CFC vs USI Insurance Services

Compare CFC technology insurance with USI’s technology brokerage and PrivaSafe program for a company reviewing cyber and operational risks together.

Introduction

A finance lead preparing renewal may want to know whether a technology policy addresses the company’s largest risks or whether the whole risk plan needs work. CFC presents technology and cyber products; USI combines brokerage with a stated analytics and planning process. Compare the proposed insurance first, then the usefulness and scope of the advisory work around it. 1 9 39 32

Key Differences Between CFC and USI Insurance Services

PrivaSafe Is a Program Name, Not the Identity of an Insurer

USI markets PrivaSafe as a manuscripted cyber and privacy program. CFC markets technology E&O and cyber features in a technology package as well as a separate cyber range. A useful comparison asks whether the USI proposal joins technology liability with cyber or coordinates distinct contracts, and compares triggers, exclusions and limits accordingly. The marketing labels alone do not answer that question. 44 39 2 9

The reviewed USI sources do not identify the issuing insurer for those placements. CFC’s particular California technology issuer is also unresolved. USI’s historical claims-contact directory must not be treated as a current market panel; obtain the insurer directly from each proposal. 48 44

CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. 4,2,3

Risk Planning Should Produce Decisions the Finance Team Can Use

USI describes USI ONE as combining analytics, specialists and planning, and PATH as a risk-control platform with loss drivers and vendor options. CFC describes monitoring, alerts and cyber incident-response services. These descriptions support different questions: what risk investments should the business prioritize, and what security support comes with the policy? Neither establishes savings or service outcomes for this company. 32 47 7

USI’s technology practice also lists property, business income, cargo, product liability and international placements. That makes it relevant to a wider operational review, but does not mean every listed line belongs in the buyer’s program or that the same insurer provides them. CFC’s technology application similarly requires a concrete account of products and operations before its product can be evaluated. 39 3

Corporate Announcements Should Not Replace Account Commitments

Aon’s August 2026 announcement says it agreed to acquire USI and that the firms would operate independently until closing. The shared evidence does not establish completion. Ask USI about the proposed account team and agreement without treating the announcement as either a service improvement or a disruption already experienced. 50

For both routes, California authority and actual product access still need checking. USI’s company-issued license reference and CFC’s regulatory disclosures are different forms of evidence, but neither resolves every California policy in a proposed program. 51 4

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • What are the PrivaSafe and technology E&O forms, named insurers and California placement classifications?
  • Which risk-planning or security services are included, what deliverables will finance receive, and what requires additional payment?
  • Who owns the renewal and claims relationship, and would any later corporate integration change that agreement?

Service Comparison

CFC vs USI Insurance Services: documented services and availability

CriteriaCFCUSI Insurance Services
Business role

CFC is a specialist insurance provider operating an MGA model: a managing general agent performs underwriting functions for insurance capacity providers. Its disclosures identify CFC Underwriting Limited and the U.S. producer CFC USA, Inc.; the CFC brand should not be treated as the name of every policy’s insurer. 5,4

USI describes itself as a U.S. insurance brokerage and consulting firm that arranges property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk, program, and retirement solutions. The reviewed official pages do not identify USI as the insurer that issues commercial policies. 31,30,37,50

USI’s commissions page states that, as a licensed insurance producer, it may advise on insurance contracts, sell insurance, and obtain coverages for clients. Privacy and staff materials identify the operating company as USI Insurance Services LLC. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. 37,36,51

On 31 August 2026, Aon plc announced a definitive agreement to acquire USI from KKR and other shareholders for a $17.0 billion purchase price, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 subject to customary conditions including regulatory approvals. Aon stated that Aon and USI will continue to operate independently until the closing date. The reviewed announcement does not establish that the transaction has closed. 50

Coverage lines

CFC’s U.S. technology brochure describes errors and omissions, cyber, media/IP infringement and general liability protection, including liability arising from client contract breaches. The brochure describes a package; the quote and wording determine which sections and exclusions apply. 2

CFC’s U.S. cyber catalogue lists Cyber Proactive Response, admitted cyber, Corporate cyber and cyber excess. These are distinct offerings; an admitted label on the website does not establish California eligibility or identical wording across products. 9

