Mississippi inland marine insurance for shipments and jobsite equipment

Mississippi Insurance Department Rule 2.04 reprints nationwide-definition subclasses for inland marine. Consigned domestic shipments may be covered in transit, in another's custody, and while being returned, but not while on premises the consignor owns, leases, or operates. Builders' risk and installation risks are in that class only when the policy covers perils in addition to fire and extended coverage. A separate checklist says a company that has developed manual rates for an inland marine class should make an informational filing. 1,2

What Is Tools, Equipment And Inland Marine?

If your business moves equipment between sites or ships goods, inland marine can cover those property exposures; installation and other forms address different property categories. Match the quote to what you own, rent or hold for others. Read the national Tools, equipment and inland marine guide.

What to Watch for in Mississippi

  • Consignor Premises Are Outside the Consignment Class

Rule 2.04 says domestic shipments on consignment are covered in transit, in the custody of others, and while being returned, and in no event while on premises owned, leased, or operated by the consignor. Tell the insurer who holds the goods at each stop. The rule is a classification boundary, not a promise that your policy pays. 1

  • Ordinary Shipments Stop at the Buyer's Premises

Domestic shipments that are not on consignment must involve transportation hazards, begin and end in the United States, and are not covered at manufacturing premises or after arrival at premises owned, leased, or operated by the assured or the purchaser. Ask when transit cover ends if the goods sit in your warehouse after delivery. 1

  • Installation Floaters Need More Than Fire and Extended Coverage

The builders' risk and installation class covers the owner, seller, or contractor interest in machinery, equipment, building materials, or supplies during installation, testing, building, renovating, or repairing, including the work site, transit, and temporary storage, only where perils in addition to fire and extended coverage are insured. Owner coverage ceases on completion and acceptance. Seller or contractor coverage ends when that interest ceases. 1

  • Manual Rates Are an Informational Filing

The Department checklist says rates, rules, and forms need not be filed for inland marine risks that by general custom are not written to manual rates or rating plans. Its position is that a company with developed manual rates for a class should make an informational filing, stamped Acknowledged and Filed, with no filing fee. Guaranteed auto protection, credit property, collateral protection, and involuntary unemployment are not inland marine for that checklist. The posted rule still refers to the 2011 code revision. 2

Surplus-lines tax and stamping office

Reported tax rate: 4% premium tax and 0.25% stamping fee on gross premium and policy fees when Mississippi is the insured's home state; MSLA says do not report if Mississippi is not the home state unless 100% of premium is allocated to Mississippi. A separate 3% MWUA fee applies to gross premium and policy fees except residential flood and earthquake. For policies quoted or bound on or after July 1, 2017, Mississippi no longer requires a general diligent search before surplus-lines placement. If Mississippi is the insured's home state, the published charges are 4% premium tax and a 0.25% stamping fee on gross premium and policy fees, plus a separate 3% MWUA fee except for residential flood and earthquake; Mississippi's required policy notice says a nonadmitted insurer is not protected by the Mississippi Insurance Guaranty Association if it becomes insolvent. 6,7,8,9,10

Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Tools, equipment and inland marine; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm the product is available in Mississippi. Check the regulator’s license lookup and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

  • TechInsuranceSpecialty Program Group LLCInsurance producer · checked 2026-09-28TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map. 16TechInsurance arranges inland marine coverage for contractors’ tools and equipment.
