Marsh vs Newfront

Compare Marsh and Newfront on contract administration, vendor insurance and the service agreement behind a growing company’s program.

Introduction

Marsh provides insurance placement, analytics and claims advice. Newfront combines brokerage with Navigator and tools that support contract and vendor-insurance work; WTW completed its acquisition in January 2026. For a company handling more customer and supplier contracts, compare how the proposed team will turn insurance requirements into confirmed coverage and monitored obligations. 2 40 63 34

Key Differences Between Marsh and Newfront

Contract Tools Need an Accountable Reviewer

Newfront describes tools that extract insurance requirements, compare them with policies and notify its team, plus vendor-certificate tracking. Those functions do not establish that every requirement is met or every gap detected. Marsh’s placement process describes insurer selection and negotiation. Ask each adviser to identify who interprets customer clauses, requests endorsements and signs off on the final insurance response. 64 65 17

Included Tools Do Not Make Every Service Free

Newfront says Partner Management is included in client service agreements at no additional cost. That statement concerns the tool, not all brokerage services. Marsh’s compensation guide likewise separates client fees, commissions and additional remuneration. Compare written service scopes and charges, including vendor follow-up and contract review, instead of treating a platform inclusion statement as a complete price. 63 35 18

Corporate Integration Is Not Coverage Confirmation

Newfront’s privacy notice describes WTW integration as ongoing after the completed acquisition. Confirm which producer, team and systems will support this engagement. Marsh also operates through distinct US segments. Regardless of organizational structure, Newfront’s terms require carrier approval and written confirmation for requested coverage changes; a tool submission should not be sent to a customer as proof that an endorsement is effective. 36 35 18

What to Confirm in Quotes

Provide sample customer and supplier requirements. Request the assigned reviewers, included tools, endorsement process, insurer and California acceptance. Define how claims advocates will handle a contract-related coverage dispute: both firms describe assistance with insurers, not a guarantee that the insurer will agree or pay. 66 10

Service Comparison

Marsh vs Newfront: documented services and availability

CriteriaMarshNewfront
Business role

Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 18,17,2

Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 18,17,19,20,1,31

WTW announced that it completed its acquisition of Newfront on January 27, 2026. Newfront’s Business Insurance team joined WTW’s Risk & Broking segment, while Total Rewards joined Health, Wealth & Career. 34

Newfront’s current terms use the name Newfront Insurance Services. An older official disclosure identifies ABD Insurance and Financial Services, Inc. as the agency behind the Newfront brand following its 2022 merger. The current site calls Newfront Insurance Services a trade name; confirm the full contracting producer name on your engagement agreement. 35,33,37

Newfront’s brokerage team analyzes risks and negotiates insurance placement. Its claims service acts as a liaison with the carrier. The broker’s advice and advocacy do not make Newfront the insurer responsible for the policy. 40,44,66,35

Coverage lines

Marsh’s Cyber Insurance practice markets brokerage of cyber policies and related analytics products. Marsh McLennan Agency’s cyber page lists solution areas such as cybercrime, extortion and ransomware, media liability, network interruption and privacy regulatory defense costs. The Technology Practice’s data-center service describes programs that can include property damage, equipment breakdown, business interruption, cyber, general liability and surety for power and interconnection obligations. Stratus is marketed as an operational property exchange for digital infrastructure with potential access to up to $10 billion of property capacity on a single placement; at launch it is focused on property, with inland marine, cyber and casualty described as possible later lines. These are marketed capabilities, not a standard startup package or guaranteed limits. 8,24,4,5,3

Marsh’s Directors and Officers page offers D&O program design for public, private and non-profit companies. Its Employment Practices page offers EPLI, including endorsements described for firms with more than 4,000 employees and for midsize firms with 250 to 4,000 employees. Its Professional Liability page offers E&O risk-transfer design, including for technology businesses. MMA’s executive and professional liability practice lists D&O, E&O, EPL, commercial crime/fidelity, cyber, fiduciary, media, intellectual property and kidnap-and-ransom among policies it places. Endorsement headcount bands and product labels do not establish that a particular Bay Area company qualifies or that wording is equivalent across insurers. 11,12,13,25,14

