Risklytics vs USI Insurance Services

When a robotics or autonomy specialist broker is a better fit than USI’s general technology practice—and what remains unverified.

Introduction

A company shipping autonomous hardware has a different submission than a pure software firm. Risklytics positions around robotics, autonomy, and intellectual-property-heavy products, including space. USI’s Technology page lists hardware among several technology verticals but does not specialize the public catalogue in intellectual-property insurance or space the way Risklytics’ pages do. Both still need a confirmed California producer route before a California bind. 2 21

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Risklytics Shines

  • Risklytics says it prepares the application from your business description and website for your review. 1
  • Risklytics says it reviews technology E&O wording for AI exclusions before binding. 8

Where USI Insurance Services Shines

  • USI’s Technology practice says it works with software, hardware and related companies from early seed stage through IPO. 13,21,32
  • USI says it is customarily paid insurer commissions and may receive additional contingent compensation, with details available on request. 19

Key Differences Between Risklytics and USI

Specialist Book Versus Practice Vertical

If the first question is product intellectual property and prototype hardware in transit, Risklytics’ published intellectual-property and inland-marine-adjacent catalogue is the more specific public match. If the file is a standard software stack plus benefits, USI’s broader middle-market practice is the closer public match. Either broker might still decline. 9 21

Catalogue Emphasis

Risklytics lists intellectual property as a coverage line. USI’s Technology list does not use that product name; advising on intellectual-property risk on the USI page is not the same as a placed intellectual-property policy. Do not treat a missing public label as proof USI cannot obtain the insurance; ask in the quote. 9 21

Licensing Evidence

Risklytics’ cited California producer evidence is incomplete. USI prints a California license number without California Department of Insurance verification on the practice pages used here. For a California-domiciled robotics company, that is the same class of unresolved issue on both sides—resolve it in the quote, not from office photos. 11 33

How Placement Is Described

Risklytics emphasizes application preparation and wording review. USI emphasizes USI ONE planning. Ask each to mark up the same customer contract clause. 6 14

Fees

Risklytics’ pricing page is the place to test fee versus commission. USI’s default is commission. Get both in writing. 5 19

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • California producer authority and surplus-lines broker identity. 11 33
  • Intellectual property, space, and prototype property forms—not just general liability. 10
  • Named markets; Risklytics discusses market access without a full panel, as does USI. 4 26
  • Claims support contacts for a hardware loss versus a professional claim. 7 30

Service Comparison

Risklytics vs USI: documented services and availability

CriteriaRisklyticsUSI Insurance Services
Customer focus

Risklytics markets to robotics, autonomous-vehicle, hardware, AI software and agent businesses, with additional industry pages for drones, space and defense contractors. Its emphasis is on explaining unfamiliar operations to insurance underwriters. 2,4

USI says it has served over 500,000 clients nationwide and positions itself as a middle-market brokerage and consulting firm. Its Technology practice describes clients including software, hardware, networking, semiconductors, or communications companies from early seed stage through IPO. Public pages do not publish a minimum revenue, headcount, or California-startup eligibility screen. 13,21,32

Coverage lines

Risklytics says it places general liability, technology errors and omissions (E&O), cyber, directors and officers, commercial property, inland marine equipment, workers’ compensation, umbrella, intellectual property and space insurance. These are advertised placement categories, not a single package or a guarantee of availability. 4

Risklytics says it reads technology E&O forms before binding and warns that AI exclusions can affect the result. Its product page is a general description, not a specimen policy or confirmation that a particular AI failure is covered. 8

The advertised IP line discusses both infringement defense and enforcement of owned rights. The space line discusses pre-launch hardware, launch, in-orbit risks and related liability. Neither description establishes that every component is included in a quoted policy. 9,10,4

USI’s Technology practice lists insurance placement for property; business income and contingent business income; worldwide cargo and stock; errors and omissions; product liability; directors and officers liability; network security / USI PrivaSafe; and international. Those labels describe brokerage services. Limits, exclusions, insurer, and whether a given startup qualifies remain in a quote and policy. 21,26

USI’s commercial property and casualty pages describe advice and placement on workers’ compensation, property, general liability, auto liability, umbrella/excess, executive and professional risks, cyber, environmental, product liability, and related claims and risk-control services. Other industry pages add employment practices, crime, fiduciary, professional E&O, kidnap and ransom, representations and warranties, medical professional (malpractice) liability, and required bonding in the healthcare practice. Availability and wording vary by client, insurer, and jurisdiction. 20,22,23,24,28

USI’s employee-benefits practice describes consulting to design, price, and administer employer benefit programs, including underwriting analytics, HR administration support, population health, compliance/healthcare reform guidance, pharmacy and ancillary consulting. The private-equity practice separately lists employee health and welfare insurance services after a transaction. These pages describe consulting and placement services, not a specific insured health plan or carrier. 25,23

Availability

Risklytics publishes agency NPN 22311838 and Massachusetts resident license 3004393145. Its state table, dated September 10, 2026, also lists Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Washington. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified licenses or product eligibility. 2

California is absent from the reviewed agency-license table. A California-authorized producer and product route remain unconfirmed in the reviewed disclosures; this does not establish that Risklytics cannot arrange California coverage. Confirm the responsible producer, authority and insurer for your operation before relying on a quote. 2,3,11

USI states that it is headquartered at 100 Summit Lake Drive, Suite 400, Valhalla, New York, with more than 10,000 professionals across over 200 U.S. offices, and that it serves every state. That is a company description of its office network and service footprint. It does not, by itself, establish that a particular commercial product is admitted, surplus-lines, or otherwise available in California or any other named state. 15,13,16,12

A USI Insurance Services LLC staff biography lists a San Francisco office and prints CA DOI License # 0G11911. The reviewed usi.com practice pages do not state which commercial products are available to California-domiciled startups, whether placements are admitted or surplus lines, or which licensed entity would appear on a California policy. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. A California office address is not treated as product eligibility. 33,21,20,15

Application process

Risklytics says it drafts an application using your description and public business information, including your website, for you to check and sign. It advertises Slack and email placement updates. The application-preparation process and its speed were not tested. 1

Risklytics says it reviews the application with you, approaches suitable insurers and reads quote wording before making a recommendation. Its FAQ says the insurer binds after you accept a quote; timing varies with the coverage and operation. 6

USI does not publish a self-serve commercial quote flow on the reviewed pages. Technology and P&C inquiries are directed to pcinquiries@usi.com or a local office. The contact page includes a website message box that USI warns is not secured in transit and should not be used for sensitive information. Small- and medium-sized management-liability inquiries are also directed to Select.Business@usi.com. No public binding timetable or online eligibility tool was found. 21,20,16,28

Fees and compensation

Risklytics advertises no application charge or additional brokerage fee, says carriers pay commission from premiums, and offers to disclose its earnings on request. Its terms separately allow carrier or wholesaler compensation and carrier-set taxes and policy fees. No buyer-specific premium or commission amount is published on the pricing page. 5,3

Unless otherwise negotiated, USI says compensation for placing coverage is customarily a commission calculated as a percentage of premium and paid by the insurer. It may also receive additional monetary and non-monetary compensation from insurers or intermediaries (including affiliates), which can be contingent on volume, profitability, or other factors, and some agreements include growth or distribution incentives. Clients may request the nature and source of expected compensation, including on alternative quotes. Standard commission percentages and fee schedules for startup accounts are not published. 19