CFC markets management liability covering directors and officers, employment practices, fiduciary exposures and crime, and separately lists Side A DIC excess protection for directors and officers. Its U.S. management-liability brochure declines California-domiciled business; do not read these catalogue entries as California availability. 10,11

CFC separately markets intellectual-property insurance for infringement defense, enforcement and related IP risks, including patent exposures. Its scope should be compared with the narrower IP provisions in any technology quote. 14,2

CFC offers fintech insurance combining financial and technology liability with other financial-sector risks, eHealth for digital-health businesses, and life-science packages for businesses such as device or drug developers and nutraceutical companies. These sector products require their own underwriting and terms. 23,19,22

CFC’s U.S. product pages also market professional E&O, property and general liability, media liability, medical malpractice, product recall, kidnap and ransom, and umbrella protection over professional liability, general liability or cyber. This catalogue does not mean every line is included in a technology policy or available for every California risk. 12,13,21,20,16,15,18

CFC markets representations and warranties insurance, small-business buyer and seller protection, and secondary-liquidity transaction solutions. These are transaction-specific products rather than ordinary operating-company liability coverage. 17

Other CFC specialty offerings include carbon-credit delivery, cancellation and lender non-payment insurance; a CORSIA guarantee product; standalone sexual abuse and molestation liability through Safeprotect; terrorism insurance; and marine hull-war and kidnap-and-ransom cover. Their presence on the U.S. site does not resolve California placement eligibility. 25,26,27,28

USI’s Technology practice lists insurance placement for property; business income and contingent business income; worldwide cargo and stock; errors and omissions; product liability; directors and officers liability; network security / USI PrivaSafe; and international. Those labels describe brokerage services. Limits, exclusions, insurer, and whether a given startup qualifies remain in a quote and policy. 39,44

USI’s commercial property and casualty pages describe advice and placement on workers’ compensation, property, general liability, auto liability, umbrella/excess, executive and professional risks, cyber, environmental, product liability, and related claims and risk-control services. Other industry pages add employment practices, crime, fiduciary, professional E&O, kidnap and ransom, representations and warranties, medical professional (malpractice) liability, and required bonding in the healthcare practice. Availability and wording vary by client, insurer, and jurisdiction. 38,40,41,42,46

USI’s employee-benefits practice describes consulting to design, price, and administer employer benefit programs, including underwriting analytics, HR administration support, population health, compliance/healthcare reform guidance, pharmacy and ancillary consulting. The private-equity practice separately lists employee health and welfare insurance services after a transaction. These pages describe consulting and placement services, not a specific insured health plan or carrier. 43,41

Access to insurers

CFC’s regulatory page identifies Lloyd’s Syndicate 1988, managed by Asta Managing Agency Ltd. The reviewed U.S. technology materials do not name the insurer or participating syndicates for a California buyer’s actual policy; ask for those names on the quote and declarations. 4,2,3

USI’s reviewed product and PrivaSafe pages do not name the insurers that issue its commercial, technology, or cyber placements. Privacy materials say USI may disclose personal information to third-party insurance carriers as needed to provide insurance services. A 2021 claims kit lists many insurer claim-reporting contacts for clients who already have those carriers; that directory is not a current placement panel or underwriting list. 44,39,38,36,48

Servicing and renewals

CFC says its cyber service includes threat monitoring and alerts, a response app and round-the-clock technical incident support. These are company-described services; access, scope and any conditions should be checked against the proposed policy. 7

The reviewed Connect and technology application pages do not specify a customer-facing renewal timetable, certificate turnaround or dedicated account-management commitment for California technology buyers. Confirm those arrangements with the placing broker. 6,3

USI describes USI ONE as a proprietary consultative process that combines Omni analytics, a national network of specialists, and an enterprise planning process. Technology and P&C pages say clients receive tailored recommendations aimed at total cost of risk. Those are company descriptions of advisory method, not independently verified service outcomes. 32,39,38

USI PATH is described as a proprietary risk-control platform that presents industry loss drivers, improvement areas by coverage line, and curated vendor solutions with preferred pricing and ROI projections. The homepage also markets PATH as guiding clients through risk control from identifying sources of loss to targeting solutions. Performance, ROI, and premium-reduction claims on those pages are company-reported. 47,30
