Key Differences Between Coalition and Coverdash
A Platform Entry Point Can Create a Brokerage Relationship
Using the brokerage service means appointing Coverdash as broker or agent of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 20
That matters if your company already has a broker handling D&O or workers’ compensation. Ask which services the designation covers before proceeding. Coalition’s broker-led process does not itself tell you which retail brokerage agreement you will sign; the proposed advisor and product are separate decisions. 13
Tech E&O and Cyber May Be Packaged Differently
Coverdash separately markets technology E&O for financial harm alleged from technology work and cyber insurance for breaches and attacks. Its Tech E&O FAQ says cyber is bundled in some policies, but not all. 35,40
Coalition markets the combination explicitly. Have each proposal identify whether breach response and technology-service liability are in one policy, and how limits interact. Coverdash’s wider catalogue includes premises and employment-related purchases, but that breadth is evidence of brokerage offerings, not evidence that a particular cyber quote covers the entire company. 1 21
Purchase Fees and Renewal Consent Deserve Separate Attention
Coverdash discloses a Technology Access Fee on each purchased policy, in addition to policy charges, and calls it fully earned and nonrefundable. The disclosure does not give its amount. 23
Coverdash’s renewal authorization permits certain renewals with increases up to 20% where material coverage terms do not change. Coalition describes account-dependent Automatic, Express and Standard cyber renewal paths. The practical comparison is who may proceed without a new instruction, what information you must supply and when to review changes. It is not a forecast of either renewal premium. 24 15
What to Confirm in Quotes
Request the scope of Coverdash’s broker designation, the Technology Access Fee amount and applicable renewal authorization. Ask the placing broker for the insurer and precise cyber/E&O bundle on each alternative. Resolve payment and binding sequence in writing: Coverdash’s record preserves a difference between its FAQ and terms on that sequence. 23 22 20 3
Service Comparison
Coalition vs Coverdash: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Coalition | Coverdash |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Coalition combines commercial insurance offerings with cyber risk-management services. In the United States, Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CIS) is the disclosed insurance producer and surplus lines broker; the issuing insurer is responsible for policy obligations. 2,7 Coalition lists CIS’s California producer and surplus lines license as 0L76155. This is a company disclosure; current license status has not been independently checked with the California regulator. 2 Coalition’s legal page identifies Coalition Incident Response, Inc., doing business as Coalition Security, or independent third parties as security-service providers. Coalition Security does not provide insurance. 2 | Coverdash’s terms name Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC; the LLC provides the insurance brokerage service. It arranges coverage with insurance companies and says it does not underwrite policies. 20 The reviewed corporate pages identify Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC but do not establish their precise ownership relationship or a current controlling parent. 20,26 A partner can put Coverdash’s quote and policy-management experience inside its own website or software. Coverdash’s terms assign insurance solicitation and service to Coverdash rather than the host platform. 27,20 |
| Application process | Coalition directs buyers to an appointed insurance broker and offers help finding access if their broker does not offer Coalition. It describes underwriting that considers industry, finances, operations and security posture. 13 Coalition’s broker instructions describe adding Tech E&O during the cyber quote process, supplying a product or service description and answering contract-related questions. Some quotes require review before a price is released. 12 | Coverdash’s public application begins with an email-address field. Its FAQ says to have your business name, address, industry, annual revenue and employee count ready; it describes online quote comparison and purchasing, with same-day coverage for most policies. 28,22 The FAQ says payment follows choosing and binding a policy, but the terms allow collecting payment before binding and later insurer rejection or repricing. Confirm the effective date and binding confirmation before relying on coverage. 22,20 Using the brokerage service means appointing Coverdash as broker or agent of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 20 |
| Fees and compensation | Coalition says independent producers typically receive commissions based on premium for new and renewed policies. Contingent commissions, placement incentives and compensation for certain cybersecurity sales may also apply. 4 Coalition says it retains part of earned premiums to fund operations and broker commissions and receives additional carrier payments based on the portfolio’s annual loss ratio. 16 The reviewed compensation disclosures do not state the commission percentage, broker fee or total premium for a particular startup quote. Obtain an itemized cost and compensation explanation from the placing broker. 4,16 | Coverdash discloses a Technology Access Fee on each purchased policy, in addition to policy charges, and calls it fully earned and nonrefundable. The disclosure does not give its amount. 23 Coverdash may receive insurer or payment-servicer commissions, performance-related contingent or supplemental commissions, and negotiated client fees. It also discloses affinity-referral and administrative-service income. 23 Coverdash’s help center identifies Ascend as its payment and premium-finance partner. It explains that financing pays the annual premium upfront while the customer repays in installments. Confirm the current lender, interest and fees in the payment agreement. 30,24 |
| Servicing and renewals | Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 8 Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 15 | The public sign-in page describes resuming applications, reviewing policies and billing requests, downloading certificates and contacting an account manager. Coverdash’s FAQ directs customers through their account to request coverage changes or cancellation. 29,22 Coverdash’s certificate guide describes self-service PDF certificates, selection of multiple policies and an e-commerce marketplace template. It says requests for agent assistance can take up to two business days. 31 For policies whose billing and premium payment it facilitates, Coverdash’s renewal authorization permits automatic renewal with a premium increase of up to 20% if no material coverage terms change. Larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. 24 The authorization permits necessary renewal paperwork, including a new premium-finance agreement. Customers can opt out or request cancellation through the dashboard, with processing time; the insurer still decides whether to renew. 24 |
