Beazley vs Marsh

Compare Beazley specialty insurance with Marsh’s digital-infrastructure brokerage when a company moves from renting compute to operating facilities.

Introduction

Operating a data center adds equipment, power agreements and physical interruption exposures to an AI infrastructure company’s software business. Beazley markets MediaTech and separate property coverage. Marsh’s Technology Practice offers data-center risk and insurance services, including property, technology liability and surety discussions. This pair is useful for deciding how to assemble the facility program, not for comparing two interchangeable online policies. 1 15 24

Key Differences Between Beazley and Marsh

Facility Capacity Does Not Resolve Software Liability

Marsh’s Stratus is marketed as an operational property exchange for digital infrastructure. Its launch scope is property; possible later cyber or casualty lines should not be represented as current bundled coverage. Beazley’s MediaTech addresses a different liability discussion, while its property offering targets mid-sized and large excess-and-surplus risks. Ask whether the facility qualifies and how its property and technology policies divide an outage loss. 25 15 1

Marsh’s data-center service also discusses surety for power-purchase and interconnection obligations. That is a concrete difference in the documented buying agenda, not evidence that Beazley lacks any relevant capacity. Bring the power and customer contracts into the submission so the broker can identify which obligations require insurance, bonds or another arrangement. 24 20

The Broker Segment Determines the Engagement

Marsh’s US guide distinguishes core broking segments, Marsh McLennan Agency and affinity programs. MMA addresses middle-market businesses, but the record does not establish a startup minimum or promise that every applicant enters a particular team. Ask which business will handle the account and which legal entity signs the agreement; current public materials retain inconsistent Inc. and LLC names. 38 40 37

Marsh negotiates with insurers rather than becoming the policy issuer. Stratus participants evaluate risks individually, and its page does not name a universal insurer panel. A large advertised capacity figure does not establish the limit available to this facility or a Beazley placement through Marsh. 37 25

Fees and Claim Preparation Are Part of Program Design

Marsh’s compensation guide describes client fees, commissions and other remuneration, with different contingent-commission treatment for core US broking and MMA. Compare the actual engagement rather than applying one segment’s disclosure to another. Beazley’s reviewed product pages do not supply the broker-fee schedule for a placement. 38 15

Marsh describes claims preparation and advocacy, including forensic-accounting support for cyber losses. Beazley supplies insurer notice channels. For an outage involving physical equipment and customer demands, establish who assembles each proof of loss and who sends formal notices to the relevant insurers. 30 29 8

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which policy covers equipment failure, operational interruption and customer liability, and which power obligations need bonds? 24 15
  • Which Marsh entity and team are engaged, and which insurers accept the California facility? 38 25 5
  • What fees, affiliated-market remuneration and claim-preparation services are included? 38 30

Service Comparison

Beazley vs Marsh: documented services and availability

CriteriaBeazleyMarsh
Business role

Beazley is a specialty insurance group operating through insurance companies and underwriting businesses. Its US disclosures distinguish the insurance entities from Beazley USA Services, Inc., which reports doing business in California as Beazley Insurance Services under license 0G55497. This is a company disclosure, not an independently verified license record. 5,6,7

Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 38,37,22

Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 38,37,39,40,21,51

Coverage lines

MediaTech combines technology and professional errors and omissions, media liability and cyber coverage. Beazley lists breach response, business interruption, dependent business interruption, extortion, data recovery and eCrime protections, with limits up to $5 million; the issued policy determines the cover purchased. 1

The linked MediaTech sample form is dated February 2019. It excludes patent infringement and trade-secret misappropriation related to technology or other products, and contains contractual-liability and retroactive-date restrictions. The sample is not evidence of the wording that will be offered today. 3,5

Execuguard offers private-company directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary liability, with separate or shared limits across selected coverages. Beazley advertises both admitted and non-admitted options; state and account eligibility still need confirmation. 10

Beazley offers Commercial Crime for commercial companies and Financial Fidelity Bonds for financial institutions. Its crime page describes fraudulent-instruction coverage subject to out-of-band authentication, with possible removal of that condition for documented controls and an additional premium. 11

Virtual Care lists healthcare professional liability, technology liability, cyber, media, general liability and products/completed operations for digital-health businesses. Life Sciences offers product, professional and general liability through BioSecure, NutraGuard and WellTech forms for different life-sciences exposures. 13,14

