Insurance After Raising Venture Funding

Put the right insurance in place after your funding round

When investors join your board, your Spot team builds the insurance program they expect and keeps it ready for diligence and enterprise customers.

  • D&O, EPLI, cyber and E&O quoted together
  • Proposals compared on who’s insured and what reduces the limit
  • Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

How it works

Tell us about the round and the board

Share your cap table summary, who sits on the board, your headcount plan and what you sell. Your Spot team turns it into the submissions insurers ask for.

We take it to market with brokers

We work with brokers to quote management liability, cyber and E&O together, so limits and retentions fit with each other.

When you need insurance

Your round just closed, a new investor is joining the board, and they’ve asked whether you carry D&O.

Coverage to consider

  • Directors and officers

Investors may challenge board decisions and disclosures, and D&O can pay covered defense costs and losses for leaders and, depending on the policy, the company.

  • Employment practices liability

A growing team means more applicants and employees who could allege discrimination, harassment or wrongful termination, and D&O alone shouldn’t be relied on for those claims.

    Get quotes
  • Management liability

A package can combine D&O and EPLI, but shared limits mean a claim in one part can reduce what’s left for another.

    Get quotes
  • Cyber liability

More customers and data mean more exposure to breach response costs, outages and claims after an incident.

    Get quotes
  • Technology errors and omissions (E&O)

If you sell software or technology services, it answers claims that your product or work caused a customer financial loss.

Documents to have ready

  • 01

    Financing documents

The term sheet or closing summary and your cap table, so insurers can see ownership and the board’s makeup.

  • 02

    Financial statements

Your most recent financials and the runway the round gives you.

  • 03

    Headcount and hiring plan

Employees by state now and planned over the next year, including contractors.

  • 04

    Customer contracts

Your main agreements and their insurance clauses, so E&O and cyber limits match what customers expect.

  • 05

    Disputes or claims

Any demand letter, investor complaint or employee dispute, even if nothing was filed.

Common questions

Do investors require D&O insurance?

Investors often ask about it, and your financing documents may require it. Your Spot team reads what they say and quotes to that.

Should D&O and EPLI be on one policy?

A management liability package can be simpler, but check whether the parts share a limit. We show you both structures so you can decide.

Should we buy before or after the round closes?

If you can, start before closing so coverage is in place when the new board takes its seats. Tell us your closing date and we’ll work back from it.

Can we keep the broker we already use?

Yes. Spot works alongside your broker and takes no commissions on premiums, or we can introduce you to a broker who places venture-backed companies.
