Relm Insurance vs
USI Insurance Services
How Relm’s US MGA products for AI and digital assets differ from USI’s brokerage, including unresolved California routes on both sides.
Introduction
Relm’s AI suite (NovaAI, PontaAI, RescaAI and related packages) is managing-general-agent product, with Trisura described as a fronting partner. USI is not that managing general agent. Wanting Relm wording still requires a retailer to place it, and workers’ compensation and benefits are not the center of Relm’s published AI suite. Whether that retailer is USI is a quote question. California contracting is still open on both firms’ public materials. 6 10 24

Key Differences Between Relm and USI
MGA Versus Retail Broker
Confirm who the surplus-lines or retail producer of record is if Relm paper is used in California. 2 36
AI Product Names Versus Practice List
Relm’s branded covers and digital-assets and generative-AI product names are specific. USI’s Technology list uses generic errors and omissions, directors and officers, and PrivaSafe labels. Map the actual forms; public names will not match. A name missing from USI’s list is not proof the line cannot be placed. 5 24
Fronting Insurer
Relm’s Trisura relationship is a named fronting fact to verify on the binder. USI’s PrivaSafe issuer is still unpublished. 10 29
California
Both firms leave California product routes unresolved on the public pages cited here. That is shared diligence, not a reason to prefer one homepage. 2 36
Intake
Relm’s contact path is managing-general-agent intake, not a USI office appointment. If you want Relm paper, ask USI in writing whether it will submit there; if it will not, you need another retailer. 11 19
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Contracting insurer on Relm paper (including Trisura fronting) versus USI’s unnamed markets. 10 29
- California surplus-lines or admitted path for each AI product. 2 36
- Digital-asset and kidnap/ransom Relm products if those exposures exist; do not assume USI’s Technology page includes them. 14
- Ordinary workers’ compensation and benefits still to be brokered. 28
Service Comparison
Relm vs USI: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Relm Insurance | USI Insurance Services |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Relm Insurance is a specialty insurance business serving emerging industries, including artificial intelligence. Its Bermuda insurer and US distribution operation have distinct roles. 1,3,2 Relm identifies Relm Insurance Ltd. as its Bermuda-regulated insurer and Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. as a US licensed producer. It describes its US operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with delegated insurance authority. The Bermuda entity says it deals only through appropriately licensed brokers. 2,3 | USI describes itself as a U.S. insurance brokerage and consulting firm that arranges property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk, program, and retirement solutions. The reviewed official pages do not identify USI as the insurer that issues commercial policies. 16,15,22,35 USI’s commissions page states that, as a licensed insurance producer, it may advise on insurance contracts, sell insurance, and obtain coverages for clients. Privacy and staff materials identify the operating company as USI Insurance Services LLC. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. 22,21,36 On 31 August 2026, Aon plc announced a definitive agreement to acquire USI from KKR and other shareholders for a $17.0 billion purchase price, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 subject to customary conditions including regulatory approvals. Aon stated that Aon and USI will continue to operate independently until the closing date. The reviewed announcement does not establish that the transaction has closed. 35 |
| Coverage lines | Relm describes NOVAAI as cyber and technology errors and omissions insurance for AI platforms and developers. Its advertised protections include AI product and service liability, AI-generated content disputes, bias allegations and regulatory exposures; fines are covered only where legally insurable. These descriptions are not the terms of an issued policy. 7,6 Relm markets PONTAAI as an excess difference-in-conditions wrap for AI-related gaps in existing liability programs. Its description includes negligence, intellectual-property infringement, discrimination and other AI liabilities. Whether it fills a particular exclusion depends on the underlying policies and the quoted wrap wording. 8 Relm describes RESCAAI as first-party response insurance for businesses using third-party AI in operations or products. Advertised benefits address business interruption, reputational harm, AI-related product recall expenses and incident response, subject to the policy’s triggers and terms. 