Key Differences Between Founder Shield and Newfront
The Insurance Brief and the Research Plan
If a venture-backed life-science company plans trials in additional countries, its next insurance task involves more than raising an existing limit. Newfront describes a portal where clients can review country requirements, upload documentation and request clinical-trial quotes. Founder Shield’s public materials establish life-science advisory focus and a process for reporting new products or territories. Ask each team to turn the actual trial plan into a schedule of required placements and documents. 46 1 19
The documented Newfront portal gives a specific workflow to evaluate: who updates the country information, reviews the submission and confirms the final terms? Founder Shield’s sources do not describe that same interface, which does not establish an inability to arrange trial coverage. Request its proposed process and compare the accountable team, required inputs and delivery milestones. Neither a portal request nor a broker’s territorial reach establishes that a particular trial is insured. 46 19 2
Both also address the corporate side of growth. Founder Shield markets directors and officers (D&O) and specialized intellectual-property coverage; Newfront’s executive-risk and life-science practices address management and IP risks. A trial policy should not be assumed to satisfy an investor’s D&O requirement, and an IP product label should not be assumed to cover every dispute about the company’s work. Request separate scopes and any overlaps in defense costs or limits. 11 13 39 46
Company Certificates and Vendor Certificates
Founder Shield’s certificate FAQ asks for the insurance clause in a customer contract so the team can assess required endorsements. Newfront’s Partner Management tool tracks documents received from vendors, including expirations and follow-up. These tasks run in opposite directions: proving the company’s insurance to a partner and monitoring the partner’s insurance for the company’s records. 18 59
For the trial company, give the brokers both sets of requirements. Ask who handles the company’s certificate requests and who collects documents from outside service providers. Newfront separately describes contract review and comparison against existing policies, with its team notified of the findings. Evaluate that workflow through a sample contract review, without treating automated extraction as a guarantee of compliance. Founder Shield’s contract-related certificate process supplies a concrete human review step to compare. 60 18
An additional-insured requirement may need an endorsement that changes the policy. Newfront’s terms make Navigator change requests preliminary until the carrier provides written approval. Founder Shield likewise describes evaluating endorsement needs rather than granting every requested clause. Keep confirmation of the amendment in the project checklist, alongside delivery of the certificate. 31 18
Insurance and Benefits Engagements
Founder Shield operates within Baldwin, while WTW announced completion of its Newfront acquisition. Both remain brokerage relationships for this comparison; the owning group does not become the issuing insurer on every policy. For a new engagement, identify the producer, insurer and service agreement rather than assuming group ownership answers those questions. 3 2 30 31
As hiring grows, benefits can join the project: both market benefits services. Newfront’s Total Rewards terms govern a separate benefits engagement and should not be generalized to its commercial-insurance work. Request the actual order forms and included services from each team, particularly if one contact coordinates several practices. 11 52 54
Total Rewards agreements renew annually unless written nonrenewal notice is given at least 60 days in advance. Termination for convenience is allowed during renewal terms with 60 days’ written notice; the client must retain Newfront as broker of record through the current agreement term. Separately, a participating Block Strategy client ending the agreement for convenience during an active affected policy can owe an early-exit fee based on remaining premium savings. 54
For the life-science company, this means the benefits decision calendar may need to start before the insurance renewal date: missing the notice window can extend the service agreement, and a participating Block Strategy client may face an exit charge tied to remaining premium savings. The terms also require a client terminating for convenience to retain Newfront as broker of record through the current agreement term, whether or not Block Strategy applies. Ask for the service handoff date, broker-change date and any exit calculation before bundling benefits into the relationship. 54
Newfront says Partner Management is included in client service agreements at no additional cost; that is a tool-inclusion statement, not a zero-fee brokerage promise. Founder Shield discloses commissions, fees and possible financing arrangements. Compare the entire engagement and policy costs, showing which specialist reviews, tools and separately billed services are included. 59 36 2 22
Claims Escalation Before a Loss
Both describe claims advocacy. Newfront details work on reporting protocols, coverage reservations, counsel and reimbursement disputes. Founder Shield describes reporting guidance, dispute help and claim tracking. For a program spanning countries and coverages, ask which team coordinates the notices and which insurer or administrator receives each one. These are documented assistance capabilities, not evidence of superior settlements. 62 21
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Trial placements: Request country-by-country responsibilities, required documents, insurer names and written coverage-confirmation milestones. 46 19
- Corporate protection: Separate D&O, IP and trial-related requirements, identifying the offered forms and relevant exclusions. 39 11
- Two certificate workflows: Specify who issues the company’s proof, tracks vendor documents and obtains necessary endorsements. 59 18
- Agreements and escalation: Request separate benefits terms, included tool and advisory costs, and a cross-policy claims protocol. 54 62 2 21
Service Comparison
Founder Shield vs Newfront: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Founder Shield | Newfront |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Founder Shield focuses on venture-backed and high-growth businesses, from early funding rounds through an initial public offering. Its practices include technology, life sciences, financial services, retail and transportation. 1,6 | Newfront is an insurance brokerage for businesses, from early-stage companies to established enterprises. It helps buyers arrange business insurance, manage employee benefits, and coordinate risk management with a specialist team and online tools. Its practices include technology, life sciences, construction, financial services, and public-sector organizations. 29,36,52 |