MMA’s business-insurance hub links casualty, property, surety, cyber, executive and professional liability, international placements, captives and small-business programs. Its property page covers commercial property and builders’ risk. Its casualty page includes workers’ compensation. MMA and Marsh sites also market employee health and benefits consulting and placement. MMA’s compensation-guide landing page exists for 2026 but the PDF body was not fully extracted here. 23,26,27,28,29,18

Newfront’s casualty offering lists general liability, product liability, commercial auto liability, workers’ compensation, umbrella and excess liability, and environmental and pollution liability. Its workers’ compensation practice describes both conventional programs and structures with larger deductibles or premiums adjusted using loss experience. 42,47

Executive Risk covers the brokerage’s management-liability work: directors and officers (D&O), employment practices, and fiduciary liability for benefit-plan decision makers. Its catalogue also lists professional errors and omissions (E&O), fidelity and crime, kidnap and ransom, independent-director liability, local foreign policies, and Side A difference-in-conditions D&O protection. 43

The Cyber Risk practice offers cyber liability and technology E&O, with listed areas including data breaches, network-security liability, business interruption, and cyber extortion or ransomware. Newfront describes negotiating wording with insurers and working with clients on security controls and breach-response preparation. 44

The property practice offers property and business-interruption programs, cargo stock-throughput coverage for goods moving through the supply chain, and catastrophe options including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire, and terrorism. It also describes equipment-breakdown risks, layered placements with multiple insurers, deductible buy-downs, and parametric insurance that uses an agreed event trigger. 45,60

Newfront arranges contract and commercial surety bonds, including performance, payment, and subdivision or developer bonds. Its surety practice also markets subcontractor-default and project-loss insurance. These are distinct arrangements; ask for the bond’s indemnity obligations as well as its price. 46

For venture-capital funds, Newfront markets Venture Capital Asset Protection (VCAP), combining management liability, professional liability, outside-directorship liability, employment practices, and fiduciary liability. It also describes a custom endorsement negotiated with participating carriers to adjust coverage, conditions, exclusions, and definitions for the fund. 48

Newfront’s Asset Protection Program serves lenders and loan servicers with lender-placed insurance and coverage for lender-owned property. It spans real-estate, equipment, and auto lending, with services for loan tracking, borrower notices, insurance placement, and claims administration support. 49

Newfront’s life-science practice designs programs for clinical trials, product liability and recall, and describes intellectual-property insurance work. Its digital-asset practice addresses theft and custody risks; its digital-health team designs programs around professional, product, and cyber liability for telemedicine businesses. 50,51,52

Other offerings include aviation insurance for aircraft and operators; event-cancellation, weather, and parametric solutions for entertainment businesses; and representations-and-warranties, tax, and contingent-liability insurance for transactions. Newfront also advises on captives and other alternative ways to finance risk. 53,54,55,60

The employee-benefits practice helps design and administer benefit programs, with HR support and global-benefits services. Its strategic-planning team evaluates fully insured, level-funded, self-funded, and captive arrangements, including stop-loss program design and pharmacy-benefit options. Retirement and compensation consulting are separate services within Total Rewards. 56,57

Application process

The public Marsh path to speak with a broker is an inquiry, not an online bind. Contact pages ask you to choose an inquiry type, including a sales or RFP route. The business-inquiry page says to complete a form and that a representative will respond within 48 hours; it points existing-policy certificate, billing and policy questions elsewhere. The inquiry page does not display premiums or bind coverage. The 48-hour response time is a company statement, not a binding or service guarantee. 15,16,21

Marsh describes a broker-led placement: identifying insurers for the risk, negotiating coverage and price, and, in core US broking segments, disclosing quotes and premium indications received. It may share incumbent or competing insurer names, pricing objectives, expiring terms, or give an insurer a last look when it believes that is in the client’s interest or the client instructs it. Those market practices are disclosure statements, not a guaranteed outcome or turnaround. 18,17