9 Relm’s wider catalogue lists D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability, professional E&O, media liability, crime, cyber, technology E&O, general and product liability, excess liability, property, inland marine, contract surety and kidnap and ransom. It also lists digital-asset crime, slashing and smart-contract risks. These are advertised lines, not a California eligibility list. 4 Relm’s tailored-product catalogue also identifies digital-asset and Web3 packages, fintech products for technology and financial-services providers, and space products for upstream and downstream businesses. Its kidnap and ransom announcement targets digital-asset and cannabis individuals and organizations. 5,14 | USI’s Technology practice lists insurance placement for property; business income and contingent business income; worldwide cargo and stock; errors and omissions; product liability; directors and officers liability; network security / USI PrivaSafe; and international. Those labels describe brokerage services. Limits, exclusions, insurer, and whether a given startup qualifies remain in a quote and policy. 24,29 USI’s commercial property and casualty pages describe advice and placement on workers’ compensation, property, general liability, auto liability, umbrella/excess, executive and professional risks, cyber, environmental, product liability, and related claims and risk-control services. Other industry pages add employment practices, crime, fiduciary, professional E&O, kidnap and ransom, representations and warranties, medical professional (malpractice) liability, and required bonding in the healthcare practice. Availability and wording vary by client, insurer, and jurisdiction. 23,25,26,27,31 USI’s employee-benefits practice describes consulting to design, price, and administer employer benefit programs, including underwriting analytics, HR administration support, population health, compliance/healthcare reform guidance, pharmacy and ancillary consulting. The private-equity practice separately lists employee health and welfare insurance services after a transaction. These pages describe consulting and placement services, not a specific insured health plan or carrier. 28,26 |
| Availability | Relm’s legal page lists California insurance producer license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. This is company-reported and was not independently verified in a regulator record; that row does not list a California surplus-lines license. 2 The reviewed AI product, US MGA and legal pages do not establish the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, or placing broker for a California NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI policy. California product availability remains to be confirmed for the applicant. 2,3,6 | USI states that it is headquartered at 100 Summit Lake Drive, Suite 400, Valhalla, New York, with more than 10,000 professionals across over 200 U.S. offices, and that it serves every state. That is a company description of its office network and service footprint. It does not, by itself, establish that a particular commercial product is admitted, surplus-lines, or otherwise available in California or any other named state. 18,16,19,15 A USI Insurance Services LLC staff biography lists a San Francisco office and prints CA DOI License # 0G11911. The reviewed usi.com practice pages do not state which commercial products are available to California-domiciled startups, whether placements are admitted or surplus lines, or which licensed entity would appear on a California policy. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. A California office address is not treated as product eligibility. 36,24,23,18 |
| Access to insurers | Relm’s fronting announcement names Trisura Specialty Insurance Company in connection with US digital-asset risks, including D&O, cyber, technology E&O and crime. A fronting insurer issues the policy while another insurer supplies risk capacity. This announcement does not establish Trisura as the issuer of every Relm product or of a California AI policy. 10 | USI’s reviewed product and PrivaSafe pages do not name the insurers that issue its commercial, technology, or cyber placements. Privacy materials say USI may disclose personal information to third-party insurance carriers as needed to provide insurance services. A 2021 claims kit lists many insurer claim-reporting contacts for clients who already have those carriers; that directory is not a current placement panel or underwriting list. 29,24,23,21,33 |
| Application process | Relm provides an inquiry form requesting contact details, company name and location. Its US launch describes access through distribution partners, and the website states that Relm Insurance Ltd. deals through licensed brokers. The reviewed pages do not establish instant quoting or online binding. 11,3 | USI does not publish a self-serve commercial quote flow on the reviewed pages. Technology and P&C inquiries are directed to pcinquiries@usi.com or a local office. The contact page includes a website message box that USI warns is not secured in transit and should not be used for sensitive information. Small- and medium-sized management-liability inquiries are also directed to Select.Business@usi.com. No public binding timetable or online eligibility tool was found. 24,23,19,31 |
