompts a fresh look at who services the program.

How to switch without a gap

  • 01

Read the agreement for term and notice

Find the term, the notice period and the entity that signed. Property and casualty and benefits may sit under different agreements.

  • 02

Decide whether to move both programs

You can change your property and casualty broker and leave benefits where they are. Your Spot team shows both sets of dates side by side.

  • 03

    Decide how to hand over

Servicing can move now by letter, or later with the new policy at renewal. Check each against the insurer’s timing.

  • 04

Confirm in writing, then update everyone

Keep each policy in force until the new broker confirms. Then reissue certificates, share new claims instructions with your team and update contract contacts.

Common questions

How is a broker paid?

Brokers are usually paid by insurer commissions, fees or both, and some earn contingent compensation. Ask each broker you consider to explain theirs, and your Spot team records the answers.

Can I leave USI for only my property and casualty program?

Often, yes. Property and casualty and employee benefits are separate programs. Your Spot team keeps dates for each so you can change one and leave the other.

Is Spot affiliated with USI?

No. Spot isn’t affiliated with USI Insurance Services. We mention USI to identify the broker you’re leaving, and we don’t speak on its behalf.

When is the best time to leave USI?

There’s no single best date. Renewal is the cleanest handover, while a letter works mid-term. Your Spot team lists every policy’s date and the notice USI asks for, so you can choose.

Does Spot charge a fee or commission on my premiums?

Spot takes nothing from your premiums, and the broker you pick still advises and places coverage. Spot organizes the program and the paperwork around it.
