Coalition vs WithCoverage

Compare WithCoverage’s program audit and advisory fee with Coalition’s cyber placement and security services.

Introduction

When no one internally owns the insurance program, a renewal review can reveal an organizational problem as well as a coverage question. WithCoverage positions its team as an alternative to an in-house risk function and offers an initial audit without changing brokers. Coalition provides cyber and Tech E&O products with security tools. Compare the advisory engagement separately from any proposed policy replacement. 20 22 1 8

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Coalition Shines

  • Combines Tech E&O and cyber coverage for technology businesses. 1
  • Control provides policyholders with monitoring, alerts and remediation guidance. 8

Where WithCoverage Shines

  • An initial policy audit can start while you retain your existing broker, comparing coverage, limits and premiums with market benchmarks. 22
  • WithCoverage describes a named risk manager handling renewals, certificates and account questions, backed by a broader specialist team. 25,19

Key Differences Between Coalition and WithCoverage

An Audit Does Not Require an Immediate Policy Move

The portfolio page describes appointing WithCoverage on existing policies by signing a broker-of-record letter. This changes your broker, not the policy itself. The page says the transfer has no additional charge. 28

That distinction can matter when keeping an existing cyber contract while changing who services it. Coalition’s buying route uses appointed brokers, but these sources do not establish whether WithCoverage can service or place a specific Coalition policy. Ask separately about broker access, insurer acceptance of the appointment and any later replacement recommendation. 13

A Fee Model Is Not the Same as the Total Cost of Risk

WithCoverage says it typically agrees a flat fee before work begins, so compensation does not rise with the premium. Its consumer FAQ also allows commission-based arrangements. The public pages do not give a standard fee amount. 23

WithCoverage’s advisor materials describe larger deductibles and contract changes as possible strategies. Coalition discloses producer commissions and possible incentives. A useful comparison should show advisory cost, insurance premium and the loss amount your company retains. A lower premium resulting from more retained risk is a different result from obtaining the same coverage for less. 29 4

Risk Management Includes Different Kinds of Work

WithCoverage describes a named risk manager, renewals, certificates and claims support, while Coalition’s Control tools address technical security findings. WithCoverage’s portfolio page expressly says it is not a law firm and does not provide legal services, despite describing attorney involvement in its team. Allocate contract interpretation, insurance advice and technical remediation explicitly. 25 28 8

What to Confirm in Quotes

Ask whether the proposal changes only the broker appointment or replaces coverage; identify the service fee, commission treatment and retained losses. Request the applicable privacy notice before sharing a full program file, because the reviewed WithCoverage privacy link displayed terms text. For any Coalition placement, confirm the broker’s access and the proposed insurer rather than assuming the advisory relationship establishes them. 33 21 13 3

Service Comparison

Coalition vs WithCoverage: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoalitionWithCoverage
Application process

Coalition directs buyers to an appointed insurance broker and offers help finding access if their broker does not offer Coalition. It describes underwriting that considers industry, finances, operations and security posture. 13

Coalition’s broker instructions describe adding Tech E&O during the cyber quote process, supplying a product or service description and answering contract-related questions. Some quotes require review before a price is released. 12

WithCoverage offers an initial policy audit without requiring you to leave your broker. It says the review compares existing coverage, limits and premiums with market benchmarks. Its technology FAQ puts the assessment at usually one business day after receiving policy documents, with longer timing for multiple entities or locations. 22

The public review form starts with contact details and then asks about the company, industry and annual insurance spending. It requests a conversation about your program; it does not display an insurance price. 22

The portfolio page describes appointing WithCoverage on existing policies by signing a broker-of-record letter. This changes your broker, not the policy itself. The page says the transfer has no additional charge. 28

For its portfolio offering, WithCoverage describes a digital application transferred into insurers’ applications and an advisor-prepared comparison of options. 28

At the time of research, the page linked as Privacy Policy displayed the terms-of-service text rather than a separate detailed privacy notice. Before sharing policy or claims files, request the applicable privacy notice and document-retention terms. 33

Fees and compensation

Coalition says independent producers typically receive commissions based on premium for new and renewed policies. Contingent commissions, placement incentives and compensation for certain cybersecurity sales may also apply. 4

Coalition says it retains part of earned premiums to fund operations and broker commissions and receives additional carrier payments based on the portfolio’s annual loss ratio. 16

The reviewed compensation disclosures do not state the commission percentage, broker fee or total premium for a particular startup quote. Obtain an itemized cost and compensation explanation from the placing broker. 4,16

WithCoverage says it typically agrees a flat fee before work begins, so compensation does not rise with the premium. Its consumer FAQ also allows commission-based arrangements. The public pages do not give a standard fee amount. 23

The terms allow premiums, commissions, installment, service, cancellation and flat fees disclosed with the service. A flat advisory fee therefore should not be read as an all-inclusive insurance price. 21

The solution page advertises average savings of 20–40% for clients spending over $1 million annually on insurance and risk-management services. It does not provide the sample size, measurement period or calculation needed to establish a comparable result for your business. 26

Industry pages show the same 20–40% figure as annual policy savings without repeating the solution page’s spending threshold. The broader presentation does not establish savings for smaller accounts. 26,22,23

Servicing and renewals

Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 8

Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 15

WithCoverage describes a named risk manager backed by attorneys and claims specialists, handling renewals, certificates of insurance and account questions. Its platform brings policies, claims, certificates, exposures and renewal communications together. 25,19

The portfolio page says WithCoverage is not a law firm and does not provide legal services. Confirm what its attorneys’ involvement includes. 28

The portfolio page promises no fee to end its broker-of-record appointment and data return on request. Confirm the service agreement and separate policy cancellation charges. 28,21

Its advisor recruitment materials describe contract changes and larger deductibles as possible strategies. Ask which risks the proposal leaves with your business. 29

Claims assistance

Coalition describes in-house cyber claims triage and assistance attempting to recover stolen funds. Its Tech E&O page says the same claims team manages cyber and Tech E&O claims. These service descriptions do not establish response quality or payment of a particular loss. 9,1

WithCoverage says its claims team, including attorneys, manages the claims process and recommends changes to reduce future exposure. That assistance is separate from the issuing insurer’s policy obligations and does not establish claims-payment speed or outcomes. 26,21
