Coterie Insurance vs Risklytics

Compare agent-placed small-business cover with frontier-tech brokerage when a startup moves from an office into customer-site deployments.

Introduction

A startup insuring its first office may later send equipment and staff to customer sites. Coterie's small-business program and Risklytics' frontier-tech brokerage provide different starting points for that change. Coterie distributes through agents; Risklytics asks the business to describe what it builds and where it operates. They are not two interchangeable consumer quote marketplaces. 6 24

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Coterie Insurance Shines

  • Agents can use prefilled business details to customize quotes and bind eligible small-business policies in one dashboard. 5,6,2
  • Policyholders can access documents, generate certificates, request changes and start claims online, with their agent handling coverage questions. 10,8

Where Risklytics Shines

  • Risklytics says it prepares the application from your business description and website for your review. 24
  • Risklytics says it reviews technology E&O wording for AI exclusions before binding. 31

Key Differences Between Coterie Insurance and Risklytics

Keep the Agent Separate from the Program

Coterie is a managing general agency whose carrier partners issue policies. Its dashboard is primarily an agent tool: an agent confirms prefilled business information and selects coverage. Risklytics describes acting as the placing brokerage, with submissions directly to insurers or through wholesalers. A founder comparing these routes should identify who gives advice across the whole account, rather than equating a Coterie program quote with the agent's entire market access. 1 5 8 26

Office Cover and Technology Liability Need Different Questions

Coterie's core catalogue is BOP, general liability and miscellaneous professional liability for listed professions. Its optional endorsements should not be counted as standalone products, and its claims page expressly says it does not write workers' compensation or automobile policies. Risklytics lists technology E&O, equipment and workers' compensation among its placement categories. That may create a complementary purchase through different markets, but it does not establish that a particular robotics risk is eligible with either route. 2 14 11 27

Ask What Counts as a Location

Coterie's policyholder FAQ says each business location needs its own policy. Before interpreting that as a rule for every temporary installation, ask how the proposed form treats customer sites. Risklytics emphasizes describing operating locations in submissions, but its California placement authority remains unconfirmed in the reviewed public documentation. These are separate hurdles: accurately describing the deployment and establishing a route authorized to insure it. 10 27 25

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Have the agent explain whether the proposed professional liability class covers your technology work, rather than assuming MPL and technology E&O are equivalent. 14 31
  • List permanent premises, test sites and customer deployments; request written treatment of each location and equipment movement. 10 27
  • Identify who places employee and vehicle policies outside the Coterie program, and confirm the responsible California producer for any Risklytics proposal. 11 25

Service Comparison

Coterie Insurance vs Risklytics Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoterie InsuranceRisklytics
Business role

Coterie Insurance is a managing general agency and digital small-business insurance platform built primarily for licensed agents, brokers and distribution partners. It is not a direct-to-consumer insurance marketplace; a business owner is directed to work with an agent. 1,6,19

Coterie Applications, Inc. provides the platform under the website terms. Florida's current corporate record lists it as the member of Coterie Insurance Agency, LLC, the agency named in Coterie's footer; Massachusetts separately lists the agency with an active property-and-casualty producer license through December 28, 2026. 8,1,22,23

Coterie's website lists multiple investors, and Allianz X records Coterie as a current direct investment after leading a 2025 Series C round. The reviewed sources do not establish an acquisition, a controlling parent or Coterie's complete current ownership table. 1,19,20,22

Risklytics describes itself as a commercial insurance brokerage. Its current legal disclosures identify Risklytics, Inc., doing business as Risklytics Insurance Services, as the producer arranging coverage rather than the insurer. 25,26

Application process

A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2

Coterie advertises bindable quotes in under two minutes for eligible standard risks. Its terms qualify that claim: a quote or estimate is not an insurance contract, and coverage remains subject to underwriting approval, eligibility verification and formal policy issuance. 6,8

Risklytics says it drafts an application using your description and public business information, including your website, for you to check and sign. It advertises Slack and email placement updates. The application-preparation process and its speed were not tested. 24

Risklytics says it reviews the application with you, approaches suitable insurers and reads quote wording before making a recommendation. Its FAQ says the insurer binds after you accept a quote; timing varies with the coverage and operation. 29

Availability

Coterie says BOP and general liability are admitted products across all 50 states. That is not account-level availability: its terms make every product subject to jurisdiction, business class, underwriting and formal issuance, and temporary catastrophe moratoriums can stop new BOP binding in specified areas. 7,8,18

Coterie's broad broker page says BOP, general liability and professional liability are admitted in all 50 states, but its December 2025 MPL guide says MPL is unavailable in DC, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, North Dakota and Virginia. A newer quick-start page narrows the statement to BOP and general liability in all 50 states and MPL in most states. Use the product guide and a current quote for MPL eligibility. 5,7,14

As of September 11, 2026, Coterie says eligible BOP risks 3 to 26 miles from the coast can be considered in Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, generally with up to $250,000 of business personal property and no building coverage in the coastal zone. Risks closer than 3 miles remain ineligible under this expansion, and Florida building coverage is unavailable statewide. 17,18

Risklytics publishes agency NPN 22311838 and Massachusetts resident license 3004393145. Its state table, dated September 10, 2026, also lists Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Washington. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified licenses or product eligibility. 25

California is absent from the reviewed agency-license table. A California-authorized producer and product route remain unconfirmed in the reviewed disclosures; this does not establish that Risklytics cannot arrange California coverage. Confirm the responsible producer, authority and insurer for your operation before relying on a quote. 25,26,34

Servicing and renewals

Policyholders can use My Policy Center, request policy changes, generate certificates and start a claim online. Coterie tells policyholders to use their agent or broker first for coverage questions and provides public sample BOP, general liability and professional liability forms for orientation. 10,8

Coterie's policyholder FAQ says each business location must have its own policy rather than listing several operating addresses on one Coterie policy. 10

Unless a policy says otherwise, Coterie's terms describe a 12-month policy that may renew automatically. Renewal charges may use the payment method on file, and the policyholder can contact Coterie or use account tools to change renewal preferences. 8

Risklytics says a broker remains on the account after placement and certificates can be issued against the binder. Its terms describe portal access to submissions, returned options and coverage records. The reviewed FAQ and contact page do not specify a renewal remarketing commitment or certificate turnaround guarantee. 29,26,30

Risklytics provides a contact form and email support, advertising an email response within a day. That is its stated response target, not a measured service result or emergency claims commitment. 30
