Coalition vs Relm Insurance

Compare AI exposures addressed through a cyber policy with Relm’s separate AI insurance structures.

Introduction

A company facing AI-generated impersonation and errors from an AI-enabled service should avoid treating every AI event as the same insurance risk. Coalition explains AI exposures through its existing cyber agreements and eligible Tech E&O, with a Deepfake Response endorsement. Relm separates developer liability, an AI liability wrap and first-party response to third-party AI failures. Start by describing the loss and who suffers it. 18 24

Key Differences Between Coalition and Relm Insurance

Follow the Insuring Agreement Behind the AI Label

Coalition's AI page maps scenarios to existing coverage, including media liability and Tech E&O for eligible businesses. NOVAAI instead presents a developer-focused combination of cyber and technology E&O with described AI exposures. Neither approach alone establishes coverage for an allegation about model output: compare the defined services, covered conduct and exclusions in the offered forms. 18 25

A business using an outside model also needs to distinguish liability to customers from its own interruption or recall costs. Relm markets RESCAAI for those first-party operational exposures. Coalition markets cyber business interruption, but that label does not establish that an AI failure without the requisite cyber trigger would qualify. The comparison requires a shared incident scenario and both policies' triggers. 27 7

Extra Limits and Gap Coverage Ask Different Questions

Coalition's excess offering sits above underlying cyber, with Tech E&O and MPL options; it requires underlying details and loss runs. Relm's PONTAAI is marketed as an excess difference-in-conditions AI wrap. Additional limit and a response to an exclusion are distinct objectives. Ask whether a proposed layer follows the primary decision or can respond under separately defined conditions. 14 26

Coalition documents admitted and surplus cyber routes in California, with Tech E&O listed under surplus coverage. That is more route information than Relm's reviewed AI materials establish, but it still does not identify the insurer or approve this applicant's Tech E&O form. 10 11 3 20

Monitoring Is a Service, Not Model-Performance Insurance

Coalition Control describes attack-surface and vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability guidance and conditional account integrations. Those tools address security operations; they do not establish a warranty that an AI model behaves correctly. Relm's operational-loss product also remains insurance subject to triggers, not a guarantee of model performance. Decide who will use the security services separately from deciding which losses the policy transfers. 8 27

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Map impersonation, customer output allegations and non-cyber model failure to specific agreements or endorsements. 18 24
  • For excess proposals, distinguish additional limits from an independently triggered response to an underlying AI exclusion. 14 26
  • Confirm insurer, California placement, required security integrations and which separately promoted services cost extra. 3 8 20

Service Comparison

Coalition vs Relm Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoalitionRelm Insurance
Business role

Coalition combines commercial insurance offerings with cyber risk-management services. In the United States, Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CIS) is the disclosed insurance producer and surplus lines broker; the issuing insurer is responsible for policy obligations. 2,7

Coalition lists CIS’s California producer and surplus lines license as 0L76155. This is a company disclosure; current license status has not been independently checked with the California regulator. 2

Coalition’s legal page identifies Coalition Incident Response, Inc., doing business as Coalition Security, or independent third parties as security-service providers. Coalition Security does not provide insurance. 2

Relm Insurance is a specialty insurance business serving emerging industries, including artificial intelligence. Its Bermuda insurer and US distribution operation have distinct roles. 19,21,20

Relm identifies Relm Insurance Ltd. as its Bermuda-regulated insurer and Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. as a US licensed producer. It describes its US operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with delegated insurance authority. The Bermuda entity says it deals only through appropriately licensed brokers. 20,21

Availability

Coalition states that Executive Risks is available to private and nonprofit U.S. organizations in all states and Washington, D.C., with up to $500 million in assets, 1,000 employees and $500 million in plan assets, subject to limitations. 5

Coalition’s help center states that admitted and surplus cyber policies are offered in all 50 states and D.C., including California. Its product comparison lists Tech E&O and MPL under surplus coverage. This documents a California cyber placement route, but does not establish approval or the exact Tech E&O form for a particular applicant. 10,11

Relm’s legal page lists California insurance producer license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. This is company-reported and was not independently verified in a regulator record; that row does not list a California surplus-lines license. 20

The reviewed AI product, US MGA and legal pages do not establish the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, or placing broker for a California NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI policy. California product availability remains to be confirmed for the applicant. 20,21,24

Servicing and renewals

Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 8

Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 15

The reviewed contact and terms pages provide general-inquiry and complaint channels but do not explain a customer self-service portal, certificate turnaround, endorsement process or renewal timetable. Ask which tasks your broker, the MGA and the issuing insurer will handle. 29,31

Claims assistance

Coalition describes in-house cyber claims triage and assistance attempting to recover stolen funds. Its Tech E&O page says the same claims team manages cyber and Tech E&O claims. These service descriptions do not establish response quality or payment of a particular loss. 9,1

Relm says its claims team manages claims and offers a dedicated concierge within 24 hours of notification. This is a company service statement, not an independently measured response or settlement record. Its terms name Crawford & Co. for global claims response and KSW for US response; confirm the notice instructions in the actual policy. 30,31
