Heffernan Insurance Brokers vs
Vouch
Compare Heffernan and Vouch for technology insurance advice, contract review and changing program structures.
Introduction
Heffernan Insurance Brokers advises technology companies, including later-stage businesses considering global expansion or self-insurance. Vouch is a brokerage for growing companies, offering carrier comparisons and contract reviews. Key Differences Between Heffernan Insurance Brokers and Vouch
Vouch’s Brokerage Is Distinct from Corix
Vouch’s current producer is Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC. The acquired Corix business and Vouch Insurance Company are separate from that brokerage; the acquisition does not make Hiscox the parent of Vouch’s retail broker. Heffernan also places coverage with insurers rather than acting as the insurer for an entire program. Ask which legal insurer and product each proposal uses before comparing a Corix application with another carrier’s quote. 28 37 36 6
Contract Requirements and Retained Risk Need Different Work
Vouch offers reviews of insurance clauses in customer, lease and funding agreements. Heffernan discusses retained-risk arrangements, including larger deductibles and self-insurance strategies. A finance team may need both a contract-compliance review and a decision about losses it can fund itself. Ask each advisor to define those deliverables; neither a reviewed contract nor a lower premium shows how much uninsured exposure remains. 45 7 6
Allocate the Work Across Policies
Vouch describes coordinating renewals across carriers and providing claims advocacy. Heffernan describes claims consulting and digital program access. Request an account-level schedule for renewals, certificates and claim notices, especially if the program uses several insurers. A single broker can coordinate the work, but each policy retains its own reporting requirements and insurer decision process. 34 50 10 23
What to Confirm in Quotes
Obtain the carrier comparison, complete forms and California eligibility for your activities. Where Corix is proposed, identify the selected modules and endorsements instead of treating its public application as the whole policy. Ask both teams for the included contract-review and claims services, compensation and the effect of changing broker appointments. 41 28 12 1
Service Comparison
Heffernan vs Vouch: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Heffernan Insurance Brokers | Vouch |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Heffernan describes itself as an insurance broker and risk manager that shops markets, presents options, and places coverage with insurance carriers. It is not identified in the reviewed pages as the insurer that issues or pays claims on a buyer’s policy. Privacy language says it may share underwriting information with non-affiliated parties to solicit quotations from insurance carriers. 6,9,5,1 Public pages and a 26 August 2026 company release use the name Heffernan Insurance Brokers and display California license number 0564249. They identify F. Michael Heffernan as President and CEO. The reviewed official pages do not print a longer corporate legal name such as an “Inc.” suffix. Confirm the contracting producer name on the engagement agreement and policy. 1,24,2 Heffernan’s current site says it has been independent and employee-owned since 1988. A 2019 SkyKnight Capital announcement described a minority investment that recapitalized Heffernan’s ESOP while management said the firm would retain a culture of employee ownership. Current ownership percentages were not disclosed in the 2026 pages reviewed. 1,2,25 Heffernan Network Insurance Brokers is described as a wholly owned subsidiary, formerly OLI Insurance Services, that acquires or partners with independent agencies. Costero Brokers Ltd. appears as Heffernan’s London location listing. Heffernan Benefit Advisors is the name used on the employee-benefits page. These related names do not by themselves identify the producer or insurer on a California technology policy. 21,22,11,3 | Vouch’s current disclosure identifies Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC as the entity that brokers insurance. Vouch Group, Inc. is the group name used in that disclosure. The brokerage arranges policies with insurers; the insurer named on each policy takes on the covered risk. 28,34 Corix identifies Corix Insurance Services, LLC as the former Vouch Insurance Services, LLC. That is a different entity from Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC, the broker named on Vouch’s current site. 38,28,29 Hiscox announced an agreement in August 2025 to acquire Corix Insurance Services, LLC and Vouch Insurance Company, while Vouch would remain an independent broker with a multi-year Hiscox distribution agreement. Hiscox’s 2025 annual report records the Corix acquisition closing on August 11, 2025. 36,37 Corix’s January 2025 legal disclosure still describes it as part of Vouch, even though the same page now displays Hiscox branding. Hiscox’s later annual report records the acquisition. The older ownership paragraph should not be used to describe the current Vouch brokerage. 39,37 |
| Application process | The public commercial path starts with a Contact Us inquiry. The empty form inspected on 16 September 2026 asks for first and last name, email, optional phone, insurance needed, and a description of operations, plus a required choice among Need A Quote, Other, or Would like to speak with someone. Submitting the form does not display a premium or bind coverage. 12 Heffernan tells technology buyers to work with a specialized broker who assesses the business and gathers quotes from insurers. Its cyber team says it determines exposure, shops the market, presents options, and guides coverage selection. Quick Insure is a separate path that markets faster quotes for selected personal and short-term business products. The reviewed pages do not promise a universal quote or binding turnaround for a growth-stage technology program. 7,9,13,12 | Vouch’s public application starts with your legal business name, website, business address and location type, followed by your role and contact details. There is a separate sign-in path for an existing application or policy. 32 Vouch says its platform presents carrier options together, with differences in coverage, exclusions, endorsements and pricing explained by advisors. The reviewed pages do not promise a fixed number of quotes or a search of every insurer. 34 Vouch says many technology companies can arrange coverage within days, with smaller programs sometimes completed in minutes. Those are company timing claims. Its buying guide says coverage requires binding confirmation and the effective date, with underwriting and payment conditions satisfied. 33,35 |
