Crime insurance in Nebraska: check contractor roles and payment-order safeguards
Map who prepares or handles checks, who changes vendor bank details, who can release wires, and how much money or property those roles expose. Nebraska's UCC treats certain retained contractors as employees for check-endorsement allocation when entrusted with instrument responsibility, while its funds-transfer definition requires an agreed bank security procedure and excludes known contact details alone. Those rules concern bank and instrument rights; they do not promise crime-policy coverage. 1,2
What Is Crime?
Crime insurance can help reimburse specified business losses from theft and fraud, including employee theft and forgery. Compare those protections separately and ask whether a payment sent after an impersonation scam is covered. Read the national Crime guide.
What to Watch for in Nebraska
Disclose delegated check duties
Nebraska UCC §3-405 includes an independent contractor and the contractor's employee retained by the employer within “employee” for this section. It lists check-related responsibility such as signing, processing instruments, preparing checks, supplying payee information, or controlling disposition; mere access to stored or mailed instruments is excluded. Ask the broker whether each outsourced role meets the policy's own employee definition and whether covered property includes the funds involved. 1
Get the bank's complete agreed security procedure
Nebraska UCC §4A-201 defines a security procedure as one established by agreement between a customer and receiving bank. A signature match or requiring an order from a known email address, IP address, or phone number is not by itself a security procedure; the official code cites 2024 LB 94, §26. Review the bank agreement's callback, code, or other verification steps and ask how the policy treats a fraudulent instruction. 2
Act quickly after a diverted wire
The FBI describes spoofed or compromised email used to redirect vendor invoices or payment instructions and advises businesses to contact their financial institution immediately and report the event to IC3. Keep the original email, headers, invoice, call-back record, approvals, and bank response. Notify the insurer according to the policy's separate terms. 3
Who Regulates Insurance in Nebraska

Surplus-lines tax and stamping office
Reported tax rate: 3% of gross premium charged, less return premiums Nebraska’s 3% tax applies to gross premium charged less return premium when the risk is Nebraska’s home-state placement; fees paid to the carrier are taxable, while broker-retained or third-party fees are not. A Nebraska-licensed surplus-lines producer ordinarily must complete due diligence, while exempt-commercial-purchaser provisions permit limited exceptions; federal ECP status alone does not erase the disclosure and subsequent written-request conditions for the federal search waiver. Nebraska policies state that its Property and Liability Guaranty Association will not cover surplus-lines claims. 7,8,9,10
Providers With Documented State Licenses
These providers publish a national listing for Crime; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm the product is available in Nebraska. Check the regulator’s license lookup and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

VouchVouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLCInsurance producer, Surplus-lines broker · checked 2026-09-28Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability. 17
