Harper vs
Kinro
How Harper and Kinro differ when an existing agent needs another market and the business wants clear ownership of service and renewals.
Introduction
Harper helps businesses place commercial insurance, with a focus on complex operations. Kinro helps small businesses shop coverage and also provides market access to independent agents. Their agent programs make a concrete distinction: Harper’s referral arrangement moves the ongoing account to Harper, while Kinro’s agency-partner model says the introducing agent retains the relationship, subject to agreement. 13 2 15 19 26

Key Differences Between Harper and Kinro
Agent Handoff Versus Added Market Access
a manufacturer opens a second production site in another state, and its existing agent cannot place that location with its current markets. A Harper referral assigns quoting, placement, service and renewals to Harper; the referring agent receives a share of commission without servicing duties. Kinro’s agency partnership instead describes the agent remaining the primary advisor, with Kinro supplying access and technology. Ask the agent which relationship it is proposing before assuming the familiar contact will continue handling changes. 15 26
Harper separately advertises wholesale and white-label arrangements, while Kinro’s commercial-placement service negotiates responsibilities for a particular risk. That means the proposal needs to name the chosen program and its service division. A referral, an agency partnership and a specific wholesale placement should not be treated as interchangeable just because another firm helped find the insurer. 14 27
For the manufacturer, write down who advises on the second site’s property, employee duties and state requirements, submits applications, obtains binding confirmation and handles the next certificate request. Include who owns the renewal calendar and who receives notice of another operational change. This is especially useful when the first introducing agent continues to handle unrelated personal or business policies. The programs’ account-ownership language describes agency arrangements, not proof that the buyer is unable to change advisors later. 15 27
The New Operation as an Underwriting Brief
Harper markets difficult-to-place businesses and specialty-market access. Kinro’s commercial-placement page asks for operations, states, requested coverage, loss information and prior placement constraints. Use that shared factual brief to compare their proposed market searches, rather than assuming either network description guarantees acceptance. The second site’s address, production work and payroll should appear in the submission the insurer actually reviews. 13 14 27
Both market ordinary business coverages such as liability and workers’ compensation, while their catalogues also have different specialist detail. Harper explicitly lists bonds and equipment coverage; Kinro lists commercial property, tools, trucking and management-related options. Request a coverage-by-operation schedule, including any contract or vehicle requirements, rather than interpreting a familiar product name as a complete manufacturing program. 7 12 21
Harper’s underwriter count and Kinro’s displayed carrier network do not establish a comparable number of insurers or offers. Ask for the issuing insurer and whether access is direct, through an intermediary or under an identified delegated program. Harper’s selective binding-authority claim and Kinro’s approval conditions both make that route relevant; neither establishes that the platform itself bears the insured risk. 13 14 28
Review, Communication and Binding
Kinro’s existing-policy review can begin with a declarations page or renewal packet. That may be useful for the manufacturer’s existing arrangement, but the new site, its equipment and its employee duties should accompany it. Harper’s privacy policy describes AI-assisted extraction and follow-up with human and carrier review of final decisions. These are information-gathering tools; the buyer should still review the submitted business description for accuracy. 22 3
Harper’s messaging terms say text cannot bind or change coverage. Kinro’s placement terms say a submission does not guarantee a quote or binding authority. If the second site has an opening date, request the insurer’s acceptance and effective date in writing and identify remaining conditions. Quick replies from either service are not the same milestone as insurance taking effect. 2 27
Fees and Service under the Chosen Arrangement
Harper’s referral split describes how agencies divide commission. Kinro’s agency economics are set by agreement, while its methodology acknowledges placement compensation. Neither establishes the manufacturer’s retail charges. Request premium, taxes, buyer-paid fees and financing costs separately, and identify how every intermediary is paid. A referring agent’s share is not a discount from the policy premium. 15 26 36
