Chubb vs ERGO NEXT Insurance

Compare Chubb’s appointed-agent commercial underwriting with Next Insurance’s digital small-business policies under Munich Re ownership.

Introduction

A contractor or local services firm that wants a phone-or-web quote for general liability may fit Next Insurance’s small-business flow. A software company that needs DigiTech, ForeFront D&O and multinational extensions is asking Chubb (or another specialty market) for a different product set. Munich Re ownership of Next does not make Next a Chubb company. 46 10

Key Differences Between Chubb and Next Insurance

Digital Small-Business Brand Versus Global Commercial Group

NEXT Insurance adopted the ERGO NEXT Insurance brand on 15 January 2026 after Munich Re completed a full acquisition in July 2025. That ownership is not Chubb’s. Chubb’s U.S. commercial policies are issued by Chubb-group companies. 45 46 2

Next’s public materials identify affiliated or partner insurers that may appear on Next policies. Chubb’s issuing companies are a separate group. 44 30

Quote Path

Next describes an online quote process and states that a quote is not a binder. Chubb’s eligible small-commercial quotes run through appointed agents on Marketplace. Read Next’s quote conditions before treating an online indication as bound coverage. 44 9

Technology Depth

Next’s core catalogue is small-business property-casualty, with professional liability and cyber described as enhancements or referrals on Next’s professional-liability and cyber pages. Chubb’s DigiTech is a dedicated technology E&O, media and cyber product. Next’s published small-business professional and cyber materials are not the same document as DigiTech; that does not prove Next never places a similar grant through a partner. 52 10

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Named Next insurer versus named Chubb affiliate. 44 30

  • Whether professional/cyber on Next is an endorsement or a referral compared with DigiTech. 58 10

  • State availability on Next’s license and appetite facts versus Chubb’s “not all products in all states” rule. 48 2

  • Claims reporting to Next versus 1-800-CLAIMS-0 if Chubb is the issuer. 69 33

Service Comparison

Chubb vs Next Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaChubbERGO NEXT Insurance
Business role

Chubb is the marketing name for subsidiaries of Chubb Limited, a Swiss holding company, that provide insurance and related services. U.S. commercial policies are issued by U.S.-based Chubb underwriting companies, not by Chubb Limited itself. 39,2,25

Commercial buyers typically reach Chubb through independent agents and brokers. Chubb appoints producers, operates agent portals, and identifies Chubb Insurance Solutions Agency, Inc. as the licensed agency that administers Chubb Access appointments. Surplus-lines products can be offered only through licensed surplus-lines producers. 29,30,2,38

NEXT Insurance adopted the ERGO NEXT Insurance brand on January 15, 2026. Munich Re reports that it completed the full acquisition of Next Insurance in July 2025 and increased its ownership to 100%; ERGO is Munich Re’s primary-insurance business. 45,46

The ERGO NEXT terms group Next Insurance, Inc. with Next Insurance US Company, Next First Insurance Agency, Inc., Next Claims Management, Inc. and AP Intego Insurance Group, LLC. The terms describe ERGO NEXT as an agent representing insurance companies, while the license disclosure distinguishes agency subsidiaries from the affiliated insurer. 47,48

Application process

Appointed agents and brokers can quote, and for eligible risks issue, small-business and cyber accounts through Chubb Marketplace, and can use Cyber Central for an express cyber quoting path. Marketplace cyber quoting is described for eligible risks with less than $100 million in revenue; referred risks go to underwriters. Businesses seeking coverage are directed to an agent, a U.S. contact form, or chubbsmallbusiness.com for small-business quote inquiries. The reviewed public pages do not describe a general-public online bind for middle-market technology programs. 9,10,30,31,12

The public quote flow starts with industry and state, then shows stages for coverage, application, quote and purchase. ERGO NEXT says supported policies can be quoted and bought online; licensed advisors are also available. 66,50,67

A complete application and carrier underwriting approval are required. The terms say a premium payment does not bind coverage until the carrier approves the application, and a payment is refunded if the carrier declines it. 47,51