North American Commercial Property targets mid-sized and large commercial properties on an excess and surplus lines basis. Product Recall – Manufacturing Risk and Response separately addresses consumer goods, component parts and consumables, including product-removal and related income-loss costs. 15,16

BeazleyOne Environmental combines general, professional and contractors’ pollution liability for environmental-service firms, and lists hired and non-owned auto. US Marine offers hull and marine liability on primary and excess bases; this does not establish general corporate umbrella availability. 17,18

Beazley offers representations and warranties coverage for acquisitions. Its US Specialty Programs business works through managing general agents, program administrators and specialized brokers on professional, general, product, manufacturers’ E&O, cyber and allied-medical liability programs. 12,19

The posted Digital Media Tech application says liability coverage is claims-made and reported: the claim must be made and reported within the applicable policy terms. It also warns that claims expenses reduce the liability limit and are subject to retentions. 2

Marsh’s Cyber Insurance practice markets brokerage of cyber policies and related analytics products. Marsh McLennan Agency’s cyber page lists solution areas such as cybercrime, extortion and ransomware, media liability, network interruption and privacy regulatory defense costs. The Technology Practice’s data-center service describes programs that can include property damage, equipment breakdown, business interruption, cyber, general liability and surety for power and interconnection obligations. Stratus is marketed as an operational property exchange for digital infrastructure with potential access to up to $10 billion of property capacity on a single placement; at launch it is focused on property, with inland marine, cyber and casualty described as possible later lines. These are marketed capabilities, not a standard startup package or guaranteed limits. 28,44,24,25,23

Marsh’s Directors and Officers page offers D&O program design for public, private and non-profit companies. Its Employment Practices page offers EPLI, including endorsements described for firms with more than 4,000 employees and for midsize firms with 250 to 4,000 employees. Its Professional Liability page offers E&O risk-transfer design, including for technology businesses. MMA’s executive and professional liability practice lists D&O, E&O, EPL, commercial crime/fidelity, cyber, fiduciary, media, intellectual property and kidnap-and-ransom among policies it places. Endorsement headcount bands and product labels do not establish that a particular Bay Area company qualifies or that wording is equivalent across insurers. 31,32,33,45,34

MMA’s business-insurance hub links casualty, property, surety, cyber, executive and professional liability, international placements, captives and small-business programs. Its property page covers commercial property and builders’ risk. Its casualty page includes workers’ compensation. MMA and Marsh sites also market employee health and benefits consulting and placement. MMA’s compensation-guide landing page exists for 2026 but the PDF body was not fully extracted here. 43,46,47,48,49,38

Access to insurers

The posted Digital Media Tech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc. Beazley’s broader disclosures also describe surplus-lines business through Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance, Inc. or Beazley-managed Lloyd’s syndicates. The actual MediaTech insurer and California placement basis must be identified in the quote. 2,7

Marsh and MMA describe access to multiple insurers rather than a single issuing carrier for all business. MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers. Stratus is a prior-submit exchange in which participating insurers evaluate each risk individually; the page does not name those insurers. Marsh’s compensation and transparency pages say Marsh or affiliates may receive insurer consulting compensation and may own equity interests in certain insurers or reinsurers, with a list on the transparency site. Victor, an affiliated MGU and wholesale broker, is described as accessing markets retail Marsh US cannot offer directly; that path is documented for some programs and is not assumed for every placement. Ask for the issuing insurer, surplus-lines status and proposed forms on the quote. 43,25,37,38,39

Fees and compensation

The reviewed MediaTech product page, application and US website terms do not disclose a buyer-specific premium, broker commission rate or fee schedule for a MediaTech placement. Obtain an itemized quote and the placing broker’s compensation disclosure. 1,2,6

Marsh’s US compensation guide says it may be paid by insurer retail commissions, client fees (often in a written Client Service Agreement, sometimes crediting commissions), wholesale commissions, insurer consulting compensation, supplemental commissions, compensation for facilities or other insurer arrangements, interest on premium accounts, and other benefits. Marsh says it does not accept contingent commissions on domestic placements for US clients in core broking operations, except for employee health and benefits or when acting as managing general agent or underwriting manager; Marsh McLennan Agency does accept contingent commissions. Standard public premium ranges or a startup fee schedule were not found. Request an account-specific disclosure of commissions, fees, contingent or supplemental amounts, premium finance charges and any affiliated-market compensation. 38,37,50
