Beazley vs
Relm Insurance
Compare retaining Beazley MediaTech with Relm’s AI developer, excess-wrap and operational-loss products.
Introduction
An AI business may already have a technology policy but discover three different concerns: its own product liability, exclusions in existing coverage and interruption caused by a third-party model. Beazley’s MediaTech addresses technology and related liabilities. Relm markets separate AI products for those different roles. This comparison starts with the gap the business is trying to address, rather than assuming every AI-labelled policy replaces the existing program. 1 26

Key Differences Between Beazley and Relm Insurance
Replacement and Supplement Require Different Submissions
Relm describes NOVAAI as cyber and technology E&O for developers. PONTAAI is described as an excess difference-in-conditions wrap for AI-related gaps in existing liability programs. If the aim is to retain a Beazley policy and add protection, the PONTAAI discussion needs the actual underlying forms and endorsements. Its marketing does not guarantee that it fills a particular Beazley exclusion or pays before underlying limits are exhausted. 27 28 3
The available Beazley sample is older and includes contractual and IP restrictions. Compare current quoted wording rather than treating those historical terms as the final gap schedule. For NOVAAI, ask separately whether changing the primary policy preserves prior-acts and reporting continuity. 3 2 27
The Company’s Own Loss Is Another Question
RESCAAI targets businesses using third-party AI and advertises first-party response for interruption, reputational harm and other specified losses. That is distinct from a customer suing the startup over its own AI service. Beazley’s MediaTech package includes cyber-related components, but the reviewed summary does not establish equivalence with RESCAAI’s advertised triggers. Ask the broker to trace one supplier-model failure through both proposed policies. 29 1
The US Issuer Cannot Be Borrowed from Another Program
Relm identifies a Bermuda insurer and a separate US producer/MGA operation. Its California producer disclosure does not establish the AI products’ issuer or surplus-lines route. The Trisura fronting announcement concerns US digital-asset risks and should not be used to name the carrier for a California AI quotation. Beazley’s California MediaTech route also remains unresolved in the reviewed material. 22 23 30 5
Relm publishes claims-team and response contacts, while Beazley directs buyers to policy notice requirements. If a wrap is proposed, establish who receives notice at each layer and whether the same incident requires separate reports. Published service targets are not evidence of a covered loss or measured performance. 32 33 8
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Is the proposal a replacement, excess wrap or first-party policy, and what triggers attachment or any drop-down? 27 28 29
- Which current Beazley terms are being supplemented, and how are overlapping losses allocated? 3 28
- Who issues and places each California policy, what total charges apply, and where must each layer receive notice? 22 33 8
Service Comparison
Beazley vs Relm Insurance: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Beazley | Relm Insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Beazley is a specialty insurance group operating through insurance companies and underwriting businesses. Its US disclosures distinguish the insurance entities from Beazley USA Services, Inc., which reports doing business in California as Beazley Insurance Services under license 0G55497. This is a company disclosure, not an independently verified license record. 5,6,7 | Relm Insurance is a specialty insurance business serving emerging industries, including artificial intelligence. Its Bermuda insurer and US distribution operation have distinct roles. 21,23,22 Relm identifies Relm Insurance Ltd. as its Bermuda-regulated insurer and Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. as a US licensed producer. It describes its US operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with delegated insurance authority. The Bermuda entity says it deals only through appropriately licensed brokers. 22,23 |
| Coverage lines | MediaTech combines technology and professional errors and omissions, media liability and cyber coverage. Beazley lists breach response, business interruption, dependent business interruption, extortion, data recovery and eCrime protections, with limits up to $5 million; the issued policy determines the cover purchased. 1 The linked MediaTech sample form is dated February 2019. It excludes patent infringement and trade-secret misappropriation related to technology or other products, and contains contractual-liability and retroactive-date restrictions. The sample is not evidence of the wording that will be offered today. 3,5 Execuguard offers private-company directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary liability, with separate or shared limits across selected coverages. Beazley advertises both admitted and non-admitted options; state and account eligibility still need confirmation. 