Marsh vs
Relm Insurance
Compare Marsh’s technology brokerage with Relm’s distinct AI products, including the unresolved California issuing route.
Introduction
Marsh offers technology brokerage and professional-liability advice. Relm markets separate AI products for developers, businesses using AI and gaps in existing liability programs. An AI company should first identify whether it is insuring customer claims, its own interruption costs or a specific exclusion, then compare the proposed Relm contract with the placement Marsh develops. 3 13 38

Key Differences Between Marsh and Relm
AI Products Address Different Losses
Relm describes NOVAAI as cyber and technology E&O for AI platforms and developers, while RESCAAI addresses first-party losses for businesses using third-party AI. Those are different insured interests. Marsh’s professional and cyber practices can support a placement discussion, but their service descriptions do not supply equivalent AI wording. Request the trigger and insured party for each proposed coverage rather than comparing an undifferentiated AI label. 39 41 13 8
An Excess Wrap Depends on the Existing Program
Relm’s PONTAAI is described as an excess difference-in-conditions wrap for AI-related gaps. Whether it addresses an exclusion depends on both the underlying insurance and the wrap’s wording. Ask the arranging adviser to identify the attachment point, any conditions for coverage below that point and the treatment of the alleged gap. It should not be assumed to replace every primary policy. 40 17
The US MGA Is Not Automatically the Insurer
Relm distinguishes its Bermuda insurer from its US producer/MGA operation. Its published California producer number does not establish the issuer or surplus-lines route for an AI quote. Nor should a historical fronting arrangement for digital-asset risks be assigned to every AI product. Marsh is also an intermediary, so either proposal needs the legal insurer and placement chain identified. 34 35 42 18
What to Confirm in Quotes
Provide existing policies and descriptions of sold and deployed AI. Request the California route, forms, insurer, exclusions, fees and incident contacts. Relm’s claims-service timing is a company statement, not a settlement guarantee; confirm which administrator and notice instructions apply to the actual product. 44 45 10
Service Comparison
Marsh vs Relm: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Marsh | Relm Insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 18,17,2 Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 18,17,19,20,1,31 | Relm Insurance is a specialty insurance business serving emerging industries, including artificial intelligence. Its Bermuda insurer and US distribution operation have distinct roles. 33,35,34 Relm identifies Relm Insurance Ltd. as its Bermuda-regulated insurer and Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. as a US licensed producer. It describes its US operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with delegated insurance authority. The Bermuda entity says it deals only through appropriately licensed brokers. 34,35 |
| Coverage lines | Marsh’s Cyber Insurance practice markets brokerage of cyber policies and related analytics products. Marsh McLennan Agency’s cyber page lists solution areas such as cybercrime, extortion and ransomware, media liability, network interruption and privacy regulatory defense costs. The Technology Practice’s data-center service describes programs that can include property damage, equipment breakdown, business interruption, cyber, general liability and surety for power and interconnection obligations. Stratus is marketed as an operational property exchange for digital infrastructure with potential access to up to $10 billion of property capacity on a single placement; at launch it is focused on property, with inland marine, cyber and casualty described as possible later lines. These are marketed capabilities, not a standard startup package or guaranteed limits. 8,24,4,5,3 Marsh’s Directors and Officers page offers D&O program design for public, private and non-profit companies. Its Employment Practices page offers EPLI, including endorsements described for firms with more than 4,000 employees and for midsize firms with 250 to 4,000 employees. Its Professional Liability page offers E&O risk-transfer design, including for technology businesses. MMA’s executive and professional liability practice lists D&O, E&O, EPL, commercial crime/fidelity, cyber, fiduciary, media, intellectual property and kidnap-and-ransom among policies it places. Endorsement headcount bands and product labels do not establish that a particular Bay Area company qualifies or that wording is equivalent across insurers. 11,12,13,25,14 MMA’s business-insurance hub links casualty, property, surety, cyber, executive and professional liability, international placements, captives and small-business programs. Its property page covers commercial property and builders’ risk. Its casualty page includes workers’ compensation. MMA and Marsh sites also market employee health and benefits consulting and placement. MMA’s compensation-guide landing page exists for 2026 but the PDF body was not fully extracted here. 23,26,27,28,29,18 | Relm describes NOVAAI as cyber and technology errors and omissions insurance for AI platforms and developers. Its advertised protections include AI product and service liability, AI-generated content disputes, bias allegations and regulatory exposures; fines are covered only where legally insurable. These descriptions are not the terms of an issued policy. 