Beazley vs Corgi

Compare a Beazley technology policy with a Corgi startup package when a customer contract adds insurer and IP requirements.

Introduction

A first enterprise customer can turn insurance from a budget line into a contract negotiation. Beazley’s MediaTech combines technology and professional errors and omissions (E&O), media and cyber risks. Corgi organizes insurance into startup-stage packages and markets a Tech & AI Liability module. The decision is whether the offered contracts cover your work and satisfy the customer’s insurer requirements, not which package sounds more startup-specific. 1 22 28

Where Each Provider Shines

Key Differences Between Beazley and Corgi

A Combined Technology Form Versus a Stage-Based Package

Beazley’s technology combination and its separate Execuguard executive-risk package create two different coverage discussions. Corgi’s startup packages list technology, cyber and management lines together. That can change how you organize a submission, but it does not show that a Corgi package uses one policy or that a Beazley proposal requires more applications. Request the policy schedule and shared-limit structure rather than comparing package names. 1 10 22

For an AI-enabled software business, the IP clause deserves its own review. Beazley’s linked February 2019 MediaTech sample contains patent and product-related trade-secret exclusions. Corgi’s Tech & AI label does not establish broader protection for those allegations. Put the customer’s actual indemnity language beside the current proposed forms; the older Beazley sample is a reason to ask, not the contract you will necessarily receive. 3 5 28

The Insurer Behind the Proposal

Corgi Insurance Services is the producer, and its disclosures distinguish affiliated and partner insurers. If Technology Risk Retention Group is proposed, Corgi says it has no AM Best rating. A claim about access to rated admitted partners should not be substituted for evidence about the actual issuer. 21

Beazley’s posted MediaTech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc., while the group describes other underwriting routes. The shared research does not establish a current California MediaTech route. Ask both sellers to identify the precise insurer and give your customer the evidence needed to assess its contractual requirements before buying. 2 7 5

Budgeting Beyond the Advertised Package

Corgi publishes illustrative startup price bands and permits commissions or fees; neither establishes your total price. Beazley’s reviewed MediaTech materials supply no buyer-specific fee schedule. Compare a complete technology-and-management proposal against the same coverage scope, including what remains to be bought separately. A cheaper subtotal is not evidence of cheaper equivalent insurance. 22 21 1 6

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which policy parts satisfy the customer’s technology, cyber and management requirements, and which share limits? 22 10
  • How do the current forms treat patent allegations, trade secrets and contractual indemnities for your AI-enabled product? 28 3
  • Which insurer and California placement basis will appear on each policy, and what written event makes coverage effective? Corgi’s disclosures describe both issuance/payment and temporary-binder conditions, so obtain the applicable sequence. 21 2 5

Service Comparison

Beazley vs Corgi: documented services and availability

CriteriaBeazleyCorgi
Business role

Beazley is a specialty insurance group operating through insurance companies and underwriting businesses. Its US disclosures distinguish the insurance entities from Beazley USA Services, Inc., which reports doing business in California as Beazley Insurance Services under license 0G55497. This is a company disclosure, not an independently verified license record. 5,6,7

Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. 21,22,24

Access to insurers

The posted Digital Media Tech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc. Beazley’s broader disclosures also describe surplus-lines business through Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance, Inc. or Beazley-managed Lloyd’s syndicates. The actual MediaTech insurer and California placement basis must be identified in the quote. 2,7

Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 21

Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 37,21,23,22,38,39

A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 38,39,41

For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 21,23,22,29

Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 21,25

Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 29,42

Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 40,22,21

Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 21,34

Application process

Beazley describes MediaTech placement through third-party platforms or email. Its posted application requests the business’s services and products, employee count, US and non-US revenues, financial statements and expected business changes. A submitted application does not establish acceptance or an effective policy. 1,2

You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 22,21

Fees and compensation

The reviewed MediaTech product page, application and US website terms do not disclose a buyer-specific premium, broker commission rate or fee schedule for a MediaTech placement. Obtain an itemized quote and the placing broker’s compensation disclosure. 1,2,6

Corgi Insurance Services may receive commissions or fees from the insurer or the customer. You can ask for the type and amount of compensation on your policy. 21

Corgi lists typical annual prices of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed and seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A companies. Your price depends on the business, state, coverage, limits, and other underwriting details. 22,26,27
