Marsh vs Resilience

Distinguish Marsh’s data-center and cyber brokerage work from Resilience’s cyber-risk products when financing digital infrastructure.

Introduction

A business financing digital infrastructure may need property, interruption, technology liability and cyber protection coordinated with lender requirements. Marsh's technology practice describes data-center program work; Resilience markets cyber and technology E&O, including data centers in its technology appetite. This is a potential program adviser and specialist-product comparison, not two complete infrastructure packages. 4 36

Key Differences Between Marsh and Resilience

Keep Property Capacity Out of the Cyber Comparison

Marsh's Stratus exchange markets operational property capacity for digital infrastructure. Its launch description does not establish an equivalent cyber capacity offering. Resilience's advertised cyber limits belong to a different coverage discussion. A large property placement number cannot be compared with a cyber policy maximum as a measure of overall protection. 5 35

Marsh's data-center practice also describes equipment breakdown, business interruption and technology E&O. Ask the adviser to distinguish a physical interruption from a cyber-triggered outage in the proposed forms, including supplier dependencies. Resilience's security and cyber descriptions can inform that layer, but do not complete the physical property analysis. 4 35 40

Identify the Broking Segment and Engagement

Marsh's US guide distinguishes core broking, MMA and other channels. Those service paths should not be collapsed into one startup onboarding promise. Ask which team accepts the account and whether the proposed scope includes marketing a Resilience option; neither record establishes that account-specific access. 18 20 37

The Marsh record also preserves inconsistent Inc./LLC entity names in public disclosures. Obtain the contracting producer and current California authority in the engagement. Resilience's Ocrea and Homeland disclosure identifies US roles but leaves the product's California route to be confirmed. 17 19 34

Advocacy and Compensation Follow the Actual Arrangement

Marsh describes cyber claims advocacy, including preparing proof of loss with forensic accountants. Resilience describes incident coordination and a dedicated claims manager. If both participate, allocate the technical response, loss quantification and coverage-dispute work before a loss. The descriptions do not establish that Marsh pays claims or that either service guarantees recovery. 9 38

Marsh's compensation rules differ between core US broking and MMA, including contingent compensation. Resilience's reviewed pages do not disclose a standard fee scale. Request the account-specific broking agreement and separate insurance/security costs instead of applying a group-wide compensation label. 18 42

What to Confirm in Quotes

Ask for a lender-requirement coverage map, the actual property and cyber issuers, the engaged Marsh segment and a written scope for claims work. Price brokerage, specialty placement and technical services separately. Confirm any Resilience access and California placement basis before treating the two services as an available combined solution. 4 18 34

Service Comparison

Marsh vs Resilience: documented services and availability

CriteriaMarshResilience
Business role

Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 18,17,2

Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 18,17,19,20,1,31

Resilience combines cyber insurance and technology errors and omissions insurance with cybersecurity risk-management services. 33,35,36

Resilience identifies Ocrea Risk Services, LLC, doing business as Resilience Cyber Insurance Solutions, as its US insurance distributor and lists NPN 19169260. This company disclosure is not independent verification of a California license. 34

Customer focus

Marsh describes itself as a global insurance broker and risk advisor. Its homepage says it advises clients in 130 countries across industries that include technology. US broking is organized in segments: Risk Management (including large, complex programs), Corporate (midsize domestic firms), Marsh McLennan Agency (middle-market companies in the United States and Canada), and Affinity programs. The Technology Practice is the industry team that markets data-center, fintech and digital-infrastructure work. Public pages do not publish a minimum premium, employee count or California-startup eligibility rule. 1,3,18,20

Resilience lists US technology E&O appetite of $25 million–$10 billion in revenue, including software, AI, hardware, technology services, data centers and telecommunications. Smaller startups should ask whether an exception is available. 36

Access to insurers

Marsh and MMA describe access to multiple insurers rather than a single issuing carrier for all business. MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers. Stratus is a prior-submit exchange in which participating insurers evaluate each risk individually; the page does not name those insurers. Marsh’s compensation and transparency pages say Marsh or affiliates may receive insurer consulting compensation and may own equity interests in certain insurers or reinsurers, with a list on the transparency site. Victor, an affiliated MGU and wholesale broker, is described as accessing markets retail Marsh US cannot offer directly; that path is documented for some programs and is not assumed for every placement. Ask for the issuing insurer, surplus-lines status and proposed forms on the quote. 23,5,17,18,19

Resilience’s US disclosure names Homeland Insurance Company of New York or Homeland Insurance Company of Delaware as underwriting insurers. It does not specify which would issue a particular California quote. 34

Fees and compensation

Marsh’s US compensation guide says it may be paid by insurer retail commissions, client fees (often in a written Client Service Agreement, sometimes crediting commissions), wholesale commissions, insurer consulting compensation, supplemental commissions, compensation for facilities or other insurer arrangements, interest on premium accounts, and other benefits. Marsh says it does not accept contingent commissions on domestic placements for US clients in core broking operations, except for employee health and benefits or when acting as managing general agent or underwriting manager; Marsh McLennan Agency does accept contingent commissions. Standard public premium ranges or a startup fee schedule were not found. Request an account-specific disclosure of commissions, fees, contingent or supplemental amounts, premium finance charges and any affiliated-market compensation. 18,17,30

The reviewed broker, contact, legal and product pages do not disclose a standard customer fee schedule or insurance commission rates. Request an itemized premium, taxes, placement fees and any separate security-service charges. 37,39,34,42,35,36

Claims assistance

Marsh’s Claims Management service describes acting as an advisor among the business, insurer and third-party administrator: preparing, presenting and negotiating claims. Its cyber claims-advocacy page says specialists review claims, support litigation management, develop proof of loss with forensic accountants and advocate with insurers. MMA similarly describes claims advocacy as a carrier liaison on cyber matters and as part of property and casualty service. These are descriptions of assistance. They do not establish that Marsh pays claims, that a claim will be covered, or that recovery amounts cited in marketing were independently checked. 10,9,24,27

Resilience describes a 24/7 in-house claims team, a dedicated claims manager through settlement, and outside specialists in privacy law, forensics, recovery and crisis communications. These are company-reported service arrangements, not independently measured claims quality. 38
