Layr vs Resilience

Separate Layr’s broker-branded servicing platform from Resilience’s cyber insurance and security products.

Introduction

A business owner may encounter Layr through a broker-branded portal rather than choosing it as an insurance company. Resilience is a potential cyber or technology E&O product discussion. Comparing the portal with the specialist therefore starts with identifying what is being purchased: brokerage administration, an insurance policy or security services. 2 5 15

Where Each Provider Shines

  • Independent brokerages can combine workflow software and licensed support for small-commercial accounts under their own brand. 2,3,5
  • Layr describes a broker-branded portal for policy documents, certificates, claims, renewals and payments, supported by licensed staff. 5,12

Where Resilience Shines

  • Technology E&O for software, hardware and technology services 18
  • Financial risk prioritization and multi-entity cyber visibility 22,23

Key Differences Between Layr and Resilience

The Broker Can Remain in Place Behind the Portal

Layr says a participating brokerage can offload small-business sales, service and support to Layr while retaining broker-of-record status and 100% of its commissions. 2,6

Resilience describes a broker channel and names Ocrea as US distributor. These roles could sit at different points in a program, but the shared sources do not establish a Layr–Resilience integration or placement relationship. Ask the broker whether the specialist is an available market and whether the portal would service that policy or only display documents. 19 16 6

A Demonstration Coverage Choice Is Not a Policy Form

Layr's current platform illustration includes cyber among several policy choices. Its previously reviewed dedicated cyber page returned 404, leaving current wording and insurer details unresolved. Resilience has direct cyber and technology E&O product descriptions, but those still do not establish a California quote or the applicant's eligibility. The evidence differs in specificity; an unavailable page is not proof that the broker cannot arrange cyber insurance. 4 7 17 18

Payment Administration and Risk Advice Need Separate Prices

Layr's current broker FAQ says Layr receives a percentage of premium while the brokerage keeps 100% of commissions. A separate consumer-facing disclosure says carriers pay Layr a commission and businesses may pay a finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The pages do not reconcile which arrangement applies to a particular broker, policyholder or payment plan. 6,8

Do not apply the consumer finance-fee disclosure automatically to every Layr Apex implementation. Obtain the agreement governing your broker's portal and the total repayment schedule. Resilience's reviewed pages do not disclose a standard fee schedule, and its disclaimer separates insurance from security-service purchases. A portal financing cost and an Edge subscription would be different expenses, not competing names for the same service. 8 16 22

Layr describes collecting renewal updates and negotiating with underwriters. Resilience's current public pages leave standard renewal requirements unspecified. Assign those tasks to an actual team instead of assuming the presence of a portal completes underwriting. 6 19

What to Confirm in Quotes

Ask the broker to identify the insurer, policy version and state eligibility behind each displayed cyber option; whether Resilience is accessible; and who handles changes and incident notice. Request the applicable Layr compensation and payment agreement separately from any Resilience security-service proposal. Compare policies only once those implementation details are known. 6 5 16

Service Comparison

Layr vs Resilience: documented services and availability

CriteriaLayrResilience
Business role

Layr Holdings, Inc. operates withlayr.com and markets the Layr Apex platform and licensed support service. Public materials describe Layr handling sales, service and support while its brokerage customer keeps the broker-of-record relationship; they do not identify Layr as the insurer underwriting every policy. 9,1,2,5

The reviewed sources identify Layr Holdings, Inc., its leaders and several investors, but do not disclose a current controlling parent or ownership percentages. 9,10,12

Layr says a participating brokerage can offload small-business sales, service and support to Layr while retaining broker-of-record status and 100% of its commissions. 2,6

Resilience combines cyber insurance and technology errors and omissions insurance with cybersecurity risk-management services. 15,17,18

Resilience identifies Ocrea Risk Services, LLC, doing business as Resilience Cyber Insurance Solutions, as its US insurance distributor and lists NPN 19169260. This company disclosure is not independent verification of a California license. 16

Application process

Layr describes an online workflow in which a small-business owner assesses and selects coverage, pays, and then has the submission sent to underwriting. Current pages use different speed claims—10 minutes on New Business Capture and 12 minutes in a 2024 announcement—so neither figure establishes the time to receive or bind an actual quote. 4,11

Resilience presents insurance to brokers through a dedicated broker page and offers a public contact route for product inquiries. The reviewed pages do not document an end-to-end self-service purchase or a guaranteed quote or binding time. 19,21

Access to insurers

Layr says it works with major national insurers, accesses other markets through wholesalers and can use a brokerage customer's existing carriers. It does not publish a current legal-entity carrier panel or promise that every market will quote every account. 6

The reviewed current product, portal and FAQ pages do not identify the issuing insurer or policy form for each available product. Those details must come from the actual proposal and policy. 4,7,6

Resilience’s US disclosure names Homeland Insurance Company of New York or Homeland Insurance Company of Delaware as underwriting insurers. It does not specify which would issue a particular California quote. 16

Fees and compensation

Layr's current broker FAQ says Layr receives a percentage of premium while the brokerage keeps 100% of commissions. A separate consumer-facing disclosure says carriers pay Layr a commission and businesses may pay a finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The pages do not reconcile which arrangement applies to a particular broker, policyholder or payment plan. 6,8

Layr's consumer-facing compensation disclosure says a business that uses its monthly credit-card payment arrangement can pay a percentage-based finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The page does not provide an account-specific rate, total repayment or cancellation terms. 8

The reviewed broker, contact, legal and product pages do not disclose a standard customer fee schedule or insurance commission rates. Request an itemized premium, taxes, placement fees and any separate security-service charges. 19,21,16,24,17,18

Servicing and renewals

Layr markets a white-labeled portal with licensed support and broker dashboard updates for policies, renewals, claims and payments. A company release also describes policyholder access to documents, quotes, claims, certificates, bills and electronic payments. 5,12

Layr says its team gathers updates, negotiates renewal terms with underwriters and finalizes renewal documents. It describes automatic-renewal policies as hands-free and says customers whose policies need updated information are alerted 60 days before renewal. 6

Resilience markets Edge for prioritizing security spending by estimated financial impact, and Arc for viewing cyber risk across multiple entities. These are risk-management services, not additional insurance coverage lines. 22,23

Resilience states that buying insurance is not tied to buying security services. Confirm which services are included in the proposed package and which require a separate agreement. 16

The current broker and product pages reviewed do not specify renewal documentation, a renewal price commitment or a standard servicing turnaround. 19,17,18