The public buying path starts with a consultation request. The form asks for your role, company, contact details, industry, employee count, and the service you need. It does not display a premium or bind coverage. 41

Newfront describes assembling a team for your industry, reviewing your business and risk exposures, and presenting that information to underwriters. Its technology practice describes onboarding and renewal reviews, with additional market shopping when appropriate. The reviewed public pages do not promise a universal quote or binding turnaround. 40,61,41

Some online services may require you to appoint Newfront as broker of record—the broker designated to service your insurance. Ask which tools and services are included before signing that appointment. 35

Life-science clients can use Newfront’s Clinical Trial Portal to check country requirements, upload documents, and request quotes. The public description does not establish automatic approval or a guaranteed time to receive coverage. 50

Servicing and renewals

Marsh markets ongoing consulting, analytics and client-advisory services alongside brokerage, including Marsh Risk Consulting, risk analytics and captive solutions named in the compensation guide. MMA describes risk-control, benchmarking and claims management as part of casualty and property service. Core US broking segments pledge to disclose quotes automatically; other segments do so upon request. Public pages do not document a self-serve policy portal comparable to an online-only insurer, and they do not publish a universal renewal timetable. 18,17,23,26,27,2

Newfront says Navigator brings together policy documents, certificates, claims information, payment tools, and communication with the service team. Its Executive Risk page describes renewal submissions pre-filled with historical data and document sharing with access controls. 62,43

A policy or coverage change requested through Navigator remains preliminary until the applicable carrier approves it and provides written confirmation. A submitted request is not evidence that the new coverage is in force. 35

Newfront says its Partner Management tool is included in client service agreements at no additional cost. It tracks vendor certificates, expiration dates, compliance issues, and follow-up activity inside Navigator. This is a statement about that tool, not a promise of free brokerage services. 63

Newfront’s Contract Review tool extracts insurance requirements, compares them with current policies, provides source citations, and notifies the Newfront team. Its Coverage Gap Analysis tool supports the team’s policy reviews. These are company-described functions; the reviewed materials do not independently establish accuracy or prove that all gaps will be detected. 64,65

Newfront’s March 2026 privacy notice describes integration with WTW as ongoing and anticipates substantial integration by year-end, subject to legal and contractual limits. That is a stated plan, not confirmation that systems, data practices, or service agreements have already been unified. 36

Fees and compensation

Marsh’s US compensation guide says it may be paid by insurer retail commissions, client fees (often in a written Client Service Agreement, sometimes crediting commissions), wholesale commissions, insurer consulting compensation, supplemental commissions, compensation for facilities or other insurer arrangements, interest on premium accounts, and other benefits. Marsh says it does not accept contingent commissions on domestic placements for US clients in core broking operations, except for employee health and benefits or when acting as managing general agent or underwriting manager; Marsh McLennan Agency does accept contingent commissions. Standard public premium ranges or a startup fee schedule were not found. Request an account-specific disclosure of commissions, fees, contingent or supplemental amounts, premium finance charges and any affiliated-market compensation. 18,17,30

A standard business-insurance fee schedule, commission percentage, or premium range was not found in the reviewed business, consultation, and general-terms pages. Request an account-specific disclosure of brokerage fees, insurer commissions, other remuneration, and any separately billed services. 40,41,35

For Total Rewards, the order form sets compensation. The published terms allow insurer-paid commissions or client fees and disclose additional carrier compensation tied to the wider book of business. They also address non-cash compensation, retained unused carrier funds, and separate pass-through expenses. Newfront says supplemental commissions will not affect its recommendations. 58

Total Rewards agreements renew annually unless written nonrenewal notice is given at least 60 days in advance. Termination for convenience is allowed during renewal terms with 60 days’ written notice; the client must retain Newfront as broker of record through the current agreement term. Separately, a participating Block Strategy client ending the agreement for convenience during an active affected policy can owe an early-exit fee based on remaining premium savings. 58
