Wyoming Umbrella and Excess Liability Guide

The Wyoming Department of Transportation says any person who drives on a roadway maintained for public use must carry liability insurance of at least 25,000/50,000/20,000. A driver in an accident that causes more than $1,000 in property damage, or injury to a person who is not in the driver’s immediate household, must provide proof of current liability insurance. If Driver Services cannot confirm coverage, the law requires a suspension of driving privileges regardless of fault or residency. The department’s insurance-verification page, citing W.S. 31-4-103(e), says the online verification program applies to vehicles covered by personal lines insurance and that vehicles covered by a commercial insurance policy are exempt from that program. An umbrella over a private passenger auto can use the 25/50/20 figure as the statutory floor. An umbrella over a commercial auto is not answered by the verification exemption. 1,2

What Is Umbrella And Excess Liability?

Umbrella or excess insurance adds liability limits above the policies named in the quote after a covered claim exhausts their limits. It may fit if a contract sets higher limits; check which primary policies are listed and any gaps between them. Read the national Umbrella and excess liability guide.

Wyoming Requirements

RequirementDetails
Liability insurance for driving on a public roadwayDriver Services states the minimum as 25,000/50,000/20,000. That is the liability insurance the department says the law requires for a person who drives on a roadway maintained for public use. It is not an umbrella minimum. A commercial policy’s exemption from the verification program is not an exemption from carrying liability insurance. 1,2

What to Watch for in Wyoming

  • An accident over $1,000, or an injury outside the household, triggers a proof demand

The department says drivers in an accident that causes over $1,000 in property damage, or injury to a person not in the immediate household, must provide proof of current liability insurance. If the online system cannot confirm coverage, driving privileges are suspended regardless of fault or residency. The suspension letter lists the other party, the damage amount, and the date the suspension begins. An umbrella does not substitute for the proof Driver Services is asking to see. 1

  • Four documents can stop the suspension, and a started suspension adds an SR-22 and a $50 fee

To prevent or end an uninsured-accident suspension, Driver Services lists four options: a verified SR-21 showing liability insurance at the time of the accident, completed by the agent or company and not a copy of the policy; security by certified check or an assigned certificate of deposit in the amount on the letter; a notarized release from the other party or that party’s insurer naming the date and the parties; or a notarized conditional release showing payments for the damages. If the suspension is allowed to begin, an SR-22 filing and a $50 reinstatement fee are required. 1

  • Commercial policies are outside the verification program, not outside the liability question

The verification page says the program applies to all vehicles covered by personal lines insurance, and that vehicles covered by a commercial insurance policy are exempt from the verification program. Do not read that sentence as permission to drop commercial auto liability. It means the online check described under W.S. 31-4-103(e) is not the tool that confirms a commercial policy. Schedule the umbrella from the commercial declarations, and do not assume a failed personal-lines lookup says anything about a fleet policy. 2

Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Umbrella and excess liability; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm the product is available in Wyoming. Check the regulator’s license lookup and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

    Insurance producer · checked 2026-09-28

Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability. 10

  • TechInsurance

    Specialty Program Group LLC

    Insurance producer · checked 2026-09-28

TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map. 13

TechInsurance arranges commercial umbrella insurance for small businesses.

  • Vouch

    Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC

    Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker · checked 2026-09-28

Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. Because those statements conflict for Idaho, this record keeps Idaho producer-only and does not treat the table number as established agency surplus-lines authority. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability. 14