Harper describes annual reviews and claims advocacy; Kinro describes renewal shopping and service messages, but its reviewed sources do not establish dedicated claim-reporting instructions. Set the actual renewal search, document-delivery and claims-notice responsibilities in the agreement. Obtain the insurer’s reporting route regardless of which agency owns the commercial relationship; an administrative handoff should not leave notice responsibilities implicit. 17 2 19 37 27
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Which program is this? Identify a Harper referral or wholesale placement, or a Kinro agency partnership or risk-specific placement, with the actual agreement. 15 14 27
- Who retains the service role? Name the advisor for endorsements, certificates and renewals and confirm what the introducing agent will continue doing. 15 26
- What did the insurer accept? Request the operations schedule, market responses and written effective-date confirmation for the expansion. 2 27
- What is paid and to whom? Separate agency compensation from customer charges and attach the claim-reporting and renewal contacts. 15 36 27
Service Comparison
Harper vs Kinro: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Harper | Kinro |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Harper is a commercial insurance brokerage: it helps businesses find insurance from other companies and arrange the purchase. You can request a quote online or speak with a specialist, who gathers information, approaches insurers and explains the options. 2,9 Harper’s text-messaging terms identify the brokerage as Harper Global Enterprises Inc., doing business as Harper Global Insurance Agency. Its privacy policy instead names Harper Group Corp. The reviewed disclosures do not explain the corporate relationship between those names. 2,3 Harper separately markets wholesale access for other brokers, including specialty and non-admitted insurers. That page claims binding authority on selected programs but does not identify the delegating insurers, products, states or authority limits. It is not evidence that Harper itself bears the insured risk. 14 | Kinro’s website identifies Kinro Insurance Services LLC and displays National Producer Number (NPN) 22233799. It describes the business as a commercial insurance brokerage: the intermediary helping arrange coverage. The insurer issuing your policy is a separate role. 23,28 Kinro’s public pages use several names: the footer names Kinro Insurance Services LLC, text-message disclosures name Kinro, Inc., and the Terms of Service name Kinro AI. Those terms describe selling AI sales-agent technology to financial-services companies under commercial orders. They do not clearly explain how those names or contracts relate to an insurance buyer’s agency agreement. 24,23 Kinro also offers market access and technology to independent agencies and agents. Its partner page says they retain the customer relationship, subject to their written agreement. Its separate commercial-placement service asks the parties to allocate advice, binding, billing, endorsements, certificates, renewals, and communication before placing business. 26,27 |
| Application process | The public quote form asks for your contact and business details, state, estimated annual revenue, business activity and requested coverage. It includes an existing-customer checkbox and a text-message consent choice. The visible form starts an inquiry; it does not display a final premium or issued policy. 1 The founders describe Harper Hub as internal software that helps complete forms, identify carriers and underwriters, and manage client communications. Their Y Combinator launch describes full autonomy as a direction for the business. 6 Harper’s privacy policy says AI extracts document information, drafts messages for review, organizes follow-ups and assists staff. It says licensed professionals and carriers review final decisions, including eligibility and binding. AI marketing therefore does not establish that a machine can approve your coverage on its own. 3 The privacy policy describes collecting applications, loss records and business documents. It also says customer communications and policy information train Harper’s own models, while its enterprise AI vendors state they do not train their foundation models on customer data. These are different uses of your information. 3 Harper’s messaging terms say a text cannot bind, change, renew or cancel insurance. Coverage takes effect only with written confirmation from Harper and the applicable carrier; quotes sent by text remain subject to underwriting and final documentation. 2 Harper’s February 2026 announcement advertises coverage within 24–48 hours. That is a company timing claim, not a deadline established for your application. Ask what information and approvals are still outstanding before arranging work around a proposed start date. 13 | Kinro’s public “Start a new quote” page opens without a login and begins with a business-activity selector, labeled step 1 of 4. Later application steps, quote results, payment, and binding were not inspected. 20 Kinro says AI helps collect information and present available quote options, with licensed-agent support. Its homepage describes agent follow-up after submission and advertises a roughly two-minute reply. That is a response-time claim, not a verified deadline for receiving or binding insurance. 19 Kinro offers a free review starting with an upload of a declarations page, renewal packet, or policy. It accepts up to three PDF, PNG, or JPG files, each up to 25 MB. Its promise to seek a better price with equivalent or higher coverage is a company claim; no replacement quote or coverage comparison was tested. 22 |