Coverage lines

For technology companies, Chubb markets DigiTech Enterprise Risk Management as a single policy addressing technology errors and omissions, media and cyber exposures, alongside Cyber ERM for cyber, privacy and media and Pro ERM for professional, media and cyber. Actual terms, limits and exclusions are in the issued form. 10,9,4

Chubb’s U.S. commercial catalogue for technology and other businesses also includes package policies (BOP, Benchmarq and Customarq combining property, business income and general liability), workers’ compensation, commercial auto, umbrella and excess, ForeFront management-liability parts (including D&O, employment practices, fiduciary and crime), property, inland marine, builders’ risk, equipment breakdown, ocean cargo, environmental/pollution, surety, product recall, and representations and warranties for large-account multinational programs. 4,7,11,15,25,27

ERGO NEXT directly markets general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial property, professional liability/errors and omissions, and a business owner’s policy that combines general liability with commercial property. Its commercial-auto page instead sends buyers to Progressive and says that coverage is provided through a trusted insurance partner. 51,53,54,52,55,56

Several prominently marketed protections are not standalone ERGO NEXT policies: tools and equipment is a general-liability add-on for contractors and cleaning businesses; cyber can be added to general or professional liability; employment practices liability, liquor liability and commercial umbrella/excess are general-liability add-ons; hired and non-owned auto can be added to general liability for personal vehicles; and product liability is included with general liability for eligible retailers and online sellers. 57,58,59,60,61,62,63

The 2026 general liability and BOP coverage guides list optional damage-to-rented-premises, garagekeepers, abuse-and-molestation and lost-key protections for specified business classes. These are coverage enhancements within eligible ERGO NEXT programs, not a documented set of standalone policies available to every direct buyer. 71,72

Commercial auto is routed to Progressive. ERGO NEXT’s contractor-bond page routes buyers through Liberty Mutual Surety and expressly says ERGO NEXT does not itself offer contractor license bonds, so neither partner product should be mistaken for a policy issued by the ERGO NEXT group. 56,64

Website descriptions and coverage examples are general and illustrative. The terms say an actual policy or third-party agreement is the contract, with coverage subject to its conditions, exclusions and underwriting; the posted specimen cannot establish the form offered to a new applicant. 47,70

Availability

Chubb’s U.S. site states that products and services vary by jurisdiction and are not available or suitable for all users. Company license materials describe Federal Insurance Company and ACE American Insurance Company as admitted property-and-casualty insurers in all 50 states. That company-wide licensing statement is not a product-by-product availability matrix. 2,25,36

California’s regulator lists Federal Insurance Company (NAIC 20281) and ACE American Insurance Company (NAIC 22667) as admitted property-and-casualty insurers in the Chubb Ltd group. The reviewed product pages do not publish a California-specific eligibility list for technology, DigiTech ERM or small-business BOP. Surplus-lines placements, if used, must go through a licensed surplus-lines producer. U.S. branch offices are not evidence that a product is available in California. 41,42,43,2,35

ERGO NEXT publishes agency licenses across the states and Washington, D.C., but its terms say products are sold only in a limited number of states, availability and coverage vary by state, and underwriting approval is required. A producer-license list therefore does not establish that a particular product is available for a buyer’s profession and location. 48,47,65

Claims assistance

Chubb publishes 24/7 claim reporting at 1-800-CLAIMS-0, product-specific first-notice emails including cyberclaimreport@chubb.com and a 24/7 cyber incident hotline at 1-800-817-2665, plus a Small Commercial client portal for eligible policyholders to report claims and upload documents. Claims-page satisfaction figures are company-reported survey results and do not independently establish claims-handling quality for a given loss. 32,33,34,9,30

ERGO NEXT describes online or app-based claim reporting, document upload, status access and a dedicated claims advocate. The issuing insurer and policy still control coverage and payment, so confirm the notice route for each direct or partner-issued policy. 69,47
