Corgi vs
Relm Insurance
Compare a stage-based startup package with separate AI liability and operational-loss products.
Introduction
An AI startup buying its first board and customer-contract insurance has two different comparisons to make: the overall program and the AI protection within it. Corgi organizes coverage into startup-stage packages, while Relm separates developer liability, gaps in existing liability programs and the business’s own losses from third-party AI. Comparing only an “AI insurance” label misses that difference. 2 8 28

Key Differences Between Corgi and Relm Insurance
A Funding-Stage Package or an AI-Specific Submission
Corgi’s pre-seed, Series A and growth-stage packages give the finance team a starting structure for several obligations. Relm’s NOVAAI instead frames the submission around AI products and services, including generated-content disputes, bias and regulatory exposures. Neither a funding-stage label nor an AI label settles the insured-services definition. Compare the actual customer work described in each proposal. 2 29
If you already hold a startup package, Relm’s PONTAAI raises a different question: can an additional wrap address a particular AI gap without replacing the rest? RESCAAI concerns your own losses from third-party AI failures. Those are possible additions to investigate, not proof that a Corgi package needs them or that the products can be combined. 30 31 8
The Policy Name Matters More Than the Group Name
Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 1
Corgi’s record distinguishes Technology Risk Retention Group from its announced admitted carrier and partner insurers. Relm likewise distinguishes its Bermuda insurer from its US producer/MGA. A founder should request the issuer for each coverage part; neither brand identifies every contractual insurer. Relm’s Trisura announcement concerns US digital-asset risks and does not settle its California AI issuer. 1 9 24 32
Buying Quickly and Updating the Program
Corgi describes online applications and dashboard upgrades as funding, hiring and contracts change. Relm describes broker-led access, while its reviewed contact pages leave endorsement and renewal responsibilities unspecified. For a financing deadline, ask who can bind each proposed part and who must approve subsequent changes. Corgi’s advertised speed is not an independently tested binding commitment. 2 1 33 25
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Separate the package premium and limits from AI-specific protection; compare definitions, exclusions and defense-cost treatment before comparing totals. 8 29
- If considering a wrap, identify the underlying Corgi policy and the precise exclusion the proposed Relm wording would address. 30
- Obtain California placement confirmation and each insurer’s legal name, then document the binding date and process for adding new products or services. Relm’s current public record does not establish its California AI route. 1 24 28
Service Comparison
Corgi vs Relm Insurance: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Corgi | Relm Insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Application process | You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 2,1 | Relm provides an inquiry form requesting contact details, company name and location. Its US launch describes access through distribution partners, and the website states that Relm Insurance Ltd. deals through licensed brokers. The reviewed pages do not establish instant quoting or online binding. 33,25 |
| Access to insurers | Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 1 Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 17,1,3,2,18,19 A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 18,19,21 For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 1,3,2,9 Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 1,5 Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 9,22 Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 20,2,1 Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 1,14 | Relm’s fronting announcement names Trisura Specialty Insurance Company in connection with US digital-asset risks, including D&O, cyber, technology E&O and crime. A fronting insurer issues the policy while another insurer supplies risk capacity. This announcement does not establish Trisura as the issuer of every Relm product or of a California AI policy. 32 |
| Availability | Corgi Insurance Services lists agency licenses in 49 states and Washington, D.C.; New Mexico is not listed. Product availability varies by state and is subject to underwriting approval. 4,2,1 Rhode Island’s 23 June 2026 list of registered risk retention groups includes Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc., NAIC 17763, at 425 Bush Street, San Francisco. A complete list of states where TRRG is registered was not found in the reviewed sources. 16 | Relm’s legal page lists California insurance producer license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. This is company-reported and was not independently verified in a regulator record; that row does not list a California surplus-lines license. 24 The reviewed AI product, US MGA and legal pages do not establish the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, or placing broker for a California NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI policy. California product availability remains to be confirmed for the applicant. 24,25,28 |
| Servicing and renewals | Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as they raise funding, hire, or sign larger contracts. Renewal and cancellation terms depend on the policy and state rules. 2,1 | The reviewed contact and terms pages provide general-inquiry and complaint channels but do not explain a customer self-service portal, certificate turnaround, endorsement process or renewal timetable. Ask which tasks your broker, the MGA and the issuing insurer will handle. 33,35 |
