Additional Insured Certificates

Add the additional insured your contract requires, then send the certificate

Your Spot team requests the additional insured endorsement through your broker and insurer, then you generate a certificate that shows it in the Spot app.

  • Endorsement wording matched to the contract
  • Blanket or scheduled wording checked before you promise it
  • Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

How it works

Share the request

Upload the contract clause or the email asking for additional insured status. Your Spot team reads who must be added and for what.

Check your policy’s wording

We check whether your policy already has a blanket additional insured endorsement that reaches this party, or whether one must be added.

Get the endorsement added

If it’s needed, your Spot team requests the endorsement through your broker and insurer and follows up until it’s issued.

What your certificate needs to show

  • 01

    Who is added

The party’s exact legal name, and often its parent, affiliates, officers and employees.

  • 02

    Which policies

Most often general liability, and sometimes auto, umbrella or excess as well.

  • 03

    Ongoing and completed work

Whether the cover applies only while your work is under way or after it’s finished too.

  • 04

    Primary and non-contributory

Requests for additional insured status often come with this wording attached.

Endorsements to check

  • 01

    Blanket additional insured

Adds anyone you’ve agreed in a written contract to add, on the endorsement’s terms. It can save a new endorsement for each customer, but the contract and the wording still have to match.

  • 02

    Scheduled additional insured

Names a specific party on the policy. Each new party needs the insurer to issue another endorsement.

  • 03

    Completed operations

Extends additional insured status to claims after your work is done. It can be a separate endorsement from ongoing operations.

Generate your certificate in Spot

  • 01

Choose the policy with the endorsement

Pick the policy that now carries the additional insured endorsement.

  • 02

Add the party as certificate holder

Enter the name and address of the party being added.

  • 03

    Add the contract’s wording

Upload the request or paste the clause, so the description refers to the endorsement and the contract.

  • 04

    Review, then send it

Check that the certificate marks additional insured on the right policy, then download it or send it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • 01

Marking it on a certificate without the endorsement

A certificate only reports the policy. Saying “additional insured” there without an endorsement gives the other party nothing.

  • 02

    Assuming blanket wording covers everyone

Blanket endorsements usually need a written contract, and some apply only to certain work. Check yours against the request.

  • 03

    Covering only work in progress

If the contract asks for cover after your work ends, an ongoing-operations endorsement alone won’t meet it.

Common questions

What does an additional insured get?

Coverage under your policy for claims arising from your work or operations, to the extent the endorsement describes. It doesn’t make them a policyholder.

Can I add an additional insured myself in the Spot app?

You generate the certificate yourself, but the endorsement itself comes from your insurer. Your Spot team requests it through your broker and insurer, and the certificate then shows it.

Does adding an additional insured cost extra?

Sometimes. Some insurers charge for scheduled or blanket endorsements, and some include them. Your Spot team asks your broker before you agree to the request.

Do I need to switch brokers for this?

No. Your broker stays on the policy and issues the endorsement with the insurer, and Spot takes no commissions on premiums.