| Access to insurers | Heffernan describes shopping multiple insurers rather than issuing policies itself. Named partners on reviewed pages include Thimble Insurance Services for short-term on-demand general liability and a third-party Propeller portal for some surety bonds. Transportation, healthcare, and marine-cargo pages refer to top, major, or exclusive carriers without naming them. Ask for the issuing insurer, admitted or surplus-lines status, and proposed forms on any quote. 9,17,18,16,14,1 | Corix’s disclosures name State National Insurance Company, Inc. for its admitted offerings and United Specialty Insurance Company for certain surplus-lines offerings. These are Corix program disclosures; they do not identify the insurer on every policy placed by Vouch. 39 Corix’s public management liability application names United Specialty Insurance Company. It offers directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary liability selections, with a warning about claims-made liability and defense costs reducing the limit unless endorsed otherwise. 53 |
| Coverage lines | The business-insurance page lists general liability, commercial property, commercial auto, workers’ compensation, and global/foreign exposures among basic coverages it can provide. Corporate and executive protection listed there includes employment-practices liability, directors and officers liability, fiduciary responsibility, cyber liability, and kidnap and ransom. The small-business page also lists errors and omissions and a business owner’s policy among coverages it can provide. 6,8 Specialty practices list additional products: builders risk for construction projects; marine cargo, logistics E&O, and surety bonds in the cargo program; trucking, final-mile delivery, motor truck cargo, and umbrella or excess in transportation; medical malpractice in healthcare; crime, fidelity/employee-dishonesty bonds, and hired/non-owned auto in the home-care program; and representations-and-warranties insurance in the private-equity and M&A practice. Employee benefits are offered separately through Heffernan Benefit Advisors, including group medical, dental, vision, life, and disability examples. 15,16,17,18,19,20,11 For buyers trying to control total cost of risk, Heffernan describes loss-sensitive and alternative arrangements including self-insurance, partial self-insurance, large deductibles, and captives. The technology page separately discusses self-insurance strategies for later-stage companies. These are options to evaluate in a proposal, not a standard policy form. 6,7,18 | Vouch lists technology errors and omissions, cyber liability, directors and officers, general liability, workers’ compensation, employment practices liability, key person, crime, product liability and umbrella coverage for technology companies. The list describes options, not a package that automatically includes every line. 33 A public Corix Cyber and E&O application names United Specialty Insurance Company and offers selectable cyber, errors and omissions, and media liability coverage. Its first page describes claims-made liability coverage and says defense costs reduce the available limit unless the policy is endorsed otherwise. 41 Corix’s other documented programs include management liability with directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary options, and a commercial package with general liability, property, hired and non-owned auto, and employee benefits liability options. 42,43 The reviewed Vouch pages and Corix materials did not establish a complete current policy form, endorsement set or insurer-by-product schedule for a new Vouch buyer. Ask for those documents with the proposal, especially when a quoted policy comes from a different insurer or program. 29,34,40,42,43,41,53 Corix’s cyber/E&O page describes system-failure business interruption and a form combining professional and technology E&O. It also warns that social engineering, AI activities and intellectual-property disputes can have conditions, sublimits or exclusions. 40 Corix’s management liability page describes an option to use defense counsel outside its panel, subject to conditions such as sharing costs. Crisis-management expenses have sublimits, and pre-claim assistance is an optional extension with its own terms. 42 |
| Claims assistance | Heffernan describes full-service claims consulting from intake through resolution, including workers’ compensation strategy, carrier liaison, and experience-mod analysis; 24/7 medical triage; and advocacy on general liability, auto, and property claims, including litigation support. The marine-cargo program separately describes a claims division with authority to adjust, settle, and issue payments on that program. These statements document claimed assistance. They do not establish that a claim will be paid or that reported speed or savings figures are independently verified. 10,16 | Vouch advertises claims advocacy at no cost to its clients, with a dedicated advocate and help communicating with insurers. It describes assisting with reporting, documentation and follow-up. The issuing insurer decides coverage and pays covered claims. 49,50 Vouch’s help center links to a claim request form asking about the incident, its location, estimated loss and supporting documents. Your policy’s notice instructions remain important: confirm the correct recipient, deadline and any separate cyber incident-response contact. 51,52,50 |