10 Beazley offers Commercial Crime for commercial companies and Financial Fidelity Bonds for financial institutions. Its crime page describes fraudulent-instruction coverage subject to out-of-band authentication, with possible removal of that condition for documented controls and an additional premium. 11 Virtual Care lists healthcare professional liability, technology liability, cyber, media, general liability and products/completed operations for digital-health businesses. Life Sciences offers product, professional and general liability through BioSecure, NutraGuard and WellTech forms for different life-sciences exposures. 13,14 North American Commercial Property targets mid-sized and large commercial properties on an excess and surplus lines basis. Product Recall – Manufacturing Risk and Response separately addresses consumer goods, component parts and consumables, including product-removal and related income-loss costs. 15,16 BeazleyOne Environmental combines general, professional and contractors’ pollution liability for environmental-service firms, and lists hired and non-owned auto. US Marine offers hull and marine liability on primary and excess bases; this does not establish general corporate umbrella availability. 17,18 Beazley offers representations and warranties coverage for acquisitions. Its US Specialty Programs business works through managing general agents, program administrators and specialized brokers on professional, general, product, manufacturers’ E&O, cyber and allied-medical liability programs. 12,19 The posted Digital Media Tech application says liability coverage is claims-made and reported: the claim must be made and reported within the applicable policy terms. It also warns that claims expenses reduce the liability limit and are subject to retentions. 2 | Relm describes NOVAAI as cyber and technology errors and omissions insurance for AI platforms and developers. Its advertised protections include AI product and service liability, AI-generated content disputes, bias allegations and regulatory exposures; fines are covered only where legally insurable. These descriptions are not the terms of an issued policy. 27,26 Relm markets PONTAAI as an excess difference-in-conditions wrap for AI-related gaps in existing liability programs. Its description includes negligence, intellectual-property infringement, discrimination and other AI liabilities. Whether it fills a particular exclusion depends on the underlying policies and the quoted wrap wording. 28 Relm describes RESCAAI as first-party response insurance for businesses using third-party AI in operations or products. Advertised benefits address business interruption, reputational harm, AI-related product recall expenses and incident response, subject to the policy’s triggers and terms. 29 Relm’s wider catalogue lists D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability, professional E&O, media liability, crime, cyber, technology E&O, general and product liability, excess liability, property, inland marine, contract surety and kidnap and ransom. It also lists digital-asset crime, slashing and smart-contract risks. These are advertised lines, not a California eligibility list. 24 Relm’s tailored-product catalogue also identifies digital-asset and Web3 packages, fintech products for technology and financial-services providers, and space products for upstream and downstream businesses. Its kidnap and ransom announcement targets digital-asset and cannabis individuals and organizations. 25,34 |
| Availability | The reviewed MediaTech product page, application and US legal disclosures do not establish a current California-specific MediaTech form, admitted or surplus-lines route, or applicant eligibility. A California trade-name and license disclosure alone does not answer those product questions. 1,2,5,6 Beazley says its M&A team can underwrite and place transactions in all 50 US states. That company-reported statement includes California for M&A, but does not establish MediaTech availability or acceptance of a particular transaction. 12 | Relm’s legal page lists California insurance producer license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. This is company-reported and was not independently verified in a regulator record; that row does not list a California surplus-lines license. 22 The reviewed AI product, US MGA and legal pages do not establish the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, or placing broker for a California NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI policy. California product availability remains to be confirmed for the applicant. 22,23,26 |
| Access to insurers | The posted Digital Media Tech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc. Beazley’s broader disclosures also describe surplus-lines business through Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance, Inc. or Beazley-managed Lloyd’s syndicates. The actual MediaTech insurer and California placement basis must be identified in the quote. 2,7 | Relm’s fronting announcement names Trisura Specialty Insurance Company in connection with US digital-asset risks, including D&O, cyber, technology E&O and crime. A fronting insurer issues the policy while another insurer supplies risk capacity. This announcement does not establish Trisura as the issuer of every Relm product or of a California AI policy. 30 |