| Application process | The Get a Quote link opens a portal with Create Account and Sign In options. Registration offers Google, Microsoft, or an email address and password. 7,8 Founder Shield advertises an application that takes under 15 minutes. That is an application-time claim, not a guaranteed time to receive insurer terms or put coverage in force. 6 To buy coverage, Founder Shield’s FAQ says you approve a proposal, select a payment method and choose the desired start date. Its team then follows up on documents needing electronic signatures and handles the insurer’s paperwork. 9 | The public buying path starts with a consultation request. The form asks for your role, company, contact details, industry, employee count, and the service you need. It does not display a premium or bind coverage. 37 Newfront describes assembling a team for your industry, reviewing your business and risk exposures, and presenting that information to underwriters. Its technology practice describes onboarding and renewal reviews, with additional market shopping when appropriate. The reviewed public pages do not promise a universal quote or binding turnaround. 36,57,37 Some online services may require you to appoint Newfront as broker of record—the broker designated to service your insurance. Ask which tools and services are included before signing that appointment. 31 Life-science clients can use Newfront’s Clinical Trial Portal to check country requirements, upload documents, and request quotes. The public description does not establish automatic approval or a guaranteed time to receive coverage. 46 |
| Servicing and renewals | Founder Shield’s certificate FAQ directs customers to email the team. For a request tied to a contract, it asks for the other party’s legal name and address, required wording, and the insurance requirements from the contract so the team can assess endorsement needs. 18 Founder Shield asks clients to report changes such as a new product, a different business model, a new office or entry into another territory. Its team says it will evaluate those changes and adjust coverage. 19 Founder Shield describes a platform for applications and renewals, with ongoing advisor support. Its renewal guide suggests starting 60–90 days before expiration and preparing updated business information and claims history. That is planning guidance, not a promised renewal-service deadline. 1,20 Founder Shield’s terms direct cancellation requests to client support and warn that some insurers retain a minimum earned premium—a portion you cannot recover by cancelling early. Check the proposal’s cancellation terms. 2 | Newfront says Navigator brings together policy documents, certificates, claims information, payment tools, and communication with the service team. Its Executive Risk page describes renewal submissions pre-filled with historical data and document sharing with access controls. 58,39 A policy or coverage change requested through Navigator remains preliminary until the applicable carrier approves it and provides written confirmation. A submitted request is not evidence that the new coverage is in force. 31 Newfront says its Partner Management tool is included in client service agreements at no additional cost. It tracks vendor certificates, expiration dates, compliance issues, and follow-up activity inside Navigator. This is a statement about that tool, not a promise of free brokerage services. 59 Newfront’s Contract Review tool extracts insurance requirements, compares them with current policies, provides source citations, and notifies the Newfront team. Its Coverage Gap Analysis tool supports the team’s policy reviews. These are company-described functions; the reviewed materials do not independently establish accuracy or prove that all gaps will be detected. 60,61 Newfront’s March 2026 privacy notice describes integration with WTW as ongoing and anticipates substantial integration by year-end, subject to legal and contractual limits. That is a stated plan, not confirmation that systems, data practices, or service agreements have already been unified. 32 |
| Fees and compensation | Founder Shield’s pricing FAQ says quotes generally cover one year, unless stated otherwise, and include the fees and charges for that policy period. It describes full payment, carrier installments and financing through premium-finance companies, depending on the policy and payment arrangement. 22 Founder Shield discloses compensation through commissions, fees or interest and invites questions about the amount and nature of that compensation. Its terms say customer charges will be disclosed in advance. 2 The Baldwin Group’s January 2026 disclosure also describes client fees, commissions tied to volume or profitability, compensation for affiliated placement services, and referral fees from providers such as premium-finance companies. These are possible group arrangements, not a finding that each applies to your Founder Shield policy. 23 | A standard business-insurance fee schedule, commission percentage, or premium range was not found in the reviewed business, consultation, and general-terms pages. Request an account-specific disclosure of brokerage fees, insurer commissions, other remuneration, and any separately billed services. 36,37,31 For Total Rewards, the order form sets compensation. The published terms allow insurer-paid commissions or client fees and disclose additional carrier compensation tied to the wider book of business. They also address non-cash compensation, retained unused carrier funds, and separate pass-through expenses. Newfront says supplemental commissions will not affect its recommendations. 54 Total Rewards agreements renew annually unless written nonrenewal notice is given at least 60 days in advance. 54 |
| Claims assistance | Founder Shield describes claims advocacy that includes reporting guidance, help with disputes and policy review when defense counsel is needed. Its claims page says you can report through the portal at any time or directly to the insurer using the notice details in the policy. 21 Founder Shield says its app offers claim updates, progress tracking and requests for information from the insurer. The insurer’s coverage decision remains separate from the broker’s assistance. 21,2 | Newfront describes helping establish reporting protocols before a loss, reviewing how a policy may respond, and acting as the buyer’s liaison with the carrier. Its advocates address coverage-reservation and denial letters, counsel selection, vendor rates, reimbursement, and allocation disputes. This documents claims assistance, not a promise that a claim will be paid. 62 |
