The Online Route Has Product Boundaries
The Hartford says eligible buyers can purchase online or by phone without an independent agent, while also offering agent access. Its small-business commercial auto page does not offer that coverage through the same online path, and management-liability materials direct buyers to an agent. Gallagher’s public small-business form starts an advisor inquiry. Ask how any separately handled line will be coordinated with the initial policy. 20 30 32 8
A Cyber Add-on and Technology E&O Are Different Proposals
The Hartford distinguishes a BOP cyber endorsement, CyberChoice First Response and the FailSafe Technology E&O suite. Gallagher’s technology practice describes combined cyber and technology E&O placements. Ask which exact product addresses liability for the software or services you deliver; “cyber included” does not by itself answer that question. 26 27 2
Read the California EPL Footnotes Before Relying on Bundling
The Hartford’s employment-practices page states there is no built-in EPL coverage in California, Minnesota, North Dakota or New York, and that the EPL program described on that page does not apply to EPL coverage written in California. Coverages also vary by state and class. 29Company footnotes on the EPLI page, last updated 26 November 2025, rechecked 16 September 2026. This does not establish whether a California buyer can buy stand-alone or differently structured EPL.
This restriction doesn’t mean every Hartford EPL option is unavailable in California. It does mean a buyer should request the actual California form rather than carry a national built-in-coverage statement into the quote. Gallagher’s executive-risk practice offers an avenue to discuss EPL alongside D&O and fiduciary risks, with eligibility still to be confirmed. 29 3
The Hartford’s California page markets specific small-business lines, and a named insurer has regulator-confirmed authority. Neither establishes that every SaaS applicant or specialty form is accepted. 16 41
What Should You Confirm in Gallagher and The Hartford Quotes?
- Which requested lines are included in the online proposal, and which need an agent or separate application?
- Obtain the technology E&O and cyber forms, not just a bundle label or certificate.
- What EPL coverage, if any, is actually offered for the California company?
- Identify the issuing affiliate and separate producer charges. The Hartford discloses potential producer fees outside premium; Gallagher also discloses fees and commissions. 38 4