39,38 Relm markets PONTAAI as an excess difference-in-conditions wrap for AI-related gaps in existing liability programs. Its description includes negligence, intellectual-property infringement, discrimination and other AI liabilities. Whether it fills a particular exclusion depends on the underlying policies and the quoted wrap wording. 40 Relm describes RESCAAI as first-party response insurance for businesses using third-party AI in operations or products. Advertised benefits address business interruption, reputational harm, AI-related product recall expenses and incident response, subject to the policy’s triggers and terms. 41 Relm’s wider catalogue lists D&O, employment practices, fiduciary liability, professional E&O, media liability, crime, cyber, technology E&O, general and product liability, excess liability, property, inland marine, contract surety and kidnap and ransom. It also lists digital-asset crime, slashing and smart-contract risks. These are advertised lines, not a California eligibility list. 36 Relm’s tailored-product catalogue also identifies digital-asset and Web3 packages, fintech products for technology and financial-services providers, and space products for upstream and downstream businesses. Its kidnap and ransom announcement targets digital-asset and cannabis individuals and organizations. 37,46 |
| Application process | The public Marsh path to speak with a broker is an inquiry, not an online bind. Contact pages ask you to choose an inquiry type, including a sales or RFP route. The business-inquiry page says to complete a form and that a representative will respond within 48 hours; it points existing-policy certificate, billing and policy questions elsewhere. The inquiry page does not display premiums or bind coverage. The 48-hour response time is a company statement, not a binding or service guarantee. 15,16,21 Marsh describes a broker-led placement: identifying insurers for the risk, negotiating coverage and price, and, in core US broking segments, disclosing quotes and premium indications received. It may share incumbent or competing insurer names, pricing objectives, expiring terms, or give an insurer a last look when it believes that is in the client’s interest or the client instructs it. Those market practices are disclosure statements, not a guaranteed outcome or turnaround. 18,17 | Relm provides an inquiry form requesting contact details, company name and location. Its US launch describes access through distribution partners, and the website states that Relm Insurance Ltd. deals through licensed brokers. The reviewed pages do not establish instant quoting or online binding. 43,35 |
| Availability | Marsh markets services in 130 countries. MMA is described as serving middle-market companies in the United States and Canada. Reviewed pages do not publish a product-by-state eligibility schedule, admitted versus surplus-lines map, or a California-only startup program. A California office mention, if any, would not by itself establish that a given policy can be issued to a California company. Confirm licensed producer, surplus-lines broker if used, and product availability for the insured’s locations. 1,22,20,6,3 Marsh Affinity’s licensing page lists Marsh USA LLC property-and-casualty licenses as of 8 March 2024, including California license 437153. A 2006 California Insurance Commissioner decision used license 0437153 for Marsh USA, Inc. dba Marsh Risk and Insurance Services. Present-day California authority remains unverified against a current regulator license record. A license number is not a determination that a specific coverage is available in California. 19,31,32 | Relm’s legal page lists California insurance producer license 6013054 for Relm US Insurance Solutions Inc. This is company-reported and was not independently verified in a regulator record; that row does not list a California surplus-lines license. 34 The reviewed AI product, US MGA and legal pages do not establish the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, or placing broker for a California NOVAAI, PONTAAI or RESCAAI policy. California product availability remains to be confirmed for the applicant. 34,35,38 |
| Access to insurers | Marsh and MMA describe access to multiple insurers rather than a single issuing carrier for all business. MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers. Stratus is a prior-submit exchange in which participating insurers evaluate each risk individually; the page does not name those insurers. Marsh’s compensation and transparency pages say Marsh or affiliates may receive insurer consulting compensation and may own equity interests in certain insurers or reinsurers, with a list on the transparency site. Victor, an affiliated MGU and wholesale broker, is described as accessing markets retail Marsh US cannot offer directly; that path is documented for some programs and is not assumed for every placement. Ask for the issuing insurer, surplus-lines status and proposed forms on the quote. 23,5,17,18,19 | Relm’s fronting announcement names Trisura Specialty Insurance Company in connection with US digital-asset risks, including D&O, cyber, technology E&O and crime. A fronting insurer issues the policy while another insurer supplies risk capacity. This announcement does not establish Trisura as the issuer of every Relm product or of a California AI policy. 42 |