| Access to insurers | Harper’s homepage displays insurers including Progressive, Kinsale, USLI, Atlantic Casualty, James River, GEICO, AIG and Hiscox. Its February 2026 announcement reports relationships with more than 165 underwriters and plans for more direct appointments. An underwriter count is not a count of distinct insurers that will quote your account. 1,13 An older Harper article says it uses only AAA-rated carriers, without specifying the rating agency, legal insurers or dated rating records. That does not establish a financial-strength rating for the insurer on your quote. Request that insurer’s exact name and current rating evidence. 17 | Kinro says it works with more than 50 companies and displays brands including Progressive, GEICO, AmTrust, Pie, Coterie, and NEXT. Its carrier-partner page makes access and binding authority conditional on approvals. The logos do not identify the legal insurer that would issue a particular buyer’s policy. 19,28 |
| Servicing and renewals | For workers’ compensation, Harper says it helps classify payroll by the work employees perform and prepares information for premium audits. Its cost FAQ identifies payroll, job categories and claims history as pricing factors. An audit can reconcile the information used to price the policy; Harper’s service description is not a promise that your premium cannot change. 10,18 Under that referral program, Harper says it owns the account and handles quoting, placement, servicing, renewals and claims; the referring agent has no servicing duties. Its separate wholesale page offers white-label options. If another agent introduces you, clarify which arrangement applies and who will be your ongoing contact. 15,14 Harper’s public portal entry page advertises access to certificates, policies, payments and application status. Sign-in uses the email address associated with a Harper invitation; the page directs customers without an invitation to its service team. Features behind sign-in were not tested. 16 Harper describes ongoing policy management and annual coverage reviews. Its messaging terms list reminders about renewals, billing and premium finance, along with communications about changes and certificates. These service descriptions do not specify a guaranteed renewal price or a commitment to re-shop every policy. 17,2 | Kinro says it shops the market at renewal. Its text-update service describes links to policy documents and certificates, renewal reminders, and replies to coverage questions. These are published service descriptions, not measured turnaround times. 19,23 Kinro’s text sign-up separates service-message consent from optional marketing consent and offers STOP to unsubscribe. Its privacy policy separately discloses visitor-identification partners that may connect browsing activity with email addresses or online profiles for marketing. The mobile opt-in protections should not be read as a blanket promise that website visits cannot lead to marketing. 23,25 |
| Fees and compensation | Harper Partners advertises a payment of 50% of Harper’s commission to an appropriately licensed referring agent, paid 60 days after the account settles. It says the underlying commission varies by coverage line, premium and carrier. The percentage is a share of commission, not a discount on the buyer’s premium. 15 The reviewed Harper pages do not disclose a buyer-facing schedule of brokerage fees or account-specific commission rates. Its statement that partner agents can join for free does not establish that buying insurance through Harper carries no fees. Request an itemized total, including premium, taxes, fees and any financing charges. 15,17,9,2 | Kinro discloses that it may receive compensation when it places a policy. Its agency-partner page also describes commissions, with the basis, deductions, chargebacks, and payment timing set by agreement. The reviewed disclosures do not state what Kinro or another producer would earn on your policy, or whether your purchase would include a separate buyer-paid fee. 36,26 For consultants, Kinro publishes monthly benchmarks of $25–$35 for general liability, $50–$65 for professional liability, and $90–$105 for cyber. It labels these market benchmarks, not quotes or guaranteed prices. They do not specify a matched insurer, limit, deductible, and policy form for your business. 35 |
