Layr vs
Risklytics
Distinguish a broker’s outsourced servicing platform from appointing a frontier-tech broker when a small account develops complex technology exposures.
Introduction
A small business may encounter Layr through its existing broker's portal just as its insurance needs become more technical. Layr provides broker workflow and support; Risklytics describes acting as the broker for frontier-tech placements. The question is whether to improve servicing within the current relationship or appoint someone to reconsider the placement—not whether one portal has a longer coverage list. 2 5 16

Key Differences Between Layr and Risklytics
A Portal Change Can Leave the Broker of Record in Place
Layr says its brokerage customer retains broker-of-record status and commissions while Layr handles sales, service and support. Risklytics describes its own submission and placement work. A move to a Layr-powered experience therefore need not be a broker replacement; moving the account to Risklytics is a separate engagement question. Identify who is responsible for advising on a new autonomous product rather than inferring that role from the logo on a login screen. 2 6 17
The Broker's Markets Determine What the Workflow Can Deliver
Layr says it can use national insurers, wholesalers and the brokerage's existing carriers. Its current demonstration lists six policy choices, but does not guarantee every choice in every implementation. Risklytics markets technology E&O and equipment among a wider placement brief for frontier technology. This is not evidence that a Layr-supported broker cannot access those needs; ask that broker which markets it can use for the actual operation. 6 4 18
Renewal Work and Payment Arrangements Need Separate Owners
Layr describes collecting renewal information, negotiating terms and notifying customers whose policies need updates 60 days before renewal. Risklytics' reviewed materials do not specify a comparable remarketing commitment. Layr's broker FAQ and consumer compensation disclosure also describe different payment models whose applicability is unresolved. Do not assume that retaining broker commissions, outsourcing service and financing premiums are the same charge. 6 8 20 21
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Map the broker of record, Layr support team if applicable, submission owner and issuing insurer; no Risklytics–Layr relationship is established here. 2 17
- Request the current technology-risk options and state eligibility, rather than relying on a portal illustration. Risklytics' California route also remains unconfirmed. 4 16
- Separate service compensation from financing, and agree who obtains updated exposure information before renewal. 8 6 19
Service Comparison
Layr vs Risklytics Insurance: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Layr | Risklytics |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Layr Holdings, Inc. operates withlayr.com and markets the Layr Apex platform and licensed support service. Public materials describe Layr handling sales, service and support while its brokerage customer keeps the broker-of-record relationship; they do not identify Layr as the insurer underwriting every policy. 9,1,2,5 The reviewed sources identify Layr Holdings, Inc., its leaders and several investors, but do not disclose a current controlling parent or ownership percentages. 9,10,12 Layr says a participating brokerage can offload small-business sales, service and support to Layr while retaining broker-of-record status and 100% of its commissions. 2,6 | Risklytics describes itself as a commercial insurance brokerage. Its current legal disclosures identify Risklytics, Inc., doing business as Risklytics Insurance Services, as the producer arranging coverage rather than the insurer. 16,17 |
| Application process | Layr describes an online workflow in which a small-business owner assesses and selects coverage, pays, and then has the submission sent to underwriting. Current pages use different speed claims—10 minutes on New Business Capture and 12 minutes in a 2024 announcement—so neither figure establishes the time to receive or bind an actual quote. 4,11 | Risklytics says it drafts an application using your description and public business information, including your website, for you to check and sign. It advertises Slack and email placement updates. The application-preparation process and its speed were not tested. 15 Risklytics says it reviews the application with you, approaches suitable insurers and reads quote wording before making a recommendation. Its FAQ says the insurer binds after you accept a quote; timing varies with the coverage and operation. 20 |
| Servicing and renewals | Layr markets a white-labeled portal with licensed support and broker dashboard updates for policies, renewals, claims and payments. A company release also describes policyholder access to documents, quotes, claims, certificates, bills and electronic payments. 5,12 Layr says its team gathers updates, negotiates renewal terms with underwriters and finalizes renewal documents. It describes automatic-renewal policies as hands-free and says customers whose policies need updated information are alerted 60 days before renewal. 6 | Risklytics says a broker remains on the account after placement and certificates can be issued against the binder. Its terms describe portal access to submissions, returned options and coverage records. The reviewed FAQ and contact page do not specify a renewal remarketing commitment or certificate turnaround guarantee. 20,17,21 Risklytics provides a contact form and email support, advertising an email response within a day. That is its stated response target, not a measured service result or emergency claims commitment. 21 |
| Fees and compensation | Layr's current broker FAQ says Layr receives a percentage of premium while the brokerage keeps 100% of commissions. A separate consumer-facing disclosure says carriers pay Layr a commission and businesses may pay a finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The pages do not reconcile which arrangement applies to a particular broker, policyholder or payment plan. 6,8 Layr's consumer-facing compensation disclosure says a business that uses its monthly credit-card payment arrangement can pay a percentage-based finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The page does not provide an account-specific rate, total repayment or cancellation terms. 8 | Risklytics advertises no application charge or additional brokerage fee, says carriers pay commission from premiums, and offers to disclose its earnings on request. Its terms separately allow carrier or wholesaler compensation and carrier-set taxes and policy fees. No buyer-specific premium or commission amount is published on the pricing page. 19,17 |
| Availability | Layr has described brokerage customers across the United States, but the reviewed sources do not provide a product-by-state eligibility table. A national broker audience does not establish that a specific insurer, form or coverage is available in every state. 11,4,6 A Massachusetts Division of Insurance agency-list result indexed in 2026 included Layr Holdings, Inc. with license 17853851 and a 17 March 2027 renewal date. The direct PDF download returned 404 during this review, so current status and authority should be confirmed with the regulator before relying on the entry. 14 | Risklytics publishes agency NPN 22311838 and Massachusetts resident license 3004393145. Its state table, dated September 10, 2026, also lists Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Washington. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified licenses or product eligibility. 16 California is absent from the reviewed agency-license table. A California-authorized producer and product route remain unconfirmed in the reviewed disclosures; this does not establish that Risklytics cannot arrange California coverage. Confirm the responsible producer, authority and insurer for your operation before relying on a quote. 16,17,25 |
